2010 Ladder Predictions

Hell, if I were offended by people predicting West Coast in the bottom half then I'd have responded to half the posts in this thread.

Good point EM - a thick skin is required. If I had a dollar for every silly post about us in recent times I'd be sitting on a Scrooge McDuck-sized pile by now ;)

LOL at the latest one - predicting Trengove (minus correct spelling) will win the Rising Star AND that we'll somehow finish last at the same time :p

Premiers: Bulldogs
Runner Up: Adelaide
Coleman: 1st Riewoldt 2nd Roughead 3rd Hall
Brownlow: Matthew Boyd
Rising Star: Michael Hurley Not being biased just my opinion.

1. Geelong (Final year at their peak with all players fit and firing)
2. Western Bulldogs (This is the year of the dogs, BJ's last season, addition of Hall to make things click)
3. St. Kilda (The tops 3 sides will be very close, all at similar odds to take the flag by mid-year)
4. Adelaide (Will continue to develop their kids and will be a very formidable side in 2010)
5. Hawthorn (With 2009 put behind them and some players to complete full pre-seasons Hawthorn will be buried well within the top 8.
6. Carlton (Similar to 09, dont see much improvement in them, keep developing the kids will make their charge in 2011)
7. Collingwood (Young side, good kids and will always be up there)
8. Brisbane (Not sure about Brisbane really could be anywhere from 5-11. I feel they rely a bit much on Black and Brown and could be in some strife if one or both go down.)

9. West Coast (Looked pretty good towards the end of 09, but still need another year rebuilding will just miss out on finals.
10. Kangaroos (Have some good kids coming through, will get Warren and Ziebell back as well and have Boomer to lead them through the year.)
11. Essondon (Will start to struggle in 2010, the standout of the year to be Hurley to take over from Fletcher in 2011).
12. Fremantle (I'll get criticized here but i think Freo will improve on their 09 season. Good kids coming through, now with a year or more under their belt, and hopefully full seasons from Palmer, Crowley and Hayden.

13. Sydney
14. Richmond
15. Melbourne
16. Port Adelaide

Bottom 4 is a lottery, i think port are on the way down, and melbourne still need a year at least to rebuild. Sydney and Richmond could finish higher.

Premiers: Saints
Runners up: Bulldogs
Brownlow: Sam Mitchell
Coleman: Fevola
Rising Star: Hurley

Well yeah, I wouldn't have said it if I didn't. I definitely expect a more substantive improvement in our on-field results, as long as we're not bedeviled by the same injury syndrome again.

Pretty good assesment, i may be biased but im with you, I think the cats have one more year of top 2 footy in them, assuming hawkins continues to improve to say 50 goals and scarlett stays scarlett, the cats wont drop anywhere over the ground so should stay top 2..

if the hawks get burgoyne and stay healthy i think they will finish top 2 as well..

it will be incredibly hard to split the top 4 with the cats, hawks, saints and dogs..and carlton knocking on the door hard

How do you guys reckon it will unfold next year?

For mine...

1. Collingwood - Still a virtually young side that is already achieving alot. Will improve again next year.
2. St. Kilda - Can't see them dropping out of the top 4 next year.
3. Hawthorn - Will be hungrier than ever, with a massive preseason and less injuries will undoubtedly be top 4.
4. Carlton - Will make the jump into the top 4. Depth is questionable, but should make it.
5. Western Bulldogs - Will be around the mark again, without really challenging.
6. Geelong - Will drop IMO. Don't look as threatening as they use to, but will still make finals. Think Essendon of 02.
7. Essendon - Young side that will improve, but will still have quite a way to go in regards to rising up the top 8 and becoming a real contender.
8. Adelaide - Have a great mix of young talent + experience. Will probably be higher in most peoples predictions, but I wasn't sure where to fit them in.
--------------------------------------------------------------
9. Brisbane - Still have a few holes in their list IMO and will get jumped.
10. Melbourne - May be a little biased, but I reckon we will finish around here next season. Watts and Jurrah in their second seasons, Blease & Struass (top 20 2008, injured) to debut, top two picks 2009, maturing of already young players. Regardless of ladder positioning it's going to be an exciting year for Dees supporters.
11. West Coast - Similar to Melbourne, but I think they have overachieved at the end of this year. Think Richmond at the end of 08 - but they won't be as bad the following year of course.
12. Port Adelaide - Don't really rate them too much. They have been relatively lucky with injuries this year but are still putting up some pathetic performances. They are a team that could rise, but i'm not too sure.
13. North Melbourne - Not really sure with North, you can never write them off, but I just don't think they'll make too much progress in 2010.
14. Fremantle - Will win around 5-6 games IMO. Have decent talent coming through but will need a bit longer. Will rise in 2011.
15. Sydney - Loss of expierience will hurt them. If they go in a direction of youth they will be down for a while yet.
16. Richmond - Sorry, but nothing about Richmonds list impresses me. Have a few decent young kids but have many holes and plodders. Should grab the 2010 spoon.

Premiers - Saints
Brownlow - Hayes (St. K)
Rising Star - Scully (MEL)
this is a fairly good prediction , however i am a mad freo supporter and a hate the eagles so i would hate for the eagles to finish above us.

1. St. Kilda (strong, well aged list)
2. Bulldogs (Will improve next year)
3. Hawthorn (Clubs don't fluke premierships)
4. Adelaide ( Natural improvement should see them go 1 better)
5. Geelong (Will be the year the decline starts, getting old)
6. Collingwood (Another solid season with this list)
7. Carlton (I don't rate their list that highly, backline needs work. But they won't go backwards)
8. West Coast (Will be the big improver of 2010)
-------------------------
9. Brisbane Lions (Decent list but can't see much improvement)
10. Essendon (We'll be there abouts, but we've got some deficiencies)
11. Port Adelaide (Club culture appears all wrong, can't see them making the 8)
12. Fremantle (Will improve next year)
13. North Melbourne (List isn't good enough to make the 8, not bad enough to bomb)
14. Richmond (The list just isn't good enough)
15. Melbourne (No picks to lose for, young kids on the rise, should sneak some wins)
16. Sydney (Big loss of personnel, young stocks aren't outstanding, will struggle.)

This is where my thinking is putting teams for now - I would like to wait for trade week and the drafts to be done before I cement my placings.

yeah, know what you mean, Hawks maybe getting Burgouyne and Bulldogs getting Hall, puts them up a place or two in my book, and the Dees losing McLean puts them back on the bottom.
