Re: Worst trades of the season

Ball -> Judd before Ball started tearing it up
Hitchcock -> Rockliff (instead of Pods)
Hall -> Higgins

This game is ****ed

Ball to Judd is fine (except you have paid full market value for Judd. Could have got eg Swan for $50k less)
Rockliff - who would've guessed? Nothing to indicate at the time that pods had job security.
Hall - calculated risk. He could've played a 80-100pt match and his price would still plummet. Will still throw in the 30pt matches which will make you tear your hair out. You've traded up to a keeper, so no probs.

Re: Worst trades of the season

Not to add salt into the wounds but Hall's up against North and Essendon over the next couple of weeks where he averages 131 and 141. I dont think trading him out was a bad idea or even bad timing..in the long run i'd say you'll still work out to be ahead but for now i have to keep him

The tricky thing is players like Hall / Malceski / Hille (on a relative basis) / Ball are mid-priced potential keepers and when they underperform (or reach their maximum price) there is always temptation to trade them out however in the back of your mind there is a risk these players have the potential to bounce back.

Therefore, I don't think the trading out Hall was a bad trade (just very unlucky with timing, especially where there was an article on AFL website stating he might get rested)... http://www.westernbulldogs.com.au/season2010/news/newsarticle/tabid/4112/newsid/94128/default.aspx

I traded out Trengove [Melb] last week and in the back of my head I know Trengove can score 100+.

Re: Worst trades of the season

A guy in my league had Goddard in his midfield and traded him out for Ablett. Sure, he's getting Ablett in his team, but I thought overall it was a fail.

Re: Worst trades of the season

Last Thursday evening looking to gain an extra 11,000 to get in Giansiracusa, I traded out Beau Waters for Michael Johnson.

Ouch.

Horrible, horrible, absolutely horrible. Did I mention I thought it was horrible? :D

Tad unlucky as you couldn't predict that Johnson was going to get busted for drugs but a pretty shit trade regardless.

WINNER! :thumbsu:

Re: Worst trades of the season

A mate of mine lost patience with Sam Mitchell a couple of weeks ago and traded in Liam Anthony who then injured his shoulder. He traded Anthony for Vince the following week who continued to spud it up, then get himself injured and a club imposed ban. In the meantime Mitchell comes back and burns out a lazy 146 to add salt to the wounds!

Re: Worst trades of the season

traded seaby to mumford the week before he got suspended

More unlucky than a bad trade.

You however should have gone for Sandilands and Cox for your rucks though and no cheap band aid solution like Mumford as it will always come back to haunt you in the end. Cough, cough Seaby, cough!

Re: Worst trades of the season

Am going to nominate my Hall>Higgins trade now, not only did he score double what Higgins did I now have to face that he is going to miss this week with soreness

Re: Worst trades of the season

The bulk of the trades listed in this thread are sideways. Moral of the story is that they are inherently risky. They can be masterstrokes, but they have far more chance at failing than a sensible upgrade or downgrade.

Moral of the story is minimise your sideways trades, minimise your unnecessary risk, and reap the rewards.

Re: Worst trades of the season

Inside top 1000. Trade number 9

Phil Davis --> Leon Davis...

Rationale was i can cop some crap 60's for the odd 100+ as the last forward, a little bit of a difference maker...

Gets 30 odd and likely to miss a few through form and/or injury...

Ordinary rationale I know but hard to waste a trade more effectively than this .

Re: Worst trades of the season

Ladson to Schmidt and Davis to Ablett....oh wait :D

Seriously, this week, getting O'keefe without checking BE. Could have saved a killing by waiting 1 or 2 weeks. Oh well, as long as he scores 100+ ill cop it
