There were 2 free kicks paid for high contact on Friday night that were worthy of Benny Gale's sooty-la-la tweetfest. One was a bad call paid to Jack and the other was paid to a * campaigner when he lowered his head and charged into Gibbo's chest. As for the kicks paid to Lindsay, I felt that the * dickheads were behaving in a defiant, almost childish manner in deliberately taking him high, then appealing to the umpire's sense of injustice - it was like, come on ump, this is Lindsay Thomas, we're supposed to get a free hit.

PS. There was a third high contact free kick paid when the umpire judged Ben Jacobs to have hit Goddard in the head. It didn't happen, as everyone knows, the only thing above Goddard's shoulders is a ****.

Agree for the most part. Most players have spent the last 2.5 years knowing that they can just take Thomas high and it won't be a free. He's adjusted his technique and they by and large have continued tackling incredibly recklessly.

There seems to be 2 arguments about Thomas winning all these free kicks.
1) that he is putting himself at risk by ducking...
He isn't though, he doesn't lower his head and drive it into oncoming players. He lowers his while body and remains upright. He is in danger of copping one round the chops, but absolutely not a spinal injury.

2) it's not in the spirit of the game...
Honestly anyone that pulls out this line can just **** off!!!!
The spirit of this game is about winning!!! You do what you can to win! Is tagging in the spirit of the game??? Was Silvagni playing in the spirit of the game when he scragged the **** out of anyone near him???? The world laud him as the best defender ever! Was Leigh Matthews playing in the spirit of the game when he assaulted Bruns??? Shit but isn't he considered to be the greatest (not by us) player ever! What about Judddddddy was he playing in the spirit of the game when he elbowed Pav? Eye Gouged someone (can't remember who right now) and ripped patch's arm off??? What about Hodgyyyyy was his hit to Swallows chin at a dead ball situation in the spirit of the game.
The spirit of the game is the biggest load of shit EVER!!!! In every game all over the world every player is looking for an edge, an advantage within the rules to win. Soccer, NFL, Basketball, Rugby League, Union, GAA, Baseball, Hockey all have wonderful exponents of players that are smart enough to put themselves in positions where they win free kicks or penalties to help their team win!
LT is as hard as anyone on our team, he attacks the ball and opposition with ferocity. I would not trade him in for any small forward in the comp.... And the boos and vitriol from opposition fans, players and commentators tastes lovely!!! Our own fans should however have a good hard look at themselves if they choose to have a crack at LT...
In short he is a Star!!!!
Top post.

It really irks me that Lindsay will never get the credit outside the club that he deserves.
Honestly I don't think Lindsay gives one single f*** what anyone outside the club thinks about him.

He loves us though. Loves us. Bleeds Blue and White.
It irks me that he isn't rated more highly by the wider football public. He's phenomenal in my opinion. I think his comments about not wanting to be remembered a certain way show that he too wants to be known for his football exploits, not diving. (Not that this is, but I'm sure he'd rather be acknowledged for the exceptional player he is).

And, even if he doesn't, I do.

He does some sublime things on the football field, but he is only known for drawing high contact and having the yips 3 4 seasons ago. I mean FFS, he missed 2 consecutive set shots by a bees dick, and apparently the yips are back .
See, even you have fallen for it. Four years ago, ffs!!! I swear it was as if they were trying to talk him back into having the yips. I've been banging on about this for a while, but honestly, it not only reared its head again on Friday night, but came back worse than ever. I want to throttle someone.

Last night he was baulking blokes, hitting our forwards on the tit and winning contested ball inside 50. Would love to see those things highlighted for a change.
Precisely. If it was Selwood, Fyfe, Bontempelli etc. they'd be creaming themselves. Shits me.

Leigh Matthews and Nick Maxwell just defended Thomas on game day. Good, smart play - linked it to Selwood and Pendlebury. Doesn't duck, drops the knees and places the onus on the tackler to have the correct technique.

He's my favourite player at the club, and I spent a magnificent Friday night in coastal victoria watching the game with mates who were frothing over their hate of Thomas. Couldn't get the grin off my face.

The media darlings have their own set of standards.

Two weeks in a row now Lindsay has rotated through the middle and immediately won us clearances. This needs to be recognised (I'm sure it already has) and used when we need a spark out of the centre square. Best nose for the football/feel for the game at the club

With clean possession his kicking into f50 is as good as Boomer in his hey day. Dead set gun.

Good to see he's got some support in the media. I would dispute that the two frees he got for high tackles on Friday were anything more than standard 'round the necks', not a hint of ducking involved or even dropping the knees for that matter.

Reads the ball well off the hand and is always on his toes or on the move. Natural at the stoppages.

Correct! It's very unlikely he would sustain a serious injury the way he goes about it, Friday night i couldn't see much wrong with what he did at all.
20 years ago, my own career came to an abrupt end after going low to pick up a ball only to get collected by a hip flush on the head. This is what i am told as i don't remember the contact. For a short time, probably 5-10 minutes after regaining consciousness i had an idea of what being a quadriplegic might be like (no feeling at all). Unlike so many unfortunate others i got lucky, a fractured neck and permanent nerve damage. It's this particular ducking that i really hate, as it has the real chance to permanently injure and even kill someone. What thomas is doing is tame in comparison

I've changed my thinking on this, mainly through being nvolved in junior footy - and it's nothing to do with safety. Teaching kids the game has highlighted to me how much the rules favour attack. It's not about a fair contest between bat and ball - it's 20-20. If you have the ball, or are trying to get the ball, the rules will back you - if you are trying to stop an opponent who has the ball, or stop them getting the ball, the rules will strictly limit your options. It is the essence of the game that the ball player is protected. As long as LT, or Selwood, or Shuey, or anyone else has the ball in their hands, they are on the side of the angels.

(Which, btw, is why the diving on the ball rule and the sliding into legs rules such are a crock - they are genuinely against the spirit of the game because they penalise the attacking player.)

What was surprising was that the umpire didn't pay a 50m penalty for abuse etc against melksham after he infringed

Yep… spot on. Here's a meme I've pitched to my * loving relatives who are having a sooky-sooky-la-la about the reckless tackling technique of #17..

WhoLashOut_zps45rkeo1l.jpg

Also as you can see in this 'incriminating still' that the * player is in the WRONG. But the delusional folk from Mork n' Mindy Hill -- will tell you that LT ducked and they're innocent of the supplements scandal.. that's why WADA is now investigating. :D Essendenial is what I call them.

Lindsay gets extra browny points for irritating *supporters so much, if only he nailed all his shots at goal, it would have been a perfect storm
100% - these flogs clapped Lloyds diving free kicks yet lose their mind when LT gets a legitimate free. Lloyd cheated - Lt is getting correct decisions. Idiots.

Melksham's was the worst ironically, I don't see how he can feel aggrieved. His attempt at a tackle had almost no chance of not giving away a free kick... to be honest of the 3 (I think) Thomas got I thought only one of them was dancing along the edges of the rule. The other 2 were just plain reckless.

So the umps come out and say they are going to watch for duckers "L.T"..

And all Talking Footy spoke of the North vs * game was L.T free kicks!

They can all GAGF...

What did Duck have to say about the Kangaroos player?

Anywho, nothing will beat his dumb arse comment last weekend that kicking is one area of the game that hasn't improved in 100 years such is the respect I have for his 'special comments.'

Kicking for goal.
