Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

I don't know why I bother with these every year, they never seem to be anywhere near the mark. :D

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

I dont know whether to laugh of feel insulted that you have said that the Meloburne Demons will be more successful next year than the Sydney Swans. Our list may be aging but we have still got alot of talent which a dual brownlow medalist and quite afew all australians. Dont discount Sydney yet as we also have some youngsters coming through who may surprise you.
Still too many of your key players are aging and you cannot replace them with fresh talent and expect results straight off.

Anyway here is my go...

1 Geelong
2 Hawthorn
3 Kangaroos
4 Carlton
5 Bulldogs
6 Brisbane
7 Adelaide
8 St Kilda

9 Collingwood
10 Richmond
11 Fremantle
12 Sydney
13 Essendon
14 Port Adelaide
15 Melbourne
16 West Coast

I feel bad for Richmond. But they have a recent habit of finishing 9th then dropping down the ladder again the following season.

Premiers = Kangaroos (against Hawthorn)
Minor Premiers = Geelong
Brownlow = Hodge

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

I think everyone is rating carlton a bit to high, geelong will not slide, will just get better with egan hopefully making a good return, hawthorn will be right up there though. Here's how i see it,

Geelong- Premiers tooo gooood!
Hawthorn- Will come close to winning the flag
Western Buldogs- Will improve once again but still not as good as top 2
Brisbane- Brown to resign and young players to keep developing
Richmond- Another pre-season to young guns will make richmond great
Carlton- Similar to richmond but need to fill ruck and CHF holes
North Melbourne- Dont think there older players can have another great year
St kilda- may finish higher, may finsih lower hard to tell
Collingwood- depends if there young players step up could finsih top 4, but dont rate them
Essedon- Could make the 8 but hard to tell with a few players to old
Port Adelaide- will improve
Sydney- will slide big time with ageing list
Fremantle- will improve a bit but still haven't got the playing list
Adelaide- will slide big time as well with ageing list
West Coast- haven't got much experince left and kerr will leave
Melbourne- needs to do a carlton, richmond and develop

Surprised how many people have not rated north next year. The only older player that has really made a difference to our team at the moment is boomer. Otherwise it has been all our young players coming good that has made the diference.

Gavin Uquart, Campbell, Thomas, as well a few i haven't listed
Then we have our middle players
Wells, Hale, Harding, Pratt, Ferrito

We also have edwards and macintosh coming back into the side.

Retiring Grant who has been out of form
Thommo might still be around but will be in much better shape next year after a full pre season to recover
Simpson probably has another year or two and will continue to get some good clearences. I see us improving for the next 5 years.

That said my predictor next year

1. Geelong -- With Bartel, Ablett and selwood they will continue to dominate.
2. Hawks -- They should be able to hold onto top 4 next year with a few less injuries and a continuing dominance from mitchell, hodge, rioli and franklyn.
3. North Melbourne -- As above
4. Brisbane -- Their midfield might loose lapin but with adcock, black, johntson all dominating the middle with brown and bradshaw fireing i think top 4 is not out of question (As long as brown stays in the side)
5. Adelaide -- I dont know that they deserve 5th but i dont see any other team looking like they could fit in this spot at the moment
6. Carlton -- They should make the finals for the first time in a while next year. A midfield that has judd in it cant be ignored and thats not mentioning the draft picks that should start maturing as well.
7. Bulldogs -- Been good this year? Yes finishing the year strongly ?? No. I havent rated em all year and wont be rating them that high next year.
8. Collingwood -- This was a coin flip between essendon, sydney and the saints and collingwood.. the pies won. (I accidently missed a team)

9. Richmond -- They will secure this spot again i think
10. Essendon
11. Saints
12. Sydney
13. West Coast
14. Port
15. Fremantle
16. Melbourne

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

Lmao at all the spuds in this thread who know nothing about football or more specifically the Crows list, claiming Adelaide are going to be near bottom next year, let alone bottom 8. Here is a newsflash, Adelaide has improved from last year to this year despite all the retirements and trades last year.

Nah man it's great, esspecially all the Victorians with us well below teams like Richmond and Carlton. Just repeat after me "The Crows have an aging list, totally reliant upon Goodwin, Edwards and Mcleod, no young talent whatsoever, will be also-runs for a few years", hell you should know that by now! We've been hearing it for the last 4 years.

Without having put a lot of thought into it, here's my guess
1. Hawthorn
2. Geelong
3. Kangaroos
4. Bulldogs
5. Crows
6. Carlton
7. Collingwood
8. Brisbane
