Geelong is still the team to beat.
North Melbourne will probably make the eight again. I have no idea how or why, but …
West Coast will not tank.
Hawthorn to have the biggest hangover yet. I’m being generous and cautious however.
Sydney will be the biggest losers with Adelaide following.
I have probably overrated my team a little again but I'm allowed too!!! (sticks tongue out to JD)

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1. geelong--{will bounce back}
2. hawthorn--{second best imo}
3. western bulldogs--{no one else looks good in this position}
4. st. kilda--{probably won't happen as they were lucky to be here this year}
5. collingwood--{solid finals team, should be good in 2009}
6. North Melbourne--{can win games even if they were under-maned, shinboners}
7. Carlton--{i think this is fair}
8. Richmond--{they have to make the eight}
9. Sydney--{this is where its hard- placing regulars of finals out of the eight, sydney are a bit old}
10. Adelaide--{same as above except it would not suprise me if they make the eight at all}
11. brisbane--{cant see them making the eight if they didn't this year, i also see coaching difficulties arrising in 2009 for them}
12. Essendon--{i know i will look hateful here but i don't see them passing any of the above teams}
13. port adelaide--{could go higher just not into the eight}
14. Fremantle--{they could go a fraction higher, should stay low though}
15. West Coast--{they are a good team and will get some more good picks before GC17 and tasmania dominate the draft. i think it's smart}
16. Melbourne--{sorry, but you will have some rough days ahead}

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

Geelong - Best team in the comp by far
Hawthorn - Another terrific season. Back to back highly probable
W Bulldogs - Good H & A but will fail in the finals
Sydney - Their last good season before their veterans finish. No to flag.
Collingwood- Value for money, but they'll drop games to crap teams
St Kilda - Needs to learn to beat the good teams
Adelaide - Ever consistent. May bat deep in September
Brisbane - Will just make the finals with 12 wins. Still reek of class.

Richmond - Will start the season like a rocket, but fall off dramatically
North Melb - Will beat the rubbish teams, have a horror draw in 2nd half
Port Adel - Will learn to win at AAMI again. 10-11 wins likely
Carlton - Why would they make finals this year if they missed last year?
Fremantle - Massive turnover of list. Will win 1 or 2 more games in 09
Essendon - Will win some games in style, but tend to go off the rails.
West Coast - Clearly the 2nd worst team in the league
Melbourne - Would be negligent to win more than 4 games.

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1. Geelong - Still the team that will win the most games but could be found out again if it makes the GF without a gun forward

You would think it will start Favourite

2. Hawthorn - Will improve and be hard to beat in the GF no matter who it might be

3. Adelaide - Expecting improvement in consistency which will find it this high on the ladder and with some luck could play in a GF

4. Western Bulldogs - Won the close games last year without winning the important ones but has enough class to still finish top 4

5. Carlton - Will start their decade of finals appearances this year although lose some games when it shouldnt mainly though a poor defence

6. Richmond - Will win more games than it loses but not finals competitive at this stage , last gasp for Wallace

7. St Kilda - The most underperforming team in the AFL talentwise should still make the 8 and who knows from there

8. Port Adelaide - Dissaponting last year and should win enough games to make the 8 like its talent on the park suggests

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

9. Collingwood - Consistently plays above themselves but i think that is going to change this year due to a lack of ball winners and KPP,s

10. Brisbane - Will still win games but not enough to make the 8

11. North Melbourne - Expect it to slide this year as the shinboner myth wont help them this year

12. Essendon - Same as my own team Melbourne but with more class and less clangers

13. Sydney - Expect you guys to slide badly this year but will still be dangerous on their day

14. Fremantle - Will not learn from last year and when the tail stops wagging the dog only then will the penny drop for Mark Harvey

15. West Coast - Dead in the water side i doubt will win many games

16. Melbourne - My team i expect will have less blow outs although will lose most games due to clangers by hand and foot

GF - Geelong
Norm Smith - Gary Ablett Jnr
Brownlow - Luke Hodge
Coleman - Brendan Fevola
Rising Star - Rohan Bail

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

Way too early, but here goes.

1. Geelong
2. Hawthorn
3. Western Bulldogs
4. North Melbourne
5. Richmond
6. St Kilda
7. Essendon
8. Brisbane

9. Collingwood
10. Adelaide
11. Sydney
12. Port
13. Carlton
14. West Coast
15. Fremantle
16. Melbourne

Geelong and Hawthorn are pretty much certainties. While one or both may drop, you'd be foolish to try and predict that.

The Dogs and North I think are pretty clear cut. Both should be a couple of game clear of Richmond. I think the lack of a key forward will hurt the Dogs, but with another year into Grant et al. they might just wing it. North will always be there or thereabouts.

Richmond are my big improver. Even if they don't get Cousins, or he doesn't give them much, I think that they have too much talent to fall away. Terry saves his job.

St Kilda will be thereabouts again, but the lack of a CHF to free Riewoldt up will hurt them.

Essendon and Brisbane should both improve this year. Essendon with a better run with injuries, and another year under the new coach will improve on last year, and should get some consistancy. Brisbane will have Dalziell playing from the start, as well as Rich into the middle, which means that Travis Johnstone will be able to play forward more, and make the forwardline less two-dimensional. Aaron Cornelius could help that is small bursts as well.

Collingwood don't have enough class around the ground, and grunt on the ball to make the eight. They have some great players like Pendlebury, Davis, Didak et al., but will miss Scott Burns' attack on the ball and leadership, as well as Reece Shaw's (yes, I mean that) gut running off half back. Unless Mick frees Heath Shaw up, clubs will shut down their only run from the backline with relative ease, given that Harry O'Brien will need to help fill the void left by Wakelin's retirement.

Adelaide have a very interesting list. They have some great older players (McLeod, Burton et al.) and some great kids (Dangerfield, Tippet and the like) but they don't have much in the middle. I think that they will drop off for one or two years as the older players wind down, but will pick back up when the kids start to develop. They are the classic example of how to build a list without tanking, but will drop for a couple of years before that happens.

Sydney have some good kids like Veszpremi, but don't have enough. They will start to drop off as Hall, O'Loughlin, Kirk et al. get older but aren't replaced.

Port will improve, but will struggle for talls as Brogan, Lade and Tredrea all head towards retirement. They are the real enigma, as they could finish anywhere.

Carlton still have too many gaps in their list. Their top 6 or so are brilliant, but from there, it really crumbles away. A serious injury to Fev, and they are genuine contenders for a spot in the bottom two.

Fremantle, West Coast and Melbourne are all improving with some great kids, but still need to develop their kids a bit more before they begin to climb the ladder.

I found it really hard to pick an order for each eight, especially the bottom eight. I knew which eight teams I thought would make the finals, and which eight teams I thought would miss, but I struggled with the order. Any one of the teams from 9-14 could make the finals and I wouldn't be shocked.
