A good source tells me young Robbie is lining up for Bendigo this year, I wasnt sure about the news at first but was told a bit more and seems to be close to the money

Sat next to Chris Tarrant at a dinner in Sydney last month and asked him about his young brother. Stated he will not play TAC only Private School Footy this year. He mentioned that alot of good sources have rated him as a top 20 pick in the draft.
Have you got a comment on him Mojo?

I have not seen him so i cant judge. I dont think he is doing himslef any favours though with his approach to getting drafted.

Here is an article. I cant post the link because it is archived and not available.

Younger Tarrant to keep Pies waiting
13 September 2005 Herald Sun
Michael Stevens

COLLINGWOOD fans salivating at the prospect of having another Tarrant in the Magpie ranks will have to wait until next year.

Finals: Week 2

Robbie Tarrant, the younger brother of star full-forward Chris Tarrant, does not turn 17 until April 25, 2006. That means he is eligible for the 2006 national draft by five days.

Taller than his brother with a slim build, Robbie Tarrant has won best-and-fairest awards for South Mildura in the Sunraysia League: the Virgona Medal for under-15s in 2004, and the Hynes Medal for under-13s in 2002.

This year he has been boarding in Melbourne after accepting a sports scholarship at Xavier College. But he has played only school football and seemingly has not been keen to follow the traditional path through the TAC under-18 competition.

Collingwood last night acknowledged it knew about the younger Tarrant.

"We've obviously got a keen interest in how he goes, but so have 15 other clubs," chief executive Greg Swann said last night.

"You can't do anything about it, it's just a question of keeping an eye on him and see where he ends up in next year's draft." Swann said the Magpies had nothing to do with Robbie Tarrant coming to Melbourne for his schooling.

"His dad did that," Swann said. "He's on a sports scholarship at Xavier. His dad's a teacher in the catholic school system, and he went for a scholarship, and he boards down here. That's common knowledge and it wasn't anything to do with us. Put it this way, if you're fishing that we're hiding Robbie Tarrant, we're not hiding Robbie Tarrant. Everybody knows about Robbie Tarrant. He won every best-and-fairest in the Sunraysia League until he came to Melbourne."

A recruiting officer at another AFL club said he felt the younger Tarrant was not doing himself any favours by not following the traditional path into the draft.

"I saw him once and he had a knee injury and he wandered on and off the ground strapped up pretty heavily," he said.

"I remember talking to Leon Harris (Victorian under-16 coach) about him, and he said he didn't show any passion to be involved in his elite squad at that stage.

"If he's not getting the development, when he gets there (eligible for the draft) he's not going to be good enough."

I've heard alot of mixed things about him. I know he played at Xaviers, but my source tells me they seen him have a run at the Pioneers Practice match with father Paul on the sidelines. He's said to go alright but I'd want to see for myself before I passed judgement

The only thing that is known is that he is very young, tall and very thin and will be hard to judge where he ranks. How he deveolps is anybodies guess at this stage. One to watch but I dont want to specualte on him. Will leave that to others who might know more about him.

9) Jack Riewoldt

Key position player

193cms and 83kgs
31/10/88
Clarence, Tasmania

Very impressive at the U18 Championships and stood out for Tasmania. Played all over the ground and showed he was up standard as a forward or as a back. Looks like his cousin Nick and moves like him. Not as athletic (who is?) but has good pace and endurance and the trademark long searching lead of Nick. Also showed the ability to play as a key defender and looked very comfortable there organising the defenders and using his body. Read the play and was not caught out and was good in the 1 on 1 contests.
Clean handler of the ball and especially above his head. Capable of taking a pack mark and playing on stronger and physical opponents when up forward. Showed his class and maturity by dominating in the finals in Tasmania for Clarence (senior football) where he played as key forward and kicked 4 and 5 goals in successive weeks and took a lot of strong marks and was there best finals player.
Was targeted in those games from his opponents but never shirked the issue and was impressed with that. This is not TAC cup where the slightest indiscretion is picked up but a pretty physical and rough style.
A good kick and fine athlete who is tough, versatile and already a good size. Has a very good leap and is similar in style to his cousin.

