It was .. I guess the AFL think they can milk it for another few weeks until the draft
Pity that a Geelong boy in Mitch Cleary would allow himself to become a pawn in this game

I’m not sure if we barracked for either Nth or Saints we’d be feeling the same. I think there needs to be a soft cap or else we potentially risk the rich clubs just dominating year after year (even with the soft cap those 2 clubs are crap anyway).

With Scott, this “job” just brings unnecessary speculation. He doesn’t need the cash. If he’s looking at opportunities post footy then maybe it’s time he went. It just doesn’t look right and we’d be similarly outraged if it was Voss or McRae that had a similar position with a club sponsor.
Not true. I could not care less what any coach earns- it's a thankless job, and anything is fair game. Their salaries should not be capped at all.
And who is currently coaching the bottom teams? Hardwick jumped ship because he's an opportunist; Clarko is at NM. These are highly paid coaches, and good luck to them.
If CS owned multiple hotels around Australia, you'd be ok with that?

Given that 5-6 clubs were winning and competing in a large proportion of Grand Finals before the soft cap, and the same 5-6 are still competing in a large proportion of Grand Finals with the soft cap isn't that evidence that the footy dept cap has done nothing to promote fairness and equalisation in the competition??

It wasn't that long ago, around 2019, that many non-Geelong fans enjoyed deriding CS as not being that good of a coach and encouraging Geelong supporters to get club to sack him. I'll admit that I also thought at that time Geelong should have been considering moving on from CS and start the process of finding a replacement that would hopefully get Geelong over the hump of just making it to the 3rd week of finals.

But after the 2022 flag CS is now supposedly some hot highly valued precious commodity that should be pried out from Geelong fold and allowed to be poached by less successful clubs. Wouldn't surprise in the least bit if some of those whingeing about CS getting some extra income from outside the club potted him relentlessly just a few years ago. lol

There shouldn't be a salary cap on non player staff anyway, laughable, ludicrous and embarrassing that this rule was introduced. I don't think there's any other comparable professional sport league in the world that has such a silly rule.

Struggling clubs should do their due diligence and spend some time vetting up and coming potential coaches, not trying to poach ones from clubs that have done that process right. Invest money in developing young coaches if necessary.

There's a school of thought that long term coaches become irrelevant relics (see Clarkson) that don't keep up with evolving innovating strategies and as a result the game eventually passes them by. CS is probably one of the few coaches that has remained fairly consistent in his out put through out the years, he's an anomaly.

Never-the-less most coaches have a very short shelf life and don't last as long as CS so in my opinion putting a cap on the salary of non player staff is a pretty stupid unnecessary pointless rule. Almost makes me suspect that it was a rule introduced solely for the purpose of poaching CS for the Tasmania Devils and from the AFL's point of view maybe even get Geelong to finally slide down the ladder and out of the Top 8 for a few years.
