2009 Membership Tally

Lets be honest...
Is anybody even slightly concerned at the figure to date?
Sure there are reasons, but numbers in general don't lie.

To date Richmond, St.Kilda, Bulldogs, Melbourne all are around the 10k mark.
We are not even at the 5k mark.

If you had a business you would look at your historical, your own forecast, what your competitors are doing and make an assessment.

Our position ATM is not one of strength. I hope things turn around quickly, but it is a "little" concerning where we are at.
Anybody else share my concern?

I think we are all a little concerned at the poor start whether we want to admit it or not but lets just hope its starts to pick up over the next couple of weeks. if we are still dragging our heels in late Jan thats when I will be "Officially" worried.

I officially signed up for '09 today, it was actually packed in the roo shop around 1.30pm today! Couldn't move! Bought the new x-blades kit aswell, looks good!

Good to hear Sco.

In 2008 we increased our membership by around 9k (excludes Roo Crew) against the average of 2004-07. However over 7k of that increase was achieved in Dec 07. Even allowing for a slower take up rate than 2008 I feel we need to get well over 8k by the end of the month to be on target to break 30k in 2009.

We sold over 4k memberships between 13/12/07 and 21/12/07 plus, unlike previous years, this year the Roo Shop and phones will be open on 29/12/08 and 30/12/08. Therefore another 5k by 31/12/08 is achieveable.

Membership tallies as at 9 Dec 08. Some figures taken from the main board.

Brisbane...............12,167
Collingwood............7,000
Essendon..............21,951
Hawthorn..............16,369
Melbourne.............14,000
Nth Melb.................3,691
Richmond...............12,820
St Kilda...................7,500
West Coast............40,000
Western Bulldogs.....10,800.

These other Clubs are getting significant dollars in the bank early that we are missing out on. We need to move to the sign up early mindset.

lol...**** that looks shithouse.

i was one of those that signed up in december last year, something i usually don't do. we needed to send an urgent message, and a lot of supporters did this in december. i usually sign up around february/march as i will do again this year.

i wouldn't worry about the current figures too much. :thumbsu:

I'm more concerned for Collingwood's membership. With their loss of revenue from the hotels over the past couple of years, 7000 members at this stage looks pretty shitty.

Time to move to West Sydney me thinks.

After reading the crap on bay 13 everyone would think that we are dead and buried.

It's only December and the memberships have only been out for a couple of weeks.

Our family usually joins just before the season starts. This year we have already joined. There will be members who for different reasons may not join until next year.

One thing that I have learnt over this year is to have confidence in the clubs admin.

Membership has gone up 629 in two days.
Figure is now at 4320.

If membership keeps increasing at 500 plus every couple of days we will reach 8000 pre xmas.

We need to average 300 per day (14 processing days) to the end of the month and we'll get around 8,500 which would have us on track to break 30,000 based on previous years renewal profiles. This is achievable.

KL the numbers continue to stack up and I suspect there are significant numbers from reserved seats that have/will not be posted yet - I emailed yesterday about when reserved seats would be allocated and received the following response from Lauren -

I was informed by my membership manager today that due to the high demand of memberships coming in we will not be starting to allocate reserved seats until the new year.

The company shuts down between the 24th and the 5th. Seats will begin to be allocated as soon as we all return.

If you like I can email or contact you as soon as I know what is available.

With still days to go to Xmas I believe we are probably going to be close to 9 or 10k assuming my assumption that reserved seats applications have not been counted - it also seems thay have been very busy as reflected in the recent jump in numbers - its still looking good for 30k plus.

Over he last few days we have been selling memberships at the same rate as in this time in Dec 2007. We should break 10k by 31 Dec and break 30k in total.

Brisbane...............13,947 (10/12)
Carlton ................12,805 (10/12)
Collingwood...........17,055
Essendon..............21,951 (9/12)
Hawthorn..............25,911 (20% new members)
Melbourne.............14,501
Nth Melb................7,010
Richmond..............15,461
St Kilda.................12,715
Western Bulldogs.....14,081.

We are down in the first quarter but we will come back and get above the Bulldogs and possibly Melbourne who may have a membership year like us in 2008.

Brisbane will do well financially as they get a higher return on their memberships.
While the larger Melbourne based Clubs are doing well with memberships at the moment i suspect this will slow down as the time goes on. The Bulldogs have a high level of Roo for Life type memberships as so look good early. We will travel OK with 32k.

Happy to other views.

I would have thought with the economic situation, that not many clubs would have increases in membership next year. Richmond for obvious reasons, Hawthorn of course, but I would expect the rest to be around the same or slightly lower.

My View is that Melbourne will barely achieve 30k and North will get 31k ticketed.
I expect the Bulldogs to break their hoodoo 30k barrier this year but then drop back in 2010 if they don't make the prelims in 09.

I don't see Carlton going up as much as you predict, but agree with the tigers estimate.

Am surprised by just how much we out paced the Saints in 08 membership!

Cheers

Things are very buoyant at both those clubs and they have huge supporter bases. Expect their membership to go through the roof.

Without igniting the Laidley v someone else debate, it would be really fantastic if we could finish a season on a high note. Sure it's great to finish 3rd or 8th or whatever but it's more important that the team finishes the season in such a way that people say "next time, it".

Horseracing enthusiasts will know what I mean.
