Thanks OX.

The stats you provided here support my theory.

You look at our most consistant performers and they are in the 100-200 game bracket.

In two years time most of the guys at 50 games will be getting up to 100 games, and reaching their best football years, whilst we will still be getting good service from Harvey, Grant, Simpson, maybe Colbert.

Just hope we can keep the group together, and that our KPP's like Petrie, Brown and Hale continue to improve.

Simmo will be playing his 200th game against St. Kilda. Do they chair off players even if the team loses?

I love Jess Sinclair #9

WTF..!!!!???

yeh they do.
They will be cheering Simmo off, when St.Kilda loses

Interesting if the AFL schedule Stevo's 300th next year (if everything goes accordingly) against the Saints also around mid-season say ;) to co-inside with Stevo's first game...played vs StK
1989 (at VFL Park) wore #46 on debut IIRC.

Centurion Brown happy with spare parts role

Leigh Brown will play his 100th game aged just 22, but for the time being at least, he is content to be used all over the ground rather than develop a set role in the Kangaroos team.

In what is a fitting bit of symmetry, Brown will achieve his milestone at Perth's Subiaco Oval, the ground where he débuted for Fremantle in 2000, the same year as young stars Matthew Pavlich and Paul Hasleby.

Brown has missed just three matches since, but unlike his former teammates, who have received considerably more kudos, the born and bred Gippsland boy has moved home and established himself at another club.

While the more mobile Pavlich, who has played 98 matches, and Hasleby, who notched his 100th last weekend, have earned All-Australian honours for their talents, Brown is still a developing key-position player, most recently in attack.

"I guess trying to find that consistency in having an impact on games. It's something that has probably taken a while and it's only just starting to happen now, although there's still a lot of improvement in that area to come hopefully," he said at Arden Street on Tuesday.

Brown rates this season, which shapes to be his best statistically, as his most successful to date. But he concedes that the changing nature of his on-field role has presented on-going challenges.

Ideally, Brown says, he would like to develop into a regular centre half-back. But with Leigh Colbert performing so well in that position and Saverio Rocca spending most of last season languishing in the VFL, Brown has been used predominately as a forward by his fourth coach, Dean Laidley.

He is far from complaining though. And after initially struggling with being used in multiple positions, Brown now views it as a challenge that can enhance his football. He is especially enjoying playing alongside veteran forward Rocca, who has hit vintage form in past weeks.

"I think it keeps your mind fresh. And if you can overcome that with your mind it's going to be good for my footy I think."

"I've started to do that and I think I've got a bit mentally stronger over the last 12 months with that role, so hopefully I can continue on and become more consistent again," he said.

"I've been playing different positions week in week out, and even during games. But I've been able to have an impact, which has probably been the most pleasing thing."

"I've accepted it for the minute and I'm more than happy with that role."

Brown remains more than just a keen observer of the Dockers and catches up with his old mates when their relative schedules permit. But although he will take to Subiaco Oval as an adversary this Saturday night, the familiarity will be strangely exciting.

"It’s a bit ironic I think. I think it's going to be fantastic, I'm really looking forward to it. I guess the only thing that would have been better is if I got to share it with Paul Hasleby and Matty Pavlich," Brown said.

"Obviously we got to the club at the same time at Fremantle and we've shared a lot of bad times and good times together as well. It would have been fantastic to share it with those guys."

Would like to hear from people who were at Subi on Sat night about what they thought of the Anvil's game.

Seemed to find a bit more of the ball the longer each half went.

What was his work rate like behind the play???

Any thoughts???

I think he is really important to our sides run to the finals.

Not one of his better games, but serviceable.

I reckon he was distracted in the lead up to the game - being a milestone and his 100th and returning to his former club.

I'd expect him to play a blinder this week.

Was waiting but nobody seems to have commented on it... Just wanted to say. How good was Browny's tackle in the first few minutes of the game last week. Great to see that sort of intensity. His hardness has been one of the best things to come out of this year. Good to have a player that can put the fear into some opposition teams... :D

It set the tone for the rest of the match. You could tell in the first five minutes we were switched on, because our tackling and attack on the man was ferocious, which wasn't there against Carlton.

And then when Mr Frustrated Nick Holland pushed Colby when he was on the ground injured it was great to see Browny stick up for him and tell Holland who's boss, the North way we don't take no S@#t

The boys really played for one another.

That was really low class by Holland - having a go at the injured Colbert who couldn't get up. Glad Brown came over to stand up for him.

We must be cursed when it comes to the heritage round! Its the same situation as the last year the heritage round mucked up our chances for the finals! on another note Browny has played a great season. He seems to have a bigger role in the senior team this year because of his flexibilty to play all around the ground. What are your thoughts on Browny?

I think his best footy has been played in the backline (besides round one), and it has shocked me that a few people have called for his head this weekend. Leroy's was huge for us up until the split round and hasn't been that bad since, surely he deserves a bit more respect than that.

I was very surprised that Laidley didn't throw Leroy into the ruck in the game* against the Cows, he does do well in the ruck and works well around the ground when playing there.

*if you call the absurdity which was dished up to the footy public on Friday a game!!!

I am still a fan of using Leroy forward. If there was Sav, Drew and Leroy up forward it would be interesting to see how they would be matched up. As Sav is the logical FF that means that Drew or Leroy should get the third tall defender.
You could have Turtle and Shagga playing forward as well. That leaves Junior to do what he does. It is rare that Junior does not take the mark (or at least make a good contest) when he is on the lead and one out.

Very crucial player to our team. Who called for his head this weekend ?? Pfffft !!

Still feel that JYD should keep him in one spot > CHB or CHF so we have an anchor KKP (no puns intended).

Hopefully he can bounce back vs the Swannies.

i absoulutly love him, but i think that if he stayed in the one spot he would be even better than he is now.

His best footy was at CHB where he could read the play and provide a lot of run. With Watt holding down FB now, we can build our backline around these guys.

It's handy that he can play multiple positions, but I don't agree with it in terms of building a team for the long term. Let him settle at CHB........please!
