There were changes made across the AFL to all senior coaches contracts in the COVID era and I think it means if Scotty is let go then the club only has to pay out ???60% of his remaining contract, and if Scotty got a job somewhere else next year they wouldn't have to pay him anything. A recent example of this is Clarko.

If it's only a 60% pay out, what was Clarkson on to get a $1.2 million payout for not coaching next year

If Scott is "burnt out" and feels he cant continue, well he's left it a little late to come to that conclusion hasn't he? ...are we to embrace a Carlton/Pies reject at the Club now? Do we appoint a rookie coach at this stage?

I thought this coming extension would be his last but didn't expect him to resign now. Mind you, who knows what his mental state is outside the inner sanctum and his family.

it seems very late with what would be a forensic assessment of what we need going forward, and then who could deliver that along with assistant appointments also needed.

Unless this has been in train for some weeks I find it a little hard to comprehend that this is happening now.

What have we got till the draft...6 weeks??

Furthermore, if a new senior coach is appointed it would be presumably on the basis of what he would do with the club, and not what the club boffins dictate and I presume that process hasn't even started yet....

If it happens, well so be it. Right now I find it all a bit shambolic if its in fact true.

Time will tell I guess.

If it is true that it is a situation of a "Come to an agreement" it means there's probably a level of mutuality to the decision. SHocking probably has someone he wants in the job up his sleeve anyway if so..

Yep, and that's exactly what the club has to weigh up. I suppose the positive is if we do reach a payout agreement with Chris, chances are his replacement is a first time Senior Coach in the mould of an Adam Kingsley type. So his replacement won't be on much money.
Blake Caracella would be worth a try, assistant at the Bombers now I think but most clubs don't hinder assistants moving if a top job is theirs to take.

I think this is where some of the other supporters doubt of an extension has come from, Scott is in a difficult position as his market value as a coach has taken a big hit and to enter his last year without an extension would be very very challenging as Buckley and clarko have seen

But having said that with all the talk of outdated game plan, lack of games into youth, finals record and now Scarlett rift etc. how could the club in good faith sign him for another medium term at this stage- without seeing what hockings Analysis would be and an audit of admin and footy department health.

He deserves a dignified exit and I was hoping of a transition- he still could coach on but it will be a pressure cooker in the absence of an extension which he may want to avoid the grief of.

He has said himself it’s a horrible job- A rebuild would be HEAVY lifting

Winning covers a lot of cracks as they say… no one saw the prelim coming and fair enough!

It's hard to imagine that there's not a decision made already by now

If you were James Kelly.. would you be signing on not knowing 100% that Chris will be there or who his replacement could be?

If I'm out of work with a young family and offered a good job on good money close to home doing what I love I'm not that concerned who the boss is.

GEELONG is targeting Western Bulldogs assistant Ash Hansen as part of its new-look coaching panel for next season after locking in favourite son James Kelly on Monday.

He didn't get $1.2 million, he got $450,000 a year for two years, so 900,000. That is considerably less than the $2 million+ he could've been paid if they paid him out in full. That is what the media has been saying. So if you don't agree with me then don't shoot the messenger.

If Scott leaves due to burnout, that would have to be the first time in world sport that successive coaches at the same club have quit due to burnout right?

Edit- I hate to see a coach leave due to what is essentially a temporary health condition. Why not give him some leave without pay and have Lappin step in for the start of 2022?

If he's that burnt out then make the call and bugger off. All he is doing is wasting time for us to get a new coach. Or if he does coach on next year, that's even worse cause how much work is he going to put in knowing he already has one foot out the door? What a shemozzle.
Who in their right mind would be in a hurry to take on Geelong at the end of 22?
It would have to be an untried young coach who is prepared for a long slow rebuild, and knowing he may not be privileged enough to see the fruits of his labour.
CS no doubt realises how hard it will be, but he should be able to see out his tenure rather than us rushing in to any coaching choice.

What would be the point of his final year if he's burnt out right now, as has been claimed?

Where does he find the motivation, excitement and drive in the next couple of weeks to push on for another whole year?

Hopefully we'll know the truth very soon.

He has lots of time to recharge for his last shot at it. 3-4 months could be long enough.
