Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

yeh i think its early but well here goes.

1. Hawthorn (Overtaken Geelong in my opinion)
2. Geelong (Still a very strong force, will hardly lose)
3. Collingwood (On the rise with a good mixture of experience and young talent)
4. Western Bulldogs (Drop off a bit but still with enough good players to be hard to beat)
5. Richmond (Fit, Young, Fast and with Richo in fine form will be very suprising)
6. Carlton (Similar to Richmond only maybe a year behind without a second solid forward option)
7. Essendon (With a fit Lucas and Llyod and a full list of young players, will be able to beat most sides)
8. Kangaroos (Still hard to beat even with a pretty average list because of a great attitude)
9. Adelaide (Slowly going downhill, need to rebuild)
10. Brisbane (Still in rebuilding stage but signs look good)
11. Sydney (Premiership hangover definatly over and needs to rebuild or else bottom end finishes will follow)
12. St. Kilda (A side with superstars not fulfilling expectations, going nowhere fast)
13. Port Adelaide (Starting to rebuild, won't finish in contention)
14. West Coast (Some good young players but not much to look forward to at the moment, rebuilding stage)
15. Melbourne (Still rebuilding and most players are young and inexperienced. Not a dispointing year just without many ladder success but on-field should show emerging side)
16. Fremantle (Other then Rhys Palmer future looking grim with Pav still dominating but he wont be there forever. Rebuilding)

Story of the year option - I like it!! :thumbsu:

Me - A coach to be sacked before Round 8!

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

9. Adelaide (Slowly going downhill, need to rebuild)

Yeah we've been steadily going downhill so slowly that we actually turned around and dropped from 8th to 5th.

Perhaps we wouldn't need to rebuild so badly if we had turned over 1/3 of our list last year...oh wait...we did...

Crows are a lock for the top 8 next year.

Nearly made the top 4 without a steady forward, next year will have hentschel, walker, working with tippett and gill with maric and moran as options to rotate through, a fit porplyzia and a regular dangerfield available to crumb and our forward line will suddenly look dangerous. Mackay, Vince, VB, Reilly, Knights, thompson to power the midfield with Bock, Rutten, Stiffy, Stevens

Thats 18 players and the one who has been in the worst form is Johncock! What's more only one of them is over 25 (Scott Stevens is 26 and incidently shares my birthday all be it 3 years earlier)

Not included in that list

Young Players
Andy Otten
James Sellar
Jarrhan Jacky
Bryce Campbell
Jonathon Griffin
Richard Douglas

THe players above would be enough to play finals (and indeed will be the core of our next flag) but then we have our experienced players in

Goodwin
Mcleod
Edwards
Burton*
Doughty
Massie
Shirley

But yeah, write the Crows off again..

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

Well done to all putting their knackers on the line prior to draft / trade week (in particular). A few big trades could alter this big time, for example if Collingwood pick up Cousins, be inclined to move them up one or two spots. If O'Keefe is traded for picks only, drop Sydney one or two, if they trade him for players that would slot straight in and fill a gap however. If Kerr was traded for 2 picks, drop the Eagles, keep him and 2009 should be better than it would with two youngsters.

Anyway, here goes.....

1. Geelong
2. Hawthorn
3. Adelaide
4. West Coast
5. Carlton
6. Western Bulldogs
7. Richmond
8. St Kilda

9. Fremantle
10. Collingwood
11. Essendon
12. Sydney
13. Brisbane
14. North Melbourne
15. Port Adelaide
16. Melbourne

Premiers: Hawthorn
Runners Up: Geelong
Brownlow: Dean Cox
Coleman: Brendon Fevola
Rising Star: Yarran (West Coast)

So......I reckon it will be a logjam between about 3 and 15, and a team(s) could make the Top 4 with a record low number of wins. I'll retain faith in the remaining premiership players at West Coast, and think if they get over all the injuries that hit them this year, Masten has a break out year along with at least one of the new draftees and Kennedy hits his straps in year two at the club, they could climb.

Only two reservations about Hawthorn. Firstly, can they repeat the same fanatical desire they showed late this year to repeat now they have achieved a flag? More likely they will than won't, but could be a danger and they need that level of work ethic to be successful. Secondly, a whole summer for opposition clubs to look at ways of countering the cluster, and / or implementing it themselves.

While i was happy to see Hawthorn win for Crawf this year, I'm already fearing what an angry Geelong is going to do to the rest of the competition next year. I especially don't envy who ever gets to play them in Round 1. They are going to come out and smash someone by 200 pts just to prove a pt.

Also, Congrats to anyone who had North in the top 6, although we stopped playing good footy in Round 21, I've spent all year laughing at all the "experts", 90% of which had North finishing in the bottom 4
