If we get back EVW then we will have three guys who are genuinely capable one-on-one defenders:

Tall: Tarrant
Medium/tall: EVW
Small: Marley

If Wright gets fit over the summer then you can maybe add him to that list.

So my question is, can Jasper actually defend one-on-one? Or will the team be at the mercy of depending on the midfield to slow down opposition ball movement again, just like the last two seasons?

Anyway I applaud the club for bringing in players in that mid-20s age range. Says to me they are serious about a crack at a flag.

The whole 'internal/organic development' thing is a smokescreen for lazy match committees to perpetually fail. Enough.

Can he actually defend? 1on1 and at ground level?

Not well. His game is run and gun but he’s been hampered by hamstring injuries the last couple of years. Turnover king, will drive you nuts, especially when down on confidence.

At his best he was a very good player, the question is whether we’ll ever see it again.

Good luck.

when i think of Jasper i im always reminded of these song lyrics

"You're always brilliant in the morning,
Smoking your cigarettes and talking over coffee
Your philosophies on art, Baroque moved you
You loved Mozart and you'd speak of your loved ones
As I clumsily strummed my guitar"

in time you'll understand

Anyone thinking that Jasper Pittard is purely a depth player on our list needs to have a spell until the Bye in 2019.

Genuine line breaker who has dulled under Ken Hinkley like many other Port players since 2016. No doubt in my mind he will flourish under Brad Scott like Higgins, Waite and Jed Anderson.

With a history of hamstring issues, hopefully won’t take as long to flourish as Anderson.

Interesting pick up. Willing to give him a chance before needlessly writing him off.

Most interesting part will be whether Ziebull sticks on J.MacMillan or switches to J.McMillan.

Good trade for you. At best you get a guy who can break lines and get the ball out of the back quickly. Decent intercept too. At worst you get a great whipping boy, but he was traded in for a pack of crisps, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Way I'm going to look at it, is its a direct swap for Clarke on the list.

Clarke couldn't defend 1 on 1 (as he wasn't a defender ffs) and would turn it over where he got it, often due to being sold into trouble.

Pittard can't really defend 1 on 1 (despite being a defender) but has some dash and will instead turn it over 50m up the field, which is better for scoring opportunities... I guess.
