Nominated for the AFL MVP.

This bloke, under a different coach, might have been cleaning out his locker at seasons end.

A testament to himself to become one of first magnets picked each week and a testament to Rutten and co that they are building a system where players are flourishing.

Amazing turnaround.

Yep voted by the players as most courageous and top 3 MVP (alongside Merrett and Parish).

Will go to a vote for the whole league next, but I reckon that's a pretty nice feather in his cap and if I'm in his shoes I'd be using that when you go to negotiate a new contract. Trigger clause be damned.

Club hasn't commented but for the purposes of the sticky post, contracts thread and spreadsheets etc. I think we have to assume he has triggered the contract extension for 2022 and will re-sign at some point next year.

He will qualify for free agency next year, presumably unrestricted as I don't think his contract extension would be in the top ~11 salaries at the club.

Essendon’s Jayden Laverde’s reward for his exceptional season as a new-found defender was his nomination by his teammates as one of three Bombers eligible for the AFL MVP.

He will stay at Essendon after ticking off a trigger clause with his performances this year, but at this stage won’t sign a new deal until some time next year.

AFL website trade rumours from yesterday also suggests that only Gleeson and Clarke are left out of contract now, which supports the idea. Media knows but us plebs don't even get a courtesy email 🙄

FYI Duckworth if that works for you?

Watching him this year I have to say I have never been so pleased to be wrong. I knew he could play. I just could not see him getting past the injuries.
