Scotty got a new job
Oh I seriously hope this is bullshit.
Nobody whose salary is counted as part of a cap should receive payments of any sort from a club sponsor - nobody. Even if it is in exchange for work. It's so dodgy.

Yeah, that's why I'm disappointed. IMO this kind of thing shouldn't be happening, nobody paid under a cap should be able to supplement their income with a club sponsor. Why would it be bullshit? That's an official photo, and I'm not sure Cleary would be into photoshop just for clicks

I don't think you could call the GC job easy in any way, given that they have never, ever finished above 12th.
They need to fix player retention first, then the rest will start to come into focus
He is just making up for his year with no salary during Covid
Remove the Footy Dept soft cap.Tend to agree. Ripe for complete manipulation of the soft cap. It just isn’t a great look.
Remove the Footy Dept soft cap.
This sport looks after the weak and lame far too much.
St.Kilda, NM etc would be wildebeest left for the hyenas to finish off in the wild. But in the AFL's zoo we prop them up perpetually.
A salary cap on playing lists is enough.
To me that's beside the point. What rights should the AFL have to block secondary income streams. IMV it should be 'only' based around fair value. I.e. There actually has to be the production of a good or service to warrant the remuneration. With Scott, this “job” just brings unnecessary speculation. He doesn’t need the cash. If he’s looking at opportunities post footy then maybe it’s time he went. It just doesn’t look right and we’d be similarly outraged if it was Voss or McRae that had a similar position with a club sponsor.
I get your point but I’m pretty sure CS completed a leadership and development course at Harvard so the job ain’t exactly outside the bounds of his professional development and career.I’m not sure if we barracked for either Nth or Saints we’d be feeling the same. I think there needs to be a soft cap or else we potentially risk the rich clubs just dominating year after year (even with the soft cap those 2 clubs are crap anyway).

Go Catters
The idea that Clarko did an authentic leadership course is genuinely amusing to me. He would certainly pride himself on being authentic. And he is definitely a leader. From an article in The Age regarding the Dangerfield trade to Geelong - it mentions the following in regards to the higher education opportunities taken by those working at Geelong:
"Geelong's recruiting boss Stephen Wells and football chief Steven Hocking haven't yet seen Harvard Yard, but the Cats hierarchy has an unusual affinity with the world's most celebrated business school. Geelong president Colin Carter completed a two-year Masters of Business Administration at Harvard. Carter encouraged Cook to take on the executive course and has coach Chris Scott signed up for the same "authentic leadership" course that Alastair Clarkson did; Geelong's heads of media and Human Resources, too, have done short, sharp Harvard courses."
How Harvard helped the Dangerfield deal
The game's biggest deal of 2015, the Paddy Dangerfield trade, was influenced by Harvard University business school lessons.www.theage.com.au
Wasn't this reported as being signed off by the AFL last week?

Plus Geelong wouldn’t risk their hard earnt reputation by trying to do something as dodgy as this so publiclyCS is clearly the most intelligent and erudite and transparent coach in the business- if he is as upfront about taking on this role as he seems to be, you could guarantee it is 100% above board. He has been in the business a long time now and I have zero anxiety about his machinations.
Pure image management for the league. Look like they're doing something about a matter before ultimately doing precisely nothing.Plus Geelong wouldn’t risk their hard earnt reputation by trying to do something as dodgy as this so publicly
It was signed off and now the AFL are backtracking for some strange reason
Not only a great coach, the only one at this club that can coach
Was more meaning Corrigan and Lowther massively under performed in season 2024 and should be on notice for next year.I dont believe that is so...I understand Lappin and Rahilly play significant roles as assistant coaches and the fact that Steven King went very close to getting the Eagles role indicates he has somerecognised coaching ability
Depends on how our club regards the purpose of the teams they coached. It may not be all ab out winning, b ut more about trialling players in potential positions of need at senior level etc. plus player availability. Taking surplus players interstate may have been more important at times than having a deep squad back home to work with. Was more meaning Corrigan and Lowther massively under performed in season 2024 and should be on notice for next year.
