We're a system side. And our smalls provide the pressure that makes it work. Repeat efforts and being in the right place at the right time mean that we have lower stats, but win games. It's how well they make the system work that matters, not individual stats.

Who's gunna come in?

Aarts is rubbish

Maybe a Dow or rcd can play fwd

We traded Butler. Lloyd. Stengle etc.
If Dow impresses again in our next scratch match, hed be worth a go. Dow has a big motor and doesn't need a heap of possession to match Rioli's output. Even throw someone like Edwards forward and bring in Naish to play wing.

There is definitely something wrong with the way our small forwards have been kept at bay the last two matches. Remember they all had decent years last year, Rioli, Castagna, Bolton, and kicked 9 between them round one.

Not sure what the answer is here but something needs to change, the wingers and small forwards just cannot get into the game properly. There will be changes next week, but there is no doubt this bloke can play. Last week everyone wants rid of Stack and we saw tonight returned to a more suitable role for him he got better as the match went on and looked well at home. Rioli to me seems to have been pushed way away from goals, probably to accomodate others. And it is starting to look like he is a bit lost in that role. But it may not be the issue is with him. He seems to be getitng into very congested areas a lot where our wingers are being carved up.

Next week selection will be very interesting, you don’t want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, the selectors need to identify where the breakdown is happening and fix it.

I could see Rioli being given a rest now as a realistic possibility, but it is not a certainty.

couldnt care less how many disposals he has if he is at least bringing the heat in the fwd line. but hes not doing that at the moment either. needs a kick up the arse but not sure he gets dropped. who would come in for him?

Plenty of options. Last week we played 5 small forwards, this week four with Stack going back. We can easily bring in more running power on the wings in the form of McIntosh or an extra midfielder or a tall at either end of the ground. We don't need what Rioli offers when in form let alone when he is doing his houdini act.

Yeah, we are too small

Baker will come back in too eventually

The team of short people probably won't work with short games

This is a player who struggled to stay involved or show consistency in games during his draft year. His career is littered with matches where he has made little to no impact.

It’s a big waste of time to throw up excuses for him. This isn’t Dustin Martin having a game where he didn’t touch it. This is a guy who has a history of being invisible. This isn’t out of the ordinary.

He played was dropped last year for poor form, and my guess is he’ll be dropped again next week.

Was dropped and did **** all in the VFL and was selected for dream time.

My early selection thoughts are:

In Martin, Nankervis(or other second ruck option) MacIntosh, maybe Baker

Out: Graham, Ross, Rioli maybe Prestia injured.

The odds of that being precisely correct are a million to one but Hardwick said after the match they need to look to change things. We needed an extra tall to send forward tonight they had us cut off there too easily. The good thing is thre is a load of guys who should be putting their best foot forward at training and with their preparation.

I am wondering also if things may be breaking down structurally a little with Pickett, though I am not basing that on anything solid just that he is the least familiar with the structures. Jack Graham seems to be getting carved up badly so he will need to be left out I would have thought. Shocked if less than 3 changes and could be as many as 5 or 6 depending on a few things.

From our armchairs it is so difficult to see exactly where things are breaking down.

I forgotten MacIntosh existed
