Kurt Tippet coming into the 2006 draft had only played a handful of games at any level and was taken by Adelaide with its second round pick at number 32. Given what he has shown over the pre season (considering he missed most of last year through injury aswell) would he be a top 10 pick if that draft was revised. He has massive potential considering how much he will learn over the next couple of years

Probably would be in the top 10 in a revised draft. But i don't blame any AFL recruiters that passed him by as he was a preety big gamble, and fortunately it has paid off for the crows.

yeah i think picking any player with that little expirence in such a strong draft is a gamble but apparently if Sellar wasnt available at 16 they would have got him then. The crows recruiters saw something that the others didnt

I don't think he'd be a top 10 pick yet. He hasn't done anything in the H & A season, ie. the stuff that matters.

However, he does look very promising, I'd say he would probably be an early 2nd rounder, and I have him on my SC bench.

Compromise? :D

This is the 2006 draft remember. Top 10 is a big call.

Gumbleton, Luenberger, Hansen, Gibbs, Boak, Thorp, Both Browns, Boak, Houli, Goldsack, Selwood, Armitage, Proud, Hampson, Everitt, Riewoldt, Sellar, Hawkins, Westhoff.

Just off the top of my head without looking at the draft. All of them I'd take before Tippet.

You don't rate Reid for some reason?

Boak's so good in fact you would pick him twice ahead of Tippet apparently lol:D

I must admit in my phantom in 96 i really thought about him as the one i would want at collingwoods top 10. I got a lot of stick from my fellow phantom drafters but I had seen a bit of him at S'port and was convinced he would make the grade. Still do. I would definately have him front of both Browns at the moment, notwithstanding Mitch has done well, its just that Kurts upside is massive and he is now starting to show it. Even though i love Goldsack you would have to say Tippett has more upside. Would definately have Reid in front of him though......Reid could be sensational.

Pretty good list of names there.

A revised top 15 of the '06 Draft perhaps:
Based on form and improvement over two preseasons

Selwood
Boak
Houli
Everitt
Mitch Brown
Goldsack
Hawkins
Westhoff
Armitage
Gibbs
Hansen
Gumbleton
Reid
Hampson
Nathan Brown

Proud/Leunenberger could easily be in there, but havent seen a whole lot of them or brisbane for that matter

On exposed form, Leuenberger should certainly be in that top 10, and Hansen probably shouldn't. I'd have Nathan J Brown higher too, but of course he's only played the one game, so I can't argue too strongly on that point.

Jesus christ bro no wonder no wonder you got stick. predicting the draft 10 years in advance is a little presumptuous.

You were always a big fan of Tippett, but as someone who was always a big fan of Nathan J. Brown did the weekend's performance change your mind any?

And with Tippett, in fairness, #32 was considered a bit of a fall for him. He was generally thought to be a 18-25 range pick, albeit always one that might slide. What I was surprised at at the time was that Hampson, Renouf and Tippett were ALL off the board by #32, and in that order, which is pretty much the reverse of how I thought they'd go. Based on what Hampson and Tippett have shown, Hawks fans could be relatively bullish about Renouf, too.

201cm, 101 kg.

Can take a great pack mark, quick on the lead, and kicking is improving all the time.

Looks like he will be an absolute star.

Tippett and Sellar. Twin towers of the AFC's forward line.

Wiseby had him at 12 didnt he?

That sounds about right IIRC. Of course that doesnt mean he would have taken him that early, you could always have waited for 2nd round for Tippett IMO. Kurt was one of those gambles which clubs take often, it came off for the Crows on this occasion and good on them. He always had abit of something but we only ever saw it in flashy cameo at best.

Wisbey had Dangerfield at 35 last year. :D

Wayne Hughes said the Crows were after Grigg for their first pick because they thought Sellar would be gone. The Crows weren't prepared to risk taking Tippett with a first round selection when he was a raw footballer.

Yet the Pies wanted Hampson at ten if either of their first two picks were gone.

Hammer will be better than Tippett.

Grigga does remind me of a typical Crows flanker/mid.

I dont know about top 10.

The 2006 draft was so deep that there have been bargains for just about every team. Just look at Essendon, so far our last three picks in that draft, Alwyn Davey, Bachar Houli and Kyle Reimers have all shown more than our first three picks. Not that I have any doubts that our first three picks, Gumbles, Jetta and Hislop will all be fantastic players for us once injurys clear up.

I imagine supporters for other teams are all equally big on their late round picks from that draft. Just look at Westhoff for Port or Goldsack for the Maggies.
