Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Some interesting stats from our mock so far compared to last years draft which highlights the strengths and weaknesses of this years draft class.

So far, in our mock (after 51 picks) the following numbers have been taken for each position:
QB 3
RB 5
FB 0
WR 7
TE 2
OT 9
OG 1
C 1

DE 7 (Groves is listed as a DE, does project to a OLB)
DT 6
LB 3
CB 6
S 2

Compare that to last year after 51 picks:
QB 5
RB 4
FB 0
WR 9
TE 2
OT 4
OG 3
C 0

DE 3
DT 4
LB 8
CB 4
S 5

What i can tell from this is a) i am bored! but b) that this years draft is much stronger in the trenches. 9 OTs already gone as opposed to 4 last year and 13 defensive linemen gone as opposed to 7 last year. It also shows that this year is significantly weaker in the LB and S spots, with only 5 players coming from those areas so far as compared to a total of 13 at the same stage in the draft last year.

Basically this is a good year if you want to solidify your lines as opposed to getting a LB or S.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

As per an earlier PM by Woodson, he said to give him 5 hours to make his pick and if he hadnt done so by then to pick for him, after consultation with gg, the Steelers select...

RB Matt Forte, Tulane

Just to chip in why....Steelers imo are gonna go offense in this draft. They need WR help, and they definitely need RB help with the 'concerns' about Parker and the lack of depth generally there. In the end, the running game is their 'thing' so they probably address RB in the early rounds. Matt Forte is one of several good possible suggestions.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

geez I dunno about the Steelers taking Matt Forte...nothing against him but the Steelers already have Parker, Davenport and have just signed Mewelde Moore. If I was choosing I'd still focus on the o-line....I know they got an OT in the first, but they've just lost All-Pro Faneca and who's going to replace him? Build the line and if necessary grab a RB later/if at all. One player I have in mind is OG Chilo Rachal from USC who would fit in nicely at Pitt...huge size, extremely powerful, nasty attitude, great in the run game. Heck I wouldn't mind if Dallas took him. Interested to see what Woodson thinks (he should be back online Thursday).

i actually was going to take Rachal, but pmed gg to get his thoughts, he said Forte, i'd prefer he pick then me as i do hate the steelers!

Hmmm, apparently Coach Tomlin is returning to his junkyard ways (previous clubs) to scrounge for treasure (band aid scraps)

from Pittsburgh gazette >>

His name is Mewelde (mu-WELL-dee) Moore, a running back from the Minnesota Vikings. He signed a three-year contract with the Steelers as an unrestricted free agent that will pay him $4.95 million and include a $1.35 million signing bonus.

Moore (5 feet 11, 209 pounds) will compete to become the team's third-down back and also to return punts and kickoffs.

"He has things that are potentially attractive to us," said coach Mike Tomlin, who witnessed Moore first hand when he was the Vikings' defensive coordinator in 2006.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Sorry to keep you guys waiting, big day...
I'll post my pick soon.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

With the 55th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the Tennessee Titans select RED BRYANT DT TEXAS A&M

At 6-5 and 328 lbs Bryant should be a solid NFL run stuffer. He'll give the Titans some more depth at DT, which they need, especially if another team throws the big bucks at Haynesworth next offseason.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

With the 56th pick of the NFL Draft Seattle selects CB, Tracy Porter, Indiana

After getting OG Branden Albert in the first round, Seattle's attention moves to DT, CB, and WR in the second. DT is probably their highest need, but no-one offers any value, and WR is a similar story. So its off to the corners, and Patrick Lee, Justin King and Tracy Porter are all considered. Both Porter and King can also contribute on special teams and in a close run battle Tracy Porter comes off the boards to compete with Kelly Jennings for the starting role at the Seahawks. Jennings hasn't really set the world on fire at CB, in 2007 he started 15 games and didn't register a single interception.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Andre Woodson has fallen in everybody's books it seems, wasnt he earmarked as Chicago's first pick for a while and i wouldn't think the Chargers would go for Cherilus when Kenny Phillips was still on the board

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

It's time to get the show rolling again guys.

All those Easter eggs must nearly be digested now, so lets get the draft back on!

Miami (Lenny Briscoe) is on the clock.

Why? Personally it's a toss up...they have no projected RT at the moment and whilst Phillips is the best of a poor safety class and is a Chargers area of need I wouldn't spend a 1st rounder on one.

From what i've seen they have a bit of faith in Jeromey Clary starting at right tackle, even enough to cut Shane Olivea. But everyone's entitled to their opinions
