Apart form Yorke, Fowler and Kewell I don't think any of the other marquees have brought anyone through the gate. It's just an extension of the salary cap really. Carney would be a good signing for Sydney.

What about the King of Dribble Richardinho? People came from high and low to laugh at MV's recruiters for that one!

In all seriousness though you're right- you could argue that Ifill and Flores have brought more fans in as they're exploits became better known, but their signing alone didn't do anything initially.

Not good for the league as we need Sydney to do well but I get a bit of a hard-on from knowing that Cockerill, Harper, Slater and whoever is in the Sydney press are hurting big time.

Still can't see it happening, Emerton effectively kept Blackburn up at the end of last season. Cannot see them selling him. Especially for diddly squat!

Sydney can't afford to thrash out $$$ for him.

He has played the last 3 seasons at Hannover 96, scoring 7 goals in 44 appearances according to the ever reliable wikipedia.

7 goals for Hannover in 44 games over 3-4 years..sounds like he was a sub a lot. It's so much if he has what it still takes, it's just that Sydney might be looking at players who are headline grabbers just to try and get people through the gate rather than sign someone they actually need.

I'd bar up if Forssell came to the A-League, the man is a legend but frankly his knees are shot to bits, I think he'd struggle fitness-wise. I think if he was fit he'd probably be back at Blues.

doubt this is true, although he is a fantastic and far more durable player than Kewell, may win SFC more games just by staying on the park, great for the A-league

Great coup for Sydney FC signing Emmo. I am truly amazed that they have pulled it off; Emmo is a first team player at Blackburn and was one of their best last season. All without having to pay any transfer fee. Have to laugh at Cockring's article claiming that Scum FC were always after Emmo not Kewell, talk about sour grapes from a Sydney loving journalist.


Hang on to your hats fellas, the A League is about to lift off. Wish Bresciano & Luca$h Neill would take note, cancel their oil money contracts in the Middle East and really give the sport a massive boost in Australia by coming home (Bresh to Heart & Luca$H to Brisbane Roar would be ideal).

I reckon Adelaide have the best balanced squad but on paper and the A league never quite works out.

What a signing. Straight from EPL, still a quality, reliable EPL player to the A-League. In terms of quality, Emerton would probably be the best signing in the history of the A-League- he's still not over the hill yet and playing at the highest level consistently.
