Situation no win!

Congratulations on the courage of your convictions Jonesy. If more individuals were willing to sacrifice so much on/for a principle this planet would be a better place. Those begrudging your decision, with a selfish outlook should think about the fact you have probably given up a million dollars and the chance of the ultimate reward for a footballer.

Like everyone else, I don’t know the full details of your stand and ultimate sacrifice so will not judge your decision. I simply respect and admire your courage to make an almost impossible choice.

I am sad you will not have the opportunity to meet and speak with your mates, your second family to discuss or explain your stance. I am certain your brothers in arms will respect your decision and miss you profoundly. I hope they gain some motivation from your example. It would have been a far easier decision to compromise your beliefs to appease the masses.

Thank you for the service Liam. Congratulations on the well documented high regard you are held in by your team mates. It is a testament to your character. The very best of wishes to you for your future and trust you will be warmly welcomed back in the inner sanctum of our club when circumstances allow.

Just heard Brad Lloyd on SEN, he was fumbling and mumbling through the whole interview.. Did not do himself any favors with the way he spoke.. But sounds like they have known for a while this was inevitable and that he is going to receive a pay out, might not be the full extent of his contract but there is a settlement, also alluded to that the AFL might be footing the bill and wont be included in our salary cap.

Am not going to get into the whole “vax / anti-vax” debate - after facing a delisting Liam Jones turned his career around and became an excellent defender.

Best of luck to Liam moving forward

Not great public speaker/media performer is Brad. Everytime he is rolled out he tends to come across like that. He doesn't fill the listening masses with much confidence.

I am surprised he is going to receive a pay out.

“Forced” out by a change in policy. Not unreasonable expectation, the playing field has changed. There would be legal action if a payout was not provided, and rightly so. It is no sin, let alone crime to be true to yourself.

I am surprised he is going to receive a pay out.

Gary Lyon made the point that he signed a contract that didnt have a clause around vaccination, it was Carlton/AFL that changed the conditions of this contract and if challenged could open a legal Pandora's box that the AFL would not want to go down.

Any agreed pay out will be outside the cap I'd imagine due to the outstanding circumstances.
Don't see there being any additional compensation (nor believe there should be) outside of an additional draft pick after our last.

Tim Watson 'I don’t really respect his decision because there’s no underlying medical issues here'

First, no one really knows Liam's reasons as he chooses not to speak about it. That is his right and entitlement. Second, without getting conspiracy theory-ish, no one definitively knows what the long term impact of the vaccines might be - it's just believed that it is less problematic than the present. Third, how can you question a person's decision NOT to be jabbed after what happened at Essendon? Different circumstances, I know, but the commentary really gets my goat from Tim 'Essendon Cheerleader' Watson.

How ironic that Tim Watson does not respect Liam's right to make a choice and refuse a jab. If his footy club had some players with backbone who questioned the status quo, they would not have had the drugs crisis. I can't believe he made that comment. Whether you agree or disagree with the reasons, Liam is entitled to his choice. There is something to admire about his decision to not embrace the global view. People will disagree with that and that is fine. I'm not making an anti-vaccine stance and I believe in the need to get vaccinated. I also respect the right of others to not do it. Tim has no appreciation of irony and no introspection to realise the stupidity of his comments...

There was no law mandating professional athletes be double vaccinated either.

His decision will set back our defense next year.

Anyhow while I disagree with what he’s done and potentially why I’ll admit it takes character to give up your career and a steady stream of decent money for your principles.

Obviously it's an untested area because it's new
But his contract wasn't changed.
The AFL rules changed.
Contracts probably have clauses about all AFL rules apply etc.

it's a bit different, 7.5 BILLION people have now had at least one covid-19 vaccine, given under controlled, open circumstances.

the essendon thing was done in secret, by a non-medical professional and apparently with no records of who took what and when.
