You said hawthorn tried to copy us and failed. We have failed at it as well. Both have no flags by doing it.

hawthorn failed at it because they tried to sustain a period of competing for a premiership from 2016 onwards, and instead they quickly declined down the ladder and have been a bottom four side for the past 2 seasons now. from 2012-present we have have been competitive for the entirety of that time only missing finals once and playing off in a GF and have not bottomed out. quite a substantial difference. Would agree if say 2014 we bottomed out and ended up sitting in the bottom four that your statement would be correct.

Exactly
And to think we have 2 Coleman Medallist’s in our forward line yet we refuse to move the ball quickly to them
We can't get unpressured first use of the ball often enough to get it to them. Our beasts are not as beastly as those in the upper echelon teams .

Every year there are 17 failures by your definition. No season that I have supported Geelong, except for 2008, would I regard as a failed season.

I accept our midfield isnt flash so therefore wont necessarily do from centre but the lack of dare/run off half back is what really limits the scoring

Obsessively!! Boy the Scott boys love a bit of gaslighting.
I suppose why not? They don't get reported.
I'm not making out a magic finals button.
Pointing out that teams lose players. Even good ones!
They don't all play for 5000 games.
After 11 years maybe it's time to give the old AA players a rest.
What's your limit with that? 20 years? 30?
When did Michael Turner retire? Rotten luck he left back in the 80's. He should be playing now.

so you want to carry on about recruiting dangerfield and saying we are a top side because of apparently that, and any of the other champions like dalhaus rohan we have recruited and claim its all trading, but you don't like the flip side of that pointed out in regards to the talent we have lost over that same period of time??

it has to go both ways. not just simply to suit your argument

i am actually quite reasonable about it, i say both the ins and outs over the period if i reference it, i don't just say one or the other to suit what my opinion is.

STEWART made all the difference- our B & F, our AA , our MVP. When he was hot, we were top team.

exactly.

the definition literally gets to the point that apparently in 2020 we werent competing for a flag because we got overrun in the last qtr of a grand final

ok so curious question since i have actually had some discussions in here at various points claiming geelong didnt actually compete for a flag in 2020 despite the scores level of a grand final at 3qtr time.

so what is the new definition of competing for a premiership?? losing a grand final by what slender margin?? please fill in the blanks

With Stewart, it got to the stage he was being tagged. I wonder who can stand up next year in defence.
Bews certainly provided dash and creativity at times.
Maybe Duncan has to play a Mackie role.
Keeping Clark should have been a directive if it was up to me, but I know nothing really about our S & W, other than what we see in a game.
Henry could well be a critical player for us in coming years, and really hoping O'Connor gets back to his best.

When does it stop. We lost great players.
Or (gave them away for nothing)
It getting to 11 years for some of those players now.
Of course the players we got in (bar Danger) aren't as good.
It was the greatest team of all time!
Is the competition even close to what it was back then?
Hell No. The club knows this therefore went for trading in players. They reckoned they could get a flag with the likes of Rohan.
That's how low they rate the current competition.
And they ain't far off either.

i don't actually rate our defence all that great individually, but as a whole they are very well drilled to defend.

who from in our back six besides stewart is an A grader??? i would say nobody.

our 07-11 premiership team had 4A graders at least running around back there during any game. the two defences are miles apart.

We do need a focus on bringing in or drafting quality skilled defenders.

I do like how hawthorn is rebuilding from the backline with Will day and Grainger barras early picks. I hope when we do decline that we follow suit as its the most important part of the ground to fill talent with.

I do agree with you that the overall standard of the competition has dropped with equality measures and 2 extra sides.

no argument from me on that one.

I have no issues or beef with you and am happy to agree or disagree based on merit of posts. I don't have agendas or anything just to make that clear when i post.

I know that GC. I enjoy our discussions

What kids were traded away??
Dean Gore is one i remember... thrown in for the Danger trade with pick #10 Milera. i think that might of been a good move??
Josh Caddy an older player for pick 24 B.Parfitt.
T. Hunt was traded away along with the likes of Murdoch, GHS, Kersten, Hamling, Gardiner, Bundy.
Stanley came in for pick 21? Hugh Goddard??
Not sure what we gave up for Tuohy... whatever it was it was a bargain.
Hendo?? Not sure again...
But back to the kids we traded away. Who were these kids you talk of??
3 first rounders last year?

Scott doesn’t like the job and fails in finals. We continue to top up with old has beens to give Scott what he wants. He doesn’t play youth. We Play our best football sometime in June or July And then can’t peak in September because we are too old.
Rinse & repeat!
WE ARE TOO OLD TO PEAK IN SEPTEMBER IN 2022 AGAIN!

Young 18 year old kids are no good to the current coach. Usually benefit the next coach. Older ready made players are Good to the current coach. The club traded away the young kids for ready made players to gift the current coach.

Sorry, I still don’t understand. If you want the Cats to go to the draft, create a thread to sack the board because staying competitive requires a bias toward ready made players not raw kids. Craig Drummond has already stated the strategy will not change. And Scott has just signed another extension after 10 years, so by your logic he is the future coach bereft of “gifts”?

We didn’t get the chance to select the 3 young blokes. They are nameless men.

So they are no bodies... wow... how'd we get duped... shucks !! LOL.
As i said form the get go... The old catch cry of we've given up on young guns for old hacks is total BS.

Scott doesn’t like the job

sorry you lost me here and i didnt read beyond that.

the bloke took a 100% pay cut during covid to save others employment at the club, and goes bizerk with passion on game days.

he is the ultimate selfless club man and loves his job.

you will never find a bloke who hates his job that sacrifices 100% of his salary to give to others at the company.

So what if you replaced SCOTT with THE PLAYERS.
Replace WE to the Geelong Football Club.
Then the next Scott to Wells & the List manager.
and lastly... when are you considered too old? 29? 30? 31? 32? 33?
Repeat after me. The Glass is Half Full.
Cheers China

i reckon if you walked around the club saying what they say in this thread about scott there would probably be about a half dozen staff lined up to punch you in the face and players willing to tell you to hand back your membership package, as he seems that well respected and loved inside the 4 walls for his work, selflessness to put others first during covid, and his passion.

He couldn’t recommend to his brother to seek another senior coaching gig. As he said ‘it’s not a good job’. His own words sometime pre season this year or early year.
