Howard won absolutely everything he went for, massive performance.
Thought Saints really missed Bale,so many free kicks but never really threatened IMO.Sethlad was in his element, fans fave & got a standing ovation when subbed late

seth

Fantastic result considering Barnes was out injured and Billy chose to not include Currie or Jones. Leacock makes me nervous when the ball gets close to him.....kind of like a Kepler Bradley.
Two more games to go...

OMG at Pele giving that ridiculous penalty away.

Stupid stupid thing to do and it was the most obvious penalty I have seen all year, and there have been some obvious ones.

It was a strange feeling leaving Telstra Dome having beaten the 2005 Premiers and 2006 Grand Finalists and being shattered but that's how the night turned out.

Typical Southampton performance unfortunately.

Thankfully away goals don't count for double and we're the highest scoring team on the road this season so it's not over yet. We've just made things very hard for ourselves and the loss of Bale and Jones in particular is a huge blow. :(

I've always wondered why away goals wouldn't count in playoff semis?

I guess because so much is at stake, but really the away goals aren't directly getting you into the top flight, just into the final.

Just so it's even i guess, you've each got the home tie to win and of course there is favouritism in the higher placed team having home advantage 2nd.

We're a frustrating a side to watch.

Pele should be banished to the bench forever, ****ing idiot

Nah im a fan of it. Rewards the team who finished above the other team I reckon which is always good. I think Derby should get through but if they do next year should be the year for Southampton. Sell Bale for 10-15 mill. Fix up that defense abit aswell as the midfield and they should be challenging for a top 2 finish.

I suppose another disappointing thing is that had Claus Lundekvam not have hurt his ankle against Southend last week Pele would not have even been playing.

I wish I was as confident of success next season as you Embers. If we don't go up I don't think we'll have a lot of money to spend, even with the proceeds from selling Bale.

The play offs should be played like the old final 4 system imo. Much fairer to the sides that finished higher.

I look forward to thrashing either of these teams next season.

A crap Villa team beat Wolves 5-0 at that Molinuex (sp?) stadium last time we played them. Imagine what our current team would do to them!!

A boring 1-0 win with more back passes then a Crows game.

Seriously good match. Man I love Gary Breen. Hes my hero :D

Diabolical Wolves defending by Gary Breen allows Kamara straight through. 3-2 Albion

Wolves inches away from equalising!

Despite a late season slump in form I think West Brom are one of the best teams in the league and they were the team I was most hoping to avoid.

For the neutrals it's probably good that both playoff matches are well and truly alive going into the second leg. Definitely advantage Derby and West Brom though. :(

West Brom have clearly got the most talent of any of the four playoff teams, but I desperately hope they don't come up - I hate yo-yo teams. The only observation I have after watching the full Derby-Southampton match and the second half last night is I'd hate to be a player in that league - my goodness, is it tough.
