Okay you got me :)
I agree with your original point though. I guess the argument others are making is that a garnish which hasn't been proven isn't worth a first round pick.

Can you imagine an exotic expensive reduction on the side of the dish, that actually you don't really want and so you scrape it off for the most part?
I too hope he is the perfect compliment to the plate though. Delicious.

I really think our window is open and players like yarran and Daniel are now what we need also another good ruck man and perhaps snag a genuine A grade midfield would help but for the best part of it we are on the cusp and s few flashy players are just what we need, a little caviar to top us off....

Those that want to will always find a way.

All I'm saying is, at least wait until NAB Cup before creaming yourselves over him just because his great uncle starred for us 30 years ago.

I'm not excited because of Maurice.

I'm 25 years old, unfortunately I have no real connection with that era of Richmond.

I'm excited because of the potential I see for Daniel Rioli based on Daniel Rioli, not on Maurice.

I think we've drafted the next superstar small forward of the competition, to be perfectly honest. Feel free to bookmark this post as well, but I genuinely think Daniel Rioli is going to be a superstar.

He has Cyril 2.0 written all over him.

Cyril has translated that into AFL form, yet with an equally impressive junior highlight reel, people just assume that Daniel doesn't have a chance of doing something similar?

Hmmm.... :drunk:

One is Cyril "Junior" Rioli, from Melville Island in the Tiwi group, nephew of Norm Smith medallists Maurice Rioli and Michael Long. Left-footed Rioli, 15, a year 10 student, has distinguished himself in the first 18 this season, kicking 10 goals one day against Carey Grammar and eight against Caulfield Grammar.

Stop with the Cyril comparisons.

I'll defer to those who watch the draftees more than me to whether it was a good pick at 15, but he certainly fills a need and sounds like a great young man. All the best to him.

In an apparent shallow draft year we took a risk on a big name with massive upside. I didn't really like his highlights video either but am happy with the pick. Welcome Mr Rioli!

Can't work out what some people aren't liking about his highlights reel? Leads well, good hands, goals from a number of angles and distances, hits up targets under pressure, work in traffic looks fantastic, great below his knees. It's junior football but still he looks very good.

Speculative pick. Not unhappy. Not happy. Our pick was about where the top end talent dropped off. We got the most talent we could. Hmmm. Hope he comes on. Lots of development this year's crop

Has limited exposed form and unlike some I don't believe the specialised small forward position is gaining importance .
Has no inside game at all , in fact very little exposed form in contested footy and I will be very interested how his game stands up with the additional defensive pressure of VFL and AFL. Hope it works out and he not only comes on but comes on but is up to playing consistent AFL by 2017 at the latest or it might be bye bye to few recruiters .

Cant not like that highlights reel, it's one of the best i've seen, I played it 4 or 5 times lat night.

Wrong! Can win his own ball...
From the Richmond recruiters "Rioli displays an ability to win 50/50 balls, and his average of 10 disposals per game at the National Championships comprised an average of 10 contested possessions per game"

I think what's most impressive is that he has come from nowhere so quickly. He only started concentrating on his footy in the last two years. The improvement trajectory is ridiculously steep. It makes you think that in the right environment his upside is ridiculously high. So his future inside and outside game cannot be judged from past vids maybe as much as others. He has one huge advantage in that his genes give him a platform to build on that precious few have. Yes, he is a speculative pick, but at this point we need to take risks to leapfrog those sides in front of us and around us. Picking more safely probably wouldn't do that.

Someone at Richmond needs to edit that as I'm pretty sure he averaged 12 touches at champs and 10 were contested.

I take some confidence that Hawthorn were into Rioli. Their recruiter I rate unlike F.Jackson.
To be fair, FJ is now only part of a team. Yes he still is the head honcho but decisions are discussed with Luke Williams, Blair Hartley and several others.
