A lot of people mock the Richmond Man thing perhaps because they don't get it, but this guy truly personifies what it is to be a Richmond Man, humble, self sacrificing and brilliant all on one.

Thanks for a great career Grimsey. Rest easy son knowing you gave it your all right to the end.

Dylan has always been a rock down back. One of the few players that could shut down a player like Charlie Cameron and then be equally strong against someone such as Jeremy Cameron. He was deceptively strong, fast and agile. When we were terrified of what we would do when Rance went down at the start of 2019, it was Grimes who stood up and became that interceptor general.

We would never have won the three flags without Astbury, Flossy and Grimes working together to nullify and rebound out of defense. They were the foundation the team launched from.

Enjoy the times working on your winery Grimesy! If Dusty's retirement was the full stop on the era then Grimesy is the exclamation mark.

What a career. Grimes was a massive point of difference in our defence. He could basically defend anyone that was a danger or was left over after other matchups. Great speed, courage and team first(team only) commitment.

It is laughable he only got one AA selection. He would make any defensive unit work better at any time in history. Just simply destroyed players as dangerous as Charlie & Jeremy Cameron and Dangerfield and Toby Greene in multiple finals, it would have given opposition coaches the absolute shits having that happening at one end and Dusty at least equally destroying their best stoppers at the other end of the ground. One guy was reducing their score for 2-3 goals at one end of the ground and the other was increasing our score by as much or more at the other end of the ground.

I always thought Rance and particularly Grimes were a big reason we were able to flood our forward line in our dynasty years and leave these guys one out behind the ball knowing they would almost never be beaten to loose balls on the way back to goal.

You would absolutely love another Dylan Grimes amongst our impending big draft hauls. Superb defender.

Well done on a remarkable career Dylan and we all knew from your first game for Coburg you would be a champion defender. No player could read the play better than you in the air as you had the eyes of a Hawk, the closing speed of a cat on a mouse and the balance of a gymnast. Enjoy your new life and hope to meet you at the winery with my princess over Summer.
Thanks for the memories.

Go back and watch his first quarter in the 2019 Qualifying Final. Was basically a one man backline while locking up Charlie Cameron.

Takes a pretty special player to be able to towel up Jeremy Cameron snd Eddie Betts.

Grimes in his prime best one on one defender in the competition

2019 Dylan Grimes was unbeatable.

Truly underrated.
Farewell Grimesy

Legend has it that Charlie Cameron is still hidden in his back pocket.

Thanks Grimesy! One of the best modern day 1on1 defenders who was an integral part of 3 premiership winning defences. Go enjoy those freezing cold Macedon Ranges mornings.
