Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

Jeez he butchers the kicks he gets. Rookie pick for mine.

Hardly. And this isn't a highlights package, where any player can look good. This is just one game, showing every single play he was involved in.

He will not be a rookie pick. Clubs have seen the success of Liam Jurrah, and are kicking themselves for letting him slip through. He will go in the national draft.

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

Just quietly has anyone seen Liam Patrick play!

Kid could turn out to be something special, considering he has most likely never picked up a dumbell in his life, or had specialist training programes etc.

Possible pick 33.

I have seen him play a couple of times and he is overrated only about 185 so he is not going to play ruck in the AFL and he isnt skilful enough to play anywhere else.

Has a few athletic qualities and thats about it.

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

He will go in the national draft.

If he does, it will be late. Very much a rookie pick for mine. Has some good attributes, but is just as likely to be a bust as he'll be a star. Will go early in the rookie draft.

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

& who would people prefer out of Lucas, Bastinac, Tapscott, Stevens :thumbsu:

1. Lucas (if available I will shoot someone if we don't pick him)
2. Melksham (I know he is not on your list)
3. Batsinac (I do feel 10 is paying over the odds, might be there at 24)
4. Christensen (I do feel he has the most scope for improvement in the draft- plenty of X Factor)
5. Stevens (blue collar mid, a safe choice)
6. Tapscott (for mine is a bit ovverated but he has one great thing- his booming kick)

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

If we picked him up as a rookie, it would be intresting to watch what the club could do to him.
His natural athelticism if playing in ruck, would allow him to get into space.
liken him to paddy ryder in a way, but far less classier and all that.

who is a realistic player that could fall to pick 10 that can win his own ball, good delivery on his kick and can pop up with a goal at times?
does anyone fit onto this category?
Paddy's borderline height for a ruck. This Patrick is 185cm... that's flanker height. And pretty lightly built.
He'd wanna be bloody, bloody good.

Which clubs are kicking themselves Liam Jurrah "slipped" through? He was taken at the first possible pick by Melbourne!

I'd be surprised if a club used a ND pick on Liam Patrick, but good luck to them if they do. No chance to be in contention at any of our picks.

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

Pick 10: Melksham/ Tapscott/ Bastinac
Pick 24: Carlisle/ Bastinac/ Stevens/ Panos/ Christinsen/ Griffiths/ Duncan/ Crichton/ Gysberts
Pick 26: Carlisle/ Bastinac/ Stevens/ Panos/ Christinsen/ Griffiths/ Duncan/ Crichton/ Gysberts
Pick 33: Gysberts/ Crichton/ Taylor/ Gawn

*Not interested in Ball or Fitzpatrick.
Ball is a complete tosser, let him go to Collingwood, he will last 2-3 years and be finished like Woewodin. He is an injured dud who can't run, or kick further than 30 meters. Absolute waste of time! Let him go to Collingwood!
Fitzpatrick can't dispose of the ball, can run atleast which makes him better than Ball, he is an athlete as opposed to a footballer and with Ryder don't need another athlete.*

Just on Fitzpatrick he is not simply an athlete. Yes his kicking ranges from sometimes ok to bloody terrible but he does know how to play and he does postion himself around the ground reasonably well for a young ruckman.

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

would like to see us chase players with plenty of pace & good skills that should suit our gameplan if we can get it right:

Pick 10 - Jetta - could be perfect replacemnt for Lovett & you never know might help Leroy find some more confidence (also meant to be close with Paddy)
Pick 24 - Bastinac - thought he looked like the classiest kid in the TAC grandfinal sort of in the mould of Pendlebury & would like to have him delivering the ball into Gumbleton (if he stays on the park)
Pick 26 - Tapscott - tough inside midfielder and a great kick is something we lack so if he slips this far we would have to take him
Pick 33 - Christenson - according to the herald sun cyril rioli like, related to long & rioli & massive essendon fan, is enough for me to say we whould take him

would only take Ball to upset Collingwood & given our list age and potential window would rather take a young kid who can kick and more upside

You personally know him do you? He's actually a very genuine and nice bloke who was given far too little opportunity at St. Kilda this year.

His reservedness in not talking to clubs other than Collingwood does not immediately see him classified as a tosser, you douchebag.

He is harder at the ball than 98% of players in the AFL, and it is remarkable how his game has changed since he first started- coming into the AFL, it was completely structured around his pace and skills. OP has restricted him, but he is still an amazing footballer whose positives inordinately outweigh any potential negatives.

