i reckon if you walked around the club saying what they say in this thread about scott there would probably be about a half dozen staff lined up to punch you in the face and players willing to tell you to hand back your membership package, as he seems that well respected and loved inside the 4 walls for his work, selflessness to put others first during covid, and his passion.
Yet 3 assistants walked! Wouldn’t they want to stay to repay Scott for his selfless act of compassion and go again in 2022?

Every year there are 17 failures by your definition. No season that I have supported Geelong, except for 2008, would I regard as a failed season.

Funny how you hear a lot of players saying if you don’t win a flag, it’s a failed season.

And yes, there are 17 failures per year. The whole point of a football season is to find a winner. 1. Not 18. It’s the whole reason they play the game. The goal is to win. Not come 2nd, 3rd or 18th.

sorry you lost me here and i didnt read beyond that.

the bloke took a 100% pay cut during covid to save others employment at the club, and goes bizerk with passion on game days.

he is the ultimate selfless club man and loves his job.

you will never find a bloke who hates his job that sacrifices 100% of his salary to give to others at the company.
He himself said it’s a crap job. But i guess that’s made up as well 🙄

He couldn’t recommend to his brother to seek another senior coaching gig. As he said ‘it’s not a good job’. His own words sometime pre season this year or early year.

Maybe it’s partly because the head coach is an employee implementing a club strategy (in this case to stay competitive and top-up with ready made players) while copping flak from poorly informed keyboard warriors?

we have hardly had any assistant coaching movements over the past ten years, we have been incredibly stable actually.

if anything it has been criticised they all stay too long and it irritates people.

probably taking out of context so please quote this article??

common sense assumption of that without seeing context of quite would be its a tough brutal job with high demands and stress, long hours etc, and that he advises taking a more administrative role such that brad has done. If scott didnt love his job, he wouldnt work for free or sign contract extensions when he would have other options such as AFL administrative roles or game development ones that are more long term security.

They'll be fine.
As middle aged men or older, they will now get to enjoy their footy again as it will be Essendon and Carlton playing in a lot of finals each year while you re-watch those premiership wins and agonizing finals defeats on YouTube :thumbsu:
And as Geelong struggles to make finals for years, there may come a time when he ponders how nice it would be were there a few more past triumphs to revisit, and then thinks about the 7 top 4 finishes post-2011, ruminating on how you could have so many opportunities to not have any yield an additional flag.

Clubs cannot remain at the top in perpetuity. That's been a point I've been making for years. That's why you have to make hay while the sun is shining as it were... and under Scott we have not.

I'm sure a lot of players love Scott.

Probably a considerable overlap between the players who most ardently support him and the ones who have continued to let us down in finals, or the mediocre ones whose selection in spite of output has remained dubious.

or the ones who won flags under him in 2011 who came back to work under him as an assistant coach like enright, scarlett and now J kelly. must have really had poor relationships with guys like these and only "hacks" he gets along with. beggs belief why he seems to be able to get them to come back as assistants.

then throw in the horrible relationships and respect he must have had at brisbane, with N lappin following him, as well as Caracella who he played with.

shit person who those around obviously think little of. not to mention fooling the simple minds all these years of Steve hocking, brian cook, Frank costa into contract extensions.

Who has ever said he's a shit person?

So they are no bodies... wow... how'd we get duped... shucks !! LOL.
As i said form the get go... The old catch cry of we've given up on young guns for old hacks is total BS.

Is it? So why were there eleven players - that is, 11 players - aged 30 or more in the Prelim final? In 2007 Grand final day we had one. When half the team is 30 or more that's kind of proving the point overwhelmingly they are favouring older players.

So what if you replaced SCOTT with THE PLAYERS.
Replace WE to the Geelong Football Club.
Then the next Scott to Wells & the List manager.
and lastly... when are you considered too old? 29? 30? 31? 32? 33?
Repeat after me. The Glass is Half Full.
Cheers China

Anywhere in that bracket. It depends on the player. Statistically though, it is undeniable that players start declining around aged 30 (again, on average), and they never recover their best. Doesn't happen. Selwood isn't going to reproduce 2013 form again. In sport the young always eventually overthrows the old, and we saw that in the Prelim final.

It could easily be checked by looking at the average age of premiership teams. At a guess I'd say it's somewhere between 25-26. I'm tipping our average age in September was a bit higher than that. And it's too old when other teams destroy you in finals. And that happened twice, and in one we barely looked competitive and at times were treated with contempt. But let's pretend it didn't happen, and they'll all be magically better and younger next year.

Surely not, you wouldn't be advocating assault for having a different opinion would you?

Would be interesting to see which members of staff stepped forward anyway.

Seems that some, like you, are bitter, angry, feel cheated if we don't win a flag.
I feel rapt I have witnessed 3 in 5, when they are so hard to win.
Of course the aim is to win a flag, but nearly each season, the best and most deserved team wins.
Stats show that when 2 teams are 6-0 after 6, they nearly 100% of the time go on to play in the GF. And so it was this year. Yet, for a little while, we were excited about our prospects.
Isn't that better than not even making the 8?

Depends on list strategy and age of players..

Geel making the finals and continually failing - well its a bit like Mike Atherton facing Glenn McGrath - just continual failure
Nah.

Its more like if Atherton was in the 80/90s and McGrath was picking him up before he was able to get to 100.

If Atherton was averaging 80 against Australia, you would take it all day everyday, even if centuries were few and far between.

Scott doesn’t like the job and fails in finals. We continue to top up with old has beens to give Scott what he wants. He doesn’t play youth. We Play our best football sometime in June or July And then can’t peak in September because we are too old.
Rinse & repeat!
WE ARE TOO OLD TO PEAK IN SEPTEMBER IN 2022 AGAIN!
And if we do, you can bet with our luck, the GF will be in October!!!

I'd say the better players. If younger players are not better than older players why would u play them??
isn't the point of putting your best players up.
Now about those 11 players.
I'd say adding Stewart, MOC and Parfitt into the 23 and dropping Higgins, Rohan & Henderson makes it all better...Yeah?
Gives us only 8 30yo plus olds. That's fixed that i reckon lol.
How many did we have in the grand finals of 2009? 2011? 2020?? Just interested...

Who has ever said he's a sh*t person?

fill in the gap with whatever you like, arrogant, stubborn, ____, ____, _____...... must be all of those to sacrifice his salary during COVID to save jobs around him at the club.

the one bloke who sounds like a complete knob if you hear him at pressers is luke bevo... very disrespecful w***er of a bloke.

I'm not as sold on O'Connor as others, but the other two in for Higgins and Rohan improves us immediately. So definitely a little better for sure.

And that's not a Geelong thing, it's just a habit of footy clubs. Coaches love certain players, and all coaches have their favourites. Just the way it is.

All well and good. But the gameplan/personnel aren't working. There is not a correlation between being loved and being competent.
