That's pretty much what I asked myself.
It seems a pick in hope of bloodlines and family traits as opposed to hard evidence.

Yes your quite right, the staff are full time employed to research this stuff to the enth degree but I do wonder.....

Cyril has translated that into AFL form, yet with an equally impressive junior highlight reel, people just assume that Daniel doesn't have a chance of doing something similar?

Hmmm.... :drunk:

He hasn't done enough on field to prove he's worthy of a top 15 draft pick but I'm okay with that we're desperate for a quality small forward so he fills what I feel is our biggest need, I would have preferred Ah Chee or Milera but that's a stupid comment because they weren't available out or pick so now that the draft is over they're now irrelevant to us. He's the risk we just had to take.

The physical attributes are there, he proved that at the combine. He has the pedigree, you can just see the talent he has by watching his highlights, the potential is there. He just hasn't shown it enough of it. He has more potential than 90% of the draft class, the base is there. Development is absolutely vital for Daniel, we have to give him as much time as he needs and us fans need to understand he's not going to make an impact straight away.

Normally I have an expectation for all of our draft picks, especially our first rounders but I'm honestly not sure what to expect from Rioli, man I hope he becomes absolute class though!!!

Haven't seen his highlights. Haven't done any research on him. Haven't done any research on any of the potential draftees. People get paid to do that.

Am extremely pumped that we have another Rioli on our list. Extremely! Here's our 2016 X-Factor!

Did I mention I was pumped! :)

Early call by Kb but on the money :D

Geez there's some stupid campaigners that post here. Seriously. Great pick and exactly what we needed. I am stoked on this pick. A Rioli back at Richmond. Fantastic.

I have no idea about this kid, tomorrow i will sit down and go through the vids on the rfc site and then wait till feb to see him and the other recruits in action in NAB 1 in perth v freo. Really can't beleive people lose their shit over who we selected or didn't select FFS, but as usual there will be some posters who in 2/3 years will accuse the club of not selecting a player at another club.

Welcome Daniel Rioli, hoping you have a long career at the tigers and that goes for all recruits who come to our club.

The kid is good. To all those no talent, delusional, mouth breathers who think they actually know anything about AFL recruiting by splittin their time spanking it to beastiality pr0n on redtube & then posting on this site can GAGF

How many games will this campaigner play in 2016?
With the sub gone in 2016 probably not as many if he had of been picked up last year.
When we pick a team that needs extra speed he'll be competing wit the likes of Menadue, Drummond and perhaps Butler so depends a bit where they see him in the pecking order. Preseason form will give a better indication.
I would be stoked if he played 6 or more games.

0 imo

look how skinny he is

The ONLY way that Daniel Rioli doesn't debut in 2016, is if he gets does an ACL during the pre-season.

Literally, that is the only actual way that he won't play at least 1 game next year.

This was Cyril in his first year, after a pre-season mind you:

This is Daniel now:

There isn't a huge difference.

Like... at all. :thumbsu:

Cyril played 22 and won a gf in his first year

I can say that I am super excited about this pick. Yes, a lot of my excitement is probably derived from his last name but it is also based on the idea of having a speedy small forward who has a bit of X - Factor about him on our list. I wish Daniel 'Delicious 2.0' Rioli all the very best and very much hope he plays 200+ games in the 'Yellow and Black'.

From the draft edition of Inside Football...

North Ballarat Rebels - DOB 16/4/97 - Height 180cm - Weight 69Kg
"He's been inconsistent with his form- he's just got to learn how to play a more consistent game, but the development of Daniel over the last year has been really good. A boy that didn't play for St Patrick's College last year in the first 18, just playing local football at East Point Football Club, to really work when he got his opportunity, he came in and made himself an elite runner, elite speed. He's really worked hard on his game and you'll see the rewards from doing that. In the later part of the year he put his name on the map a bit more and I expect him to go a lot higher than we thought two months ago." - North Ballarat Rebels talent manager Phil Partington

Combine highlights...
4th best in Relative vertical jump - 69cm
4th best in 20M Springs - 2.89sec
1st in 30M Repeat sprints - 24.15sec
7th best in 3Km Time Trial - 10min9sec
4th best in Clean hands drill (Max 30) - 27

That's my point.

You have no idea how our Rioli is going to go, but for some reason, you choose to go ultra negative, whilst most on here are pretty excited about his potential in future seasons.

Whilst I'm certainly not saying that he's going to emulate Cyril's debut year, not even close in-fact, I ALSO think it's ridiculous to say that he won't even debut at all simply because he's "too skinny", especially when you could have labeled Cyril with those same criticism's prior to the start of his career.
