14 years ago today we ended a 72 year premiership drought.

:sydney: GO YOU MIGHTY BLOODS!! :sydney:

I remember just having this sense of destiny that we were going to win it all after that Semi Final against Geelong

It was a great day, and we were lucky enough to experience another great day 7 years later.

I’ve been away from footy for years and the one thing that brought me back was a chance sighting of a video in my YouTube recommended feed of Nick Davis’ 4 goal last quarter in that 05 semi against the Cats...

I was there that day, sitting behind the goals at the other end and just hoping it stayed down at our goals that we might clinch it. The atmosphere was utterly electric and with every goal Davis kicked the hope and anticipation ramped up several levels until that final goal that won the game with seconds to spare and I thought the whole place would crumble under the fanatic energy.

Since I caught that video I’ve been watching it on repeat and it still gives me chills. Simply amazing and best moment in sport ever for me and likely will never be out done.

Prelim against the Saints doesn’t get enough love I reckon.
Down 61 v 48 then Hall kicks a goal in the final minutes of the 3rd to get things rolling.

Bazza on song was a matchwinner. He could tear a game apart. A beatiful kick & strong overhead but, possibly his most underrated attribute, was selfless & the ultimate teammate (until he let his anger get in the way later of course).

He let his 2006 GF performance get to him too much & took it all on board & ended up unable to handle it all I think... But his 05 & 06 seasons were inspirational & he lead us well I thought.

Gee Tick you are so right, doesn't get anywhere near the love it deserves, that was the game that (to me anyway), gave the belief that we actually could do it and go the whole way.
I remember sitting on the floor in front of the television, actually crying at how amazing the comeback was and screaming like a crazy person with every goal kicked.
I remember going to bed, the alarm set at 5am so I could get to the SCG to line up for GF tickets, but I was buzzing so much that I couldn't sleep, so I got up about 1am, packed a thermos and snacks and my eldest daughter and I headed off to the ground - thinking we'd be the first ones there! We were very much mistaken, there were hundreds there already and such a party atmosphere! It was such a great night, I'm kinda sad they don't do GF tix like that anymore because it was one hell of an experience, so many people camped out (and it was a pretty chilly night from memory) all there for the same thing, all delirious with joy because our boys had made us so proud.

What a brilliant month September 2005 was, don't think I'll ever experience so much unbridled joy and happiness as I experienced then, I reckon that was a better high than any drug could ever give!

Think sometimes it’s like we beat Cats and went straight to the GF. The boys effort in the Prelim gets missed I feel.
Pebbles, Schneider and Buchanan in the last quarter were huge.
Don't forget the umpires were all over St Kilda's dick that game. It took Roos to get Bazza to get into Mclaren and his other cronies at 3 quarter time to give us a fair go in the last quarter.

Swannies beat the Saints on the Friday night which was the start of my buck's weekend. Was supposed to have a quiet one before the main festivities kicked off (and man did they kick off) but we ended up at a nightclub until 3am celebrating the Swans making the Grand final. Buck's weekend wrapped up Sunday night. Had to take Monday off.

Watched the Swans win the flag with my local footy team the weekend after and got married the weekend after that. One of my groomsmen made me sing the Swans' song during the wedding speeches.

Pretty amazing few weeks in my life.

I remember after the Saints game i rushed over with RW from the Aussie rules club in Kings Cross (RIP) to the SCG to line up for Grand Final tickets. Camping overnight in the cold and wet till 9am or so the next day to secure tickets for the big dance. I remember the buzz around that night waiting in anticipation of possible destiny the next week, lot's of singing and energy even if it was cold, wet and miserable. A few people getting pizzas delivered etc. What an archaic system it was back then but thank **** it was worth it in the end.

That's right, i had forgotten it was the Friday night and we had to go in two days in a row to get our tickets. From memory we paid and secured our seat on the saturday then we had to go back and pick up the actual ticket on the sunday.
They changed the whole thing in 2006 and we paid by phone on the Monday and the tickets were delivered to the house later in the week. Much easier but nowhere near as much fun.

Skipped a mates wedding to attend the game and was thereafter on the bad friends list.
Who has a wedding on a grand final day?

Could barely hear the siren at the end but was relieved the game was over.

My wife and I were invited to a wedding in Brisbane that day.
She was in Brisbane, I was in the the highest most far back seat in the Great Southern Stand.

We must have been sitting near each other, we were three rows from the top - couldn't see a thing, the players were like ants on the ground, but we were there and we knew when the final siren sounded that we were the premiers, the only thing that mattered!

Yep, got the last lot of tickets issued to the Club. No one could say "siddown in front" to me.

But there was a West Coast supporter sitting next to me, so someone scalped theirs. Bet they regret it now.

That last quarter is still the most enjoyable quarter of footy I've ever witnessed. We pummelled them and had the game won less than 10 minutes in. Kirk, Okeefe and Schneider were on fire.

...and in July 2012 I opened a letter containing an invitation to my wife's cousin's wedding on Saturday 27th September at 2.30pm.
That's when I became the first person on the planet to declare the Swans premiers.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone likely to get married next year.
What about retaking your vows?