Versatile key position player who has a number of strings to his bow and could really play and of the 4 key posts in time and development. Really excels in his marking with his good hands and leap. Can really take a strong pack mark and out on the lead when he gets a jump at the ball and extends his arms he is pretty hard to stop. Looked better at the U18 Championships as a defender but his form in senior football in Tasmania in the finals can not be ignored. So I look at him as a less athletic version of Hansen and Thorp. A couple of cms shorter and not quite as quick and as good a tank but that sort of quality coming through for the club who gets him.

10) Bachar Houli

Midfielder

179cms and 83kgs
12/5/88
Western Jets (TAC)

Very clean and composed midfielder. Tremendous skills by foot and given space and time he will be very damaging. Long kick of the ball as well as accurate.
Hard at the ball and man and possesses a natural physical edge to his game that really cannot be taught. Very good in contested situations and is clean with his hands under pressure and is a very smart player. Has vision and awareness and plays the game as if everyone else is in slow motion.
A little to one dimensional in being attacking and wont work hard enough the other way and be defensive. Needs to work on that aspect of his game.

Not quick and is a stocky build already. Worry about possible weight problems, OP and the dreaded “modified program”. 3rd in the Jets best and fairest and only played 7 games. Made the final 25 for Vic Metro in the announced squads. Had ankle problems and missed a couple of games and then developed stress fractures in his back.
Very good around goals and has a natural instinct for them and kicked a number in the TAC last year before the injury.

Not an athlete but a true footballer who has qualities that cannot not be taught and if he can overcome injury concerns then could develop into a fine player. Might not quite fit the profile of a skinny athlete that clubs seem to go for but the fact is he can use the ball at a high level and is very clever around goals and gathering possessions around the ground. By all means look hard at the prognosis of how his body will stand up in the future and also his character to do the hard work to not develop ‘Dean Rioli weight issues”. However don’t question that he has talents that more athletic players do not have and most likely never will.

If he re captures the form of early 2005 when he is fully fit then he moves up in the rankings and well inside the top 10. The question marks will be on his body, pace over the first few steps and agility and being able to work both ways.

Had the stress fractures from last year and seems to be over them but then picked up an achilles injury and is slowly getting right now. So far in the pre season the reports have been good. Might be a touch lighter and is over the stress fractures. Not in full training yet but not far away.
Looks set for a big year and should recapture his form of early 2005 when he was an absolute standout with his skill and goal kicking.

I got a number of pms from people asking me about a few players. I read them at the time but did not have the time to reply. I have since deleted them by accident so anyone who asked me and I have not answered them then please pm me again or post in this thread and I will endeavour to answer on Monday.

I will not be online over the weekend and be back on Monday. Have a good weekend everyone.

I don't know much about him, but of the one school football game i saw him play last year he did not look up to the task. Did not stand out, things may of changed but i doubt it.

Tom Holmes from SA what do you think of him and Matt Roscow also but more interested in tommy thanks MJ

Tom Holmes

Pretty small. 174cms and 70kgs. March 1 1989 so he is bottom aged and just eligible for the next draft. He can get a lot of the ball and is classy. But at his height he will need to be very good which he is on what I have seen. Just the height issue with hardly ant players 180 and lower getting drafted. They seem to slip through to the rookie draft or PSD. Betts, Pearce and White are recent examples.
From South Australia and the Glenelg club.

Good pace and runs all day and just needs to grow. Only judging him on the U16s Champs last year. You might have seen him play in the school competition over there for PAC. Has pretty decent wraps on him and I think he will be drafted and where he will go will depend on his size at the time.

At 180 he goes top 30. At 175 he goes late or is rookied. Something like that. Not that I agree with it entirely but it is the way of recruiting these days.

All just my opinion at this early stage.

I already spoke about him. He is there and mentioned numerous time. Go back through and you will see.

Pegged him in the top 30.

What do u think of Nathan Djerkurra?

A small skinny midfielder with pure speed, athleticism, falir and extreme skill. Also very short at 176cms.

Set to play TAC this year and hopefully he is taller and bigger. Someone posted here that he is but I dont know until I see him for myself.
From NT and down here on scholarship.

Eligible for the 2006 draft. 19/9/1988 and 176cms and 69kgs listed for the U18s Champs where he was named but did not play (his choice).

Mojo - in the past few years of you watching the young up and coming talent around Victoria, who, in your own opinion, would be the most talented kid you have seen?

Hansen and then Deledio. I missed the Judd/Hodge/Ball/Riewdolt era.

