Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

No surprise to see most of the Collingwood fans putting Carlton low down. Still feeling a bit sore from both of the beatings this year?
If our backline was terrible... why couldn't your stripey mob score against it?

If your backline was any good, you would have made the finals. We beat Geelong, doesn't make us better then them, just like Carlton with Collingwood. :thumbsu:

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

I have some pretty bold predictions:

  • Hawthorn to finish top by %
  • Brisbane to have a dramatic turn around and finish top 4
  • Carlton and Richmond to sneak in.
  • Collingwood gradually miss out
  • Sydney and Adelaide both have a similar season to Fremantle and lose many games by under 10.
  • West Coast finish bottom

2.Geelong
3. Bulldogs
4. Brisbane
5.Kangaroos
6.St.Kilda
7.Carlton

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1: Geelong (won't slow down any time soon)
2: North Melbourne (have injeced some quality youth - Hansen, Urquhart, plus the astounding improvement in the likes of Petrie)
3: Hawthorn (good list, will be in the top four for a while yet)
4: Collingwood (thereabouts again)
5: Adelaide (we keep writing them off, but Craig keeps getting this mob into the finals)
6: Port Adelaide (lost a ton of close ones this year, not much much needed to get back into the 8. Only concern is whether Williams still has the attention of the playing group - á la Leigh Matthews)
7: Carlton (reliant of Fev for winning scores, but no reason why he won't kick another 80 or so. Murpphy, Gibbs all class, kruezer will benefit from his debut year)
8: Richmond (hopefully we can sneak in...I think we will. for the first time in a long time, I think we'll stay there for a while too)

9: St Kilda (good enough list to be hanging around the perimeter)
10: Western Bulldogs (will surprise to see them this low, but this is based only on a hunch with no solid basis whatsover)
11: Fremantle (similar to Port - lost a heap of close ones - only need to win half of those and they are thereabouts. The coach worries me though.)
12: Essendon (treading water)
13: Brisbane (rumblings at the Gabba that Leigh Matthews is not the flavour of the month among the playing group. If he stays for the final year of his contract, the Lions will slide)
14: Sydney (Roos says the Swans can't rebuild due to the cut-throat marketplace. Now he has no choice)
15: Melbourne (few more years down the foot of the table. I like the way Bailey is going about it though)
16: West Coast (likely departure of Kerr will hurt. Won't stay down for longer than a couple of years, but will do it very tough in 2009)

Official Thread - 2009 Final Eight

I am already looking ahead to 2009. I don't care about this season anymore.

What teams will make the Eight in 2009?

Top Eight
In no particular order:

1. Geelong - still the best list/team

2. Carlton - will get a couple of players and improve their list

3. Collingwood - always around the mark

4. Richmond - will improve with their current crop

5. Essendon - will get over their shocking injuries and make it in 2009 - old players are gone

6. Hawthorn - lay down misere to make the eight

7. North Melbourne - a good list

8. Western Bulldogs - still have a good list

To just miss out (9-12)
St Kilda - now an aging list
Brisbane - ditto
Adelaide - no key position forwards
Freemantle - should improve after a disastrous 2008

Destined for the bottom 4
Sydney - aging list/end of an era -gone
Melbourne - hopeless
Pt Adelaide - aging list - end of an era - gone
West Coast - good players have gone - gone

Top Eight
In order:

1. Geelong - Powehouse still

2. Hawthorn - Building but not enough, KP backmen will cost them in the end.

3. Collingwood - I dont know why, will be our 4th year of finals. Just think this year was the year to have a good look and clean out before the real chase begins.

4. Bulldogs - Still need KPP, will fall short

5. North - Solid list

6. St Kilda - New blood and ideas will have the saints having a good year

7. Brisbane - Still around the mark

8. Adelaide - Last year of finals for awhile

To just miss out (9-12)
Richmond
Port
Fremantle
Essendon

Destined for the bottom 4

The top 3 should stay the same for next year.
Carlton and North battle it out for 4th, but Carlton will have a better draw.
Richmond and Collingwood should make the bottom half of the eight.
Brisbane and St Kilda to battle for 8th.
Adelaide just miss out.
Port will improve a little as will West Coast.
Fremantle will likely disapoint again.
Sydney's list is good, but getting really old. Could be injury ravaged next year.
Melbourne and Essendon to fight for spoon.

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1. Geelong (strong again)
2. Collingwood (if we get our best team on the park for most of the year we should get top 2)
3. Hawthorn (strong again with the twin towers up forward)
4. North Melbourne (again up there)
5. Western Bulldogs (fall off the pace slightly, need tall forwards)
6. Sydney (cant see them dropping off just yet)
7. Carlton (hate to say this, but they should make the top 8)
8. Richmond (either 8th or 9th next year)

9. St. Kilda (struggle their way thru the year to just miss out)
10. Adelaide (aging list, lack of tall forwards)
11. Fremantle (improve slightly but still crap)
12. Brisbane (drop off the pace, injuries will hit them)
13. Essendon (young list that will need time to improve)
14. West Coast (big cleanout at end of season, will be competitve)
15. Port Adelaide (crap)
16. Melbourne (crap, no good news to come out of there for the next 3 years)