Ball would absolutely bleed for any club that he is with, yet somehow Lyon omitted him from a far than complete St. Kilda outfit, and suffered the consequences. The commitment that Ball gives is extraordinary, so spare me the unsophisticated bullshit outcries of a moron who has no clue or credibility.

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

I can share news that One opposition club have Moore going to Essendon at 10 in their current mock. From my limited contacts I can say that the Moore/Essendon connection is pretty strong which is similar to the Myers/Essendon connection a couple of years ago. I rate Moore really highly which people would have ascertained from my phantom.
I am going thursday and will report on any buzz that I get out of the night however my realistic hopes for our picks on thursday are:
Pick 10- Daniel Talia
Pick 24- Callum Bartlett/Luke Ball
Pick 26- Allen Christensen/Luke Ball
Pick 33- Anthony Long

I like the idea of one more real quality tall on our list and then get a couple of decent midfielders. I really like Anthony Long and I think he will be exciting as well as strengthening the LOng family bond at Essendon.
I dont think we will use our last draft pick until preseason draft but Dylan Grimes might be around in the late 50s and I think he could be okay. If Ball was available at 24/ 26 you would have to seriously consider him however I think Melbourne at 18 will swoop.

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

Well, lets take a look at young Andrew.

Seems to be a nice size, late 180's?

Takes a very good overhead mark and looks rather springy. Appears to be quite athletic.

Not sure about his left-side, does he have one? Preferred seems to be solid with not as much penetration as a Tapscott. Melksham appears to weight his kicks better.

Doesn't look like he's afraid the stoppage contests either.

To me, could be a very good hard player or a solid player. Can't ask for much more than that at pick #10.

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

Here are my picks, ordered from first choice to last:

10 - Talia, Butcher, Melksham, Moore, Stevens, Lucas
24 - Bartlett, Christensen, Bastinac, Sheppard, Taylor
26 - Christensen, McMillan-Pittard, Gysberts, Harwood, Colyer
33 - Long, Winmar, Fyfe, Wanganeen

Although Emma Quayle had McMillan-Pittard listed very high in her "talented 25" article so I obviously underrate him and he may be long gone before even 24. And I didn't double up much on 24 and 26 even though there will be cross over as they are only two picks apart, just for diversities sake.

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

Yeah she has McMillan-Pittard at 8 and Bartlett at 10.

We'd be doing very well to get Bartlett and Christensen at 24 and 26. I'm a little confused with the reports on Bartlett though. I've read that he wins a lot of the footy as well as reading that he has a reputation for being "very outside" and not getting a great deal of the footy. I've only seen that 5 minute highlights package on youtube so I don't know what to take as gospel. Thoughts ant/foj?

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

Kyle Hardingham tallish defender from east Fremantle could be a chance at 33 or in the PSD - if EFC feel the need to replace McPhee.

I think the olny thing they will miss with McPhee is experience. The need to replace him is not there position wise as we already have NLM , Daniher , T Slattery and Welsh if needed to play a tallish flankers role.
Lets face it although McPhee had a couple of wins here and there against taller oponents he was hardly what you would call a gun tall defender.

Is a player that can win contested footy but is often used as a link player or winger becasue of his pace. Like a lot of kids when they are used in outside wing roles often there will be games where they struggle to get into the games.
He has looked pretty good in a couple of games i saw him used in the middle but it is hard to make a really informed decision on him becasue he missed all of this year so unless you have seen most of the Falcons games you are making a judgment based on 3 or 4 games.

From memory i think it was 6 games i saw him in during 2008 and one of them was very ordinary ( around 6 disposlas) and a couple where he was average with around 14 or 15 possessions so as you can see for me he was a 50/50 porspect on what i saw.

I'd also add Hooker to that list.

Just had a look at some video footage on Moore. Looks pretty good without being outstanding.

Suprised he is being linked with Essendon as high as pick 10 when other believe he could drop into a late second round pick.

Any idea's where our interest is coming from? Would he be picked up as a back pocket/flanker or would we try and mould him into a midfielder? He's looks pretty agile so obviously could be quiet flexible in a number of positions and we must believe he has alot of growth in him still.

Any more thoughts or info on this kid would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Draft Picks 10, 24, 26 & 33

Emma Quayle mentioned in The Age blog today that we are linked with JMP, Bartlett, Moore & Stevens at 10. Will look at Butcher & Talia if available. Keen on Melksham also but she believes he will go to Port. Christensen is a target for our 20's picks and Anthony Long a possibility for 33. Confirmed our interest in Liam Patrick but not whether it would be at 33 or in PSD.
