which local club will Stephenson go play for?
or will he go the VFL Route.
25 is too young to retire from AFL.
but he has issues.
Wouldnt surprise me if he ended up being on someones list after the mid season draft.

Better for North footy club to pay him out rather than have him around.
They should have done the same for Tarryn Thomas sooner as well.

He has retired, so he has to sit out from the AFL for at least 12 months. This came about after Mal Michael and a club cooked up some dodgy deal years back.

Another failed import in long line of failed imports over the last five years.

Depressing stuff.

Hope he finds something he enjoys doing.
It's typical rainy day modern north that:

The old guy we shipped off won a flag

The 20yo grand finalist rising star we got in fizzled and spun off around the room like a deflating balloon before landing limply on the floor

NMFC and failed ex-first round pick imports.

An iconic duo.

Eastern suburbs boy - Ferntree Gully - so will probably bob up in the EFNL. Ferntree Gully are Division 3 battlers and he'd probably want to play Premier. Kayne Turner and Josh Walker are at Balwyn who have a ton of money. Their coach, Brenton Sanderson, was also at Collingwood when Sleevo was there.

Will not be surprised to see him picked up and thrive somewhere else.

He was always the icing, and we have sucked for his entire tenure.

Give him a defined role with good players and he will be back in the game.
Probably announced it after the trade period as he was probably hoping to get traded but obviously no one was interested

A team of players made up of players from other clubs to play for North - 2017-2024
B: Pittard, Logue, Williams
HB: Shiels, Corr, Hall
C: Polec, Stephenson, Stephens
HF: Fisher, Walker, Tucker
F: Hartung, Teakle, Bonar
Foll: Coleman-Jones, Greenwood, Hrovat
Int: Young, Tyson, Howe, Menadue
Emer: Nyuon, Campbell, Bosenavulagi

So this is it from the start of Brad's "Aggressive Reset". All 25 players who played senior AFL games elsewhere before coming to play more at North are represented. I've tried to pick the best possible team (I'm sure others could do better) but nevertheless I think this team could be called "The North Melbourne Shittrucks"

The centre line wouldn't win a hard ball get for a season. The back line isn't terrible. Everything else is pretty awful.

Kane reckons things would've been different if he was traded to Geelong. Conveniently forgetting Nathan Ablett.
He was sent back to the 2s several times and basically told to shape up or ship out, so it's not fair to say that we didn't hold him to standards that other clubs would.

You can't argue with Kane's assessment of our trading in players, but it really pisses me off when the media list Louge as a failure. The bloke did his knee FFS.

Think that has changed. Liam Shiels definitely retired and came back as a pre-season rookie lister.

Is there a distinction between someone who retires while still under contract with year/s left, and someone that 'retires' when his contract expires and the club says there is no new contract for you.

Ablett retired from Geelong 17 years ago.

Good question. I'd expect there would be clauses for somebody being paid out but we may not really care to add them.

Yeh they were quite the rehab clinic for Jack Steven.

Is Bard Scotts likely to be on the sniff?

I agree, but Sleevo had talent so it was worth trying to get the best out of him.

I think as CCC mentioned upthread one of the goals of that situation would be Duursma reminding Sleevo what its like to be young and talented. That makes sense as well.

We tried to get him to improve early as the exit meeting back in late August and he wasn't that dedicated (apparently)

God there’s some gold from this thread. What kind of logic is this? A team that has finished bottom 2 for 5 years is actually full of good players because the coach won 4 flags at another club & is forced to play 23 players every week? Ridiculous.

Time to face facts North fans - if we routinely finish bottom 2, do you think we are full of good players?
It’s big brain logic.

Remember, we are the best wooden spoon team ever. We are stacked with A grade talent.

Yes there is, I should have been clearer. It is to stop someone avoiding a trade situation when under contract like MM to *.