Just depends on how Hansen develops but if he continues it this year then he is the best kid I would have seen in Victoria before being drafted.
Not to say he will but at this stage he would be number 1 on what I have seen.

Wow, Hansen must be pretty special (sorry Bruce!!)
I'm pretty keen to get to a couple of games this year when Gippsland play in Melbourne so I can have a look at this guy.

Mojo31, First of all I would like to say you have done a top job at this early stage with the player proflies, much appreciated. I would also like to know your thoughts on Jake Foulds, if thats possible?

Here it is

Kennedy from Sandringham looks pretty good to me. Played mainly as a defender last year and a few stints on the ball. Very clean ball handler and outstanding winning the ball in contested situations. Good mark and a fine reader of the play and a physical player.
Not that athletic but has enough. Should play as an inside midfielder this year and develop even more. Physically built already.

When I wrote my list for who to look out for this year in the TAC and to choose what games to try and get to I did not have him down after talking to someone about him. I have been told he will not be in the draft pool and therefore wont be looking out for him. If he is good enough he will be going to the Hawks. He is good enough for a 3rd round pick even in a strong draft at this stage.

Not to say there wont be some trolling going on by some posters here on BF saying he does not want to go to Hawthorn but been told he will if the Hawks want him.

At this stage I would have him at around the 25-30 range for 2006. In a weak draft (like 2005) he would be 15-20.

Just adding to what I wrote already.

He is 186cms. His father was 190 or 191cms and so if he gets to that height h becomes a pinch hit KPP with his ability to take a strong mark and use his body well. He reads the ball quickly in the air and would make a fine old fashioned and reliable CHB come HBF at that height who can play on a variety of talls.
If he stays at 186 then he can still play as a half back flanker at AFL level but I would like to see hiom play more midfield this year and become an inside/clearance player. He has really good hands overhead and bwlow his knees. They dont double grab the ball and he picks it up and uses it cleanly under pressure. You cant teach that and he has that skill. He uses his body well in congestion and is not distracted by body contact and take his eyes off the ball. He also gets a lot of it when he did play centre last year and so I would like to see more of that this year.

Half back flanker - yes
Inside midfielder - maybe
KPP - maybe

at this stage.

I can understand where your mate is coming from. Prismall is one of those playerts who when you might read a profile he looks fantastic.
Height, speed, booming kick, bottom aged.

The words potential, scope for improvement and versatility come to mind.

He is very 1 sided and is an "outside" player. He plays wing and also half forward flank and he has talent. He might grow into a KPP size but doubt he will ever play like one. More likely to be a tall wingman or flanker who runs and carries and gets the ball given to him a lot.

This type of player is eagerly sought after to be honest. Think Grant Birchall from the last draft. Tall flanker with speed and skill. Prismall is a smilar type.

Now these type of players are never going to give you Michael Voss levels of hardness but with how the umpiring is going and how the game is changing players like Birchall and Prismall are suited.

So I think he will get drafted pretty comfortably if he develops this year. I know he can look a little lost out there at times but he also can do some good work and a few good pieces of play as well. Just a bit more workrate and contest a little better when its his time to go.

Mojo i know its off the topic but you say that Deledio is the best you have seen, i have heard the bushrangers coach rates Beau Muston as highly as Deledio, Im just wondering if u ever saw him play and what your thoughts are on him?

I know its off the topic but I am just curious..

Thanks

Nothing is off topic in here mate. Just ask away and when I have time I will answer as best as I can.

When I wrote those profiles on the 2005 draft I had not seen anywhere near as many tapes and highlights as I have know. So If I had to do it again I would change the order a bit and add a lot more detail. But that draft is over and it does not change anything now.

So on Muston.

He was absolutely dominant at the start of the last year. I mean dominant as in game breaking and absolutely electric. Pace, flair, skill and kicked goals and was so natural. Skinny as a twig and tall but he could flat out play the game like very few others of his age can. So I can see where his coach is coming from to describe him as like Deledio.
The thing with Muston is that he was much older when he was doing it compared to the very bottom aged Deledio when he dominated before getting drafted.

So it will come down to Mustons ability to recover from his knee and to put on weight. Pretty big risks but worth it. I am surprised he lasted until 22 to be honest and think he will embarrass a few clubs who overlooked him.

Mojo 31
Do you think Ricky Delphine is any chance of getting drafted? I know his size is against him, but he is a prolific ball winner.
