My take on it is this, the top 10-12 players seemed like a given. The next 20 were rated as very even before the talent pool dropped away. Someone in the 20 had to slip through to 30, Dumont was the one.

I don't think there is a reason, just like when JZ slipped to number 9.

As always, thanks MrB.

The fancied chances usually go early I agree. I think TPA also nailed it though, so much "testing" without actually watching how they play. I like his highlights for sure.

Still, it was a big drop and if we didn't grab him where would have fallen?! (for a top 15 pick apparently)

looks good in that video, clean hands, good positioning and decision making in disposal, and tough.

If we look at the 20-30 picks I reckon he slid because clubs had specific needs and went for them. St.Kilda preferred his 'clone' at 18 (Dunstan) and then didn't need his type at 19, and some zippy smalls went in the 20s (Impey, Taylor, Hartung, Merrett). Brisbane took Aish early and then wanted talls (2 in twenties), and GWS needed a ruckman (29). We got lucky, I hope

Thanks I'Roo. It may be your break-down is spot-on as to why he slid.

I hope we got lucky too, sounds like we have at this stage for sure :thumbsu:

I know that that crows rated dumont higher than dunstan and would have taken him if crouch was gone

Did hear that Saints were keeeeeen on Dumont and tried to go the trifecta by talking down Dumont to other recruiters in an effort to secure him with their next pick.. anyone think this has Pelchen written all over it? Well it gets better. Pelchen walked past our table after we took him and was apparently absolutely ropable :)

Saints only had 3 picks. All before 30.

Pelchen is a complete tosser.

Unless I post it...then its 'negativity', 'blasphemous' or against all sense and reason...apparently:rolleyes:

Wow, that's really unfair. I have absolutely no idea why people would marginalise you in that way.

Particularly when you're clearly doing your utmost to contribute to intelligent discussion around here....

Vote 1 now for most pointless thread of the year:thumbsu:

Keep reaching for that brass ring, dude.

The decision of Dal Santo vs Dumont in my opinion depends whether you think in one of two ways.

a) Our best chance of a premiership is with Wells, Petrie, Harvey, Dal Santo, Thompson and Swallow in 2014-2017

b) Our best chance of a premiership is when we go into 2018-2023 with a core midfield of Ziebell, Cunnington, Bastinac, Atley, McDonald, Mullett, Garner, McKenzie, Harper and Dumont delivering it to Aaron Black and Brown and Daw

Fixed again!

I was thinking the same thing. Well done to our list management. They've opened us a premiership window now, and another one during GC/GWS dominance period if we continue to recruit well.

Reminds me a bit of basti. Good in tight and can find it on the spread as he is a good runner. Pretty happy with this pick up

And quite a few of the draft profiles said he had no outside spread or skills. Saw him link up from the back line and at the fall of the ball in the forward line a few times.

Weaknesses: lacks the hurt factor, no outside capabilities
