What a load of shit. Riewoldt's influence on his team has been almost unrivaled this season. He took control of his struggling team and dragged it into the top 4 almost single handedly, which btw is real leadership and the reason he is captain of St Kilda. He was best on ground or close so many times in the second half of the season I lost count, and was pretty good in the first half. His influence on matches has been huge this year, hence why he is top 10 in all of the media awards and the BigFooty medal etc. His at times poor goalkicking is just one of many many aspects of his game and if that's your reason for not thinking he should be in the side well that is just ridiculous.

Cut the crap. More like the media have a love affair with him. Little lesson - never listen to football journos.

I see so every single media journalist and ex-player in the media have no idea about the game, whilst you are of course a genius. And you forgot the bit where I mentioned the BigFooty medal, yep that's right even idiots on the internet like you and me voted him into the top 10 players this year. You also forgot to mention the multiple BOG, dragging his team into top 4 bit of my post but I guess there is no rebutting that hey.

All this time I thought I was watching Riewoldt dominate football games week in week out, but it turns out that's not the case at all, it's all the media's love affair with him! Thanks for opening my eyes :thumbsu:

Did he dominate though?

I saw a fair bit of him this year..and I reckon I saw only him dominate one match. Conversely, I saw Brown dominate at least half the matches he played this year. Same with Richo. Even Lloyd in the sencond half of the year, was a dominant player (destined for a top 3 finish in the Bomber BnF after the move up the field).

Well there's your problem, you must have been watching the wrong matches if you think Riewoldt didn't dominate. Especially if you consider the second half of Lloyd's season dominant. From the first Freo game onward Round 18 and 19 were the only games he didn't dominate.

Just watched AFL Teams and David Parkin, Leigh Colbett and Liam Pickering all did their AA teams.

One of them picked Franklin on the half forward flank and the other two put Franklin in the pocket!

And to top that off that put Nick Riewoldt as the centre half forward!
This is when 8 other Key position forwards kicked more goals then him this season. Absolutely shocking!
Riewoldt doesn't even warrant a place in the side to begin with, let alone on the starting lineup.

If Franklin doesn't get the CHF position and Fevola doesn't get the FF position then this All-Australian selection is seriously flawed.

Buddy a CHF? hahah joke of the year! :D

A players performance for the season is not based on goals alone my friend. Riewoldt almost single handedly (sp?) dragged St.Kilda into 4th Position.

Open your other eye...(if you have one)

That's where he is always positioned?

Franklin is so far ahead of Riewoldt that it is not funny. It's not as if Franklin spends the entire game in the forward line either, he moves up field and gathers possessions.

Jonathan Brown & Matthew Pavlich both played in teams that didn't make the 8 and they both still managed to kick more goals then Riewoldt.

Don't bother posting when you don't know what you're talking about because if you're gonna argue that Riewoldt is better then Franklin then you're a moron.

Learn to read mate, he just said Franklin wasn't a CHF, which is fair enough. He might be named there each week but I think I read earlier in the year he got something like 70% of his touches inside the forward 50, so it's arguable whether he's a true CHF. Buddy's had a better year than Riewoldt but should be getting the FF spot imo.

p.s why do people fail to realise there is a lot more to being a forward than kicking goals? I suppose Bradshaw should be a shoe in for the 3rd tall spot then right? And Motlop and Milne should start in the forward pockets? Because they've kicked the most goals so clearly they are the best players right? Riewoldt only kicked 1 goal against North and 2 against Sydney, yet was still BOG both times. It just shows there is a lot more to being a forward than just kicking goals.

Agree 100%. The amount of times I have posted on here saying Riewoldt and ROK are two of the best forwards in the comp and people come back with the old "pity they can't kick straight" or "they don't kick enough goals". It makes me realise the amount of people who:
1. Have never played football
2. Watch the game with their eyes closed.

Re: How many '08 All-Australians for Geelong?

That is unbelieveable odds for 6 or less! $26? Crazy.

I ended up putting a tenner down on this last night.
I still think Sportingbet must be somewhat 'in the know', and i think we'll end up with 7 players in the team, but in hindsight i just couldn't have a small piece of the $26.

this sought of nonsense is just stretching it.

Nonsense like this?

didn't win a 1v1 all night long

I recall in the first quarter when we were actually winning the ball, he had Scarlett on ice on quite a few leads and even beat him body on body a few times, including grabbing a nice one hander when the two players were side by side.

Please don't go around lying to inflate Scarlett's performance on Fevola. He did a good job, but Fevola had a chance to kick a few more in the first quarter and the ball didn't even go down there for the majority of the match. Did Scarlett comprehensively beat Fevola or did your midfield beat Fevola? Scarlett didn't have too much influence in the match.

The thing is though, in terms of what you're talking about, Riewoldt wasn't even the best in the competition. Pavlich was better.

And when 2 forwards basically kick 100 goals in the season then they should be given the two noted key positions on the All-Australian lineup.

Fevola - Full Forward
Franklin - Centre Half Forward

Wonder if it will be leaked early this year
Interesting, going on Sportingbet's odds of 26.0 (initially) for six or less Geelong players you'd think they must know something we don't.

Last year K-Rock reported Geelong would receive all nine (when I thought the notion was laughable) but they were spot on.

First of all - Im not being a "one-eyed Collingwood supporter"

But

An article in todays Herald Sun by Mike Sheahan, claiming to believe that Collingwood will not be represented in tonights team. Stating Medhurst will be unlucky to miss, due to being behind Boomer, ROK and Stevie Johnson. Surely not.

I agree with Boomer, but the others? Are they just ahead of him due to their names? ROK very inconsistent this year. SJ solid but not as influential as last year nor as "Steak Knives" was this year.

Or have i been sucked into the hype of Medhurst as he wears the black and white stripes?

Steve Johnson is a lock for HFF. He has been almost as good as last year and no one has clearly passed him. He's also been more consistent. Last year he made it after missing the first 5-6 weeks.

I'd have Medhurst in front of O'Keefe though. I just can't have someone named as a forward who hasn't had a big impact on the scoreboard or something else massive going for him.

I guess I was sucked into the black and white hype. As i have just looked into the stats a bit more ( yeah flat out in the office )

Small Forwards

Boomer 25 goals averaging 24.7 touches
ROK 23 goals averaging 19.6 touches
Steve Johnson 50 goals averaging 19.8 touches
Medders 50 goals averaging 15.7
Milne 59 goals 13.4 touches

SJ as stated by cat empire LOCK. My bad. Close between Boomer and Medhurst, Boomer to get the nod. As he is a quoted chance for the Brownlow, and i dont see him getting a spot in the ablett bartell corey/cooney/judd midfield.

Unlucky Milne, but i detest him so he can jam it.
