Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

Ive watched a lot of Tebow. He's grossly underrated as a pocket QB. He does all the right things very well---looks off safeties, doesnt lock onto receivers at all, goes thru his progressions quickly and decisively, and has excellent accuracy (including all those tough throws -- out-routes and fade routes) where arm strength is required. He puts the ball in the right place for the WR all the time.

Tebow is a Steve Young in the making. He'll no doubt require some time as a rookie learning and will have struggles, but you're talking about the same exact kinda leader and great man/intangibles that Steve Young possessed coming out of college.

Born leader, born to rise, born greatness.

Born leaders are GROSSLY underrated I think, especially with all the crap about throwing mechanics, footwork etc. Before Vince Young went insane, the guy just knew how to win football games. He was rated behind Leinart et al but no matter what happened, he'd find a way to win. I see a lot of that in Tebow, but he'll slip because of these questions.

I heard Jax are keen as mustard on him, to keep the whole Florida, Jesus Loving thing going and replace Garrard.

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

I read that too. They want to take him to boost attendance more than anything.

What is it with American athletes and God?

He doesnt throw the ball for you Timmy.

Keep an eye out for Jeff Tuel in the future. First starting freshman QB at Washington State sisnce Drew Bledsoe.

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

I read that and thought you meant Steve Young for a minute and was very confused.

These last couple of pages have been very informative.

I second that Marcus, very, very interesting and insightful stuff, thanks!:thumbsu:

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

One of my mates told me that even though they are only allowed to suit up 60 or so players on game day, that the big time colleges have stables of like 200 players on football scholarships, is that true?

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

I believe the limit on scholarships for the big schools is around 100 (a bit lower I think.) So no.

Though there always exists the possibility of a walk-on.

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

Updated Associated Press (AP) Rankings:

1. Florida 4-0
2. Texas 4-0
3. Alabama 4-0
4. LSU 4-0
5. Boise State 4-0 :D
 Just need Texas to lose and Boise State may be the first top 2 team to not make the championship game. (because of the conferance they're in)

Bring on a knockout tournoment for the title

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

The game on oneHD is amazing - everything happening in the last 5 minutes between Georgia and LSU. Georgia scores, then LSU, then Georgia and now LSU again with 40 seconds to go.

That was one manic game, wasn't it? It seemed for the first 3 quarters neither team could get their act together. And a running QB, wtf? Did I hear and see right, one team had 2 quarterbacks? 1 running and 1 passing? Awesome!:D

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

I agree with you on Scott shiny.

About time he started getting into endzone too.

The disappointing aspect of the finish were the two bogus calls for excessive celebration. Relying on the reply for the INT sort of took the gloss on the finish too. How they called that out when the official was right ther has me stuffed.

The celebration calls though were pretty lame.

OK, I'm glad it wasn't just me misunderstanding something about College Football. Why have they cracked down so hard on celebrations? You're not allowed to point to yourself or a finger in the air, or something like that?

Also agree on Scott, great run. LaFell? looked like a good receiver as well.

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

I'm 50:50 about the celebration crackdowns. For instance, in soccer, cricket, etc, the over-celebrating is really nauseating. While in Am.Football they've probably cut it out too much, gone too anal about it. But I generally agree with cutting down celebrations in sport. In the past all the organized dancing in the endzones and other endzone gimmicks was absurd.

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

Yeah I don't disagree GG but these two calls were over the top. Way over the top.

In a close game you can't expect players to be robots.

There was nothing excessive about either - in fact in the circumstances I thought both were exactly what you want to see from players. No taunting, no dancing, nothing that anyone would find offensive.

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

Yeah, I agree that those calls were over the top, really they were nothing at all. Very tame. Just they've gone from one extreme to the other---from endzone discos to endzone auschwitzes. They need to find the middle-ground.

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

While those two calls or three matter of fact, were atrocious; as an LSU fan I'm not complaining.

Those 20? yards we received from penalties on the final drive were IMO the difference between being 5-0 and 4-1. Having that O-line that we have and JJ at QB, driving 80 yards in 1minute was very little chance. Jefferson has absolutely no confidence atm and would not have been able to drive the ball. In fact, the call on the Scott TD run was a pass play initially but JJ insisted otherwise. Doesn't leave me with much faith in the bloke.

It completely sucked, actually...

That celebration penalty - Argh!:mad::mad::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

I assume shiny will be watching the Tigers/Gators game coming up on OneHD?

Tebow's been cleared to play and if you ever wanted to see if this bloke is up to being a top NFL prospect, you'll see it in this game.

Should be a great game, looking forward to it. :thumbsu:

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

watch tebow in the pocket itself. looking off safeties, going thru progressions, the execution of his passes.

that's the most important part. taking a snap from under center and dropping back etc can be taught/refined.

Sure have been mate:thumbsu:

Not a bad game so far but offside penalties are killing us. Also, need to stop the run.

Tebow playing well after coming back from concussion as well. On top of what GG said, Tebow moves so well in the pocket; Rodgers like. ;)

Re: 2009-2010 College Football Discussion

LSU have had several 3rd down stops taken away by penalties. I think Florida are going to pull away soon....LSU haven't looked like scoring.
