Ok. Which one do you want to replace? Gaff, Rosa or Embley.
Embley probably has one year left in him.
Could also slot onto the recently vacated HFF or at the very least provide depth for both areas. With Houlihan and presumably Dalziell on the way out we could use some depth on the wing and in terms of cost vs potential output Clinton Young is a steal.

Re: brad ebert quits west coast

I really like lockyer because of his attitude and aggressiveness at the ball and the play and would be happy to pick him up with either of our picks. Nelson seems very, very vanilla to me and i think he could be a roleplayer for us in a successful side but i just dont see a spot in the team for him. As a mid i see him as one of 2 rotations off the bench and while he can fill a HFF spot i just dont see any dynamism there.

Agree with Lockey or McIness, would settle our talls for the next 5 years or so.

With Nelson, havn't seen much of him at junior/WAFL level at all. Is he really as vanilla as you've mentioned, considering he topped the kicking efficiency and polled well in the athletic categories at draft camp. (I realise draft camp results can be misleading), but surely a player with as much pace and skill could fill a need for us long term

TBH would rather J.Hill on a wing than Young, would add just that little more flair to the team. Although I'm a fan of Young, think he's been slightly overrated considering his injury troubles over the past few years.

As for Nason, would struggle to support us if he dons the blue and gold. As average a player as you can get, would rather Nahas or even Hams as a small forward. Just has one of those faces that needs a good smashing!

Re: brad ebert quits west coast

By picking up Hill, probably upgrading Hams and also having Strijk, Weedon and Broome will we still try and draft a small forward with any of our 2 or three picks this draft?

I don't think so. Another mid and another KP defender for mine.

Yeah, but a guy that can run that hard and get his hands on the ball that much and then test as well as he did in the kicking drill, would be more than useful in my book.:thumbsu: I was surprised at the kicking result because I thought kicking was one of the weaknesses?

I dont see Weedon or Broome as being AFL ready just yet.

I was surprised by the kicking result as well but the only part of that draft camp test that i put any weight into is the ratio of their left/right score. On nelson the other way of looking at it is that he could very well play as the running HF or even as a small back pocket and be a list upgrade on hams, neates etc.

Really says how weak this draft is to me if we're talking about guys like nelson for pick 23 and tbh he could be taken even earlier.

They were saying on the draft board WB are baulking at the pick offered for Hill so they might not take part in the deal..
Not sure how much truth there is in that, and certainly havent heard anything on TWR as yet..

They do realise he was pick 61 and hasn't shown a whole lot since then?? He started well, then stalled badly, so they can't expect too much!

How bout this hypothetical

We get pick 17, Hill and 39
Lose 23, Ebert, 45

Port get Ebert, 45
Lose Brogan, Cornes, 29

Dogs Gain 23, 29, 49
Lose Hill, 17, 39

GWS gain Brogan, Cornes
Lose 49

We pretty much upgrade our picks and give the Dogs 2 slightly lower ones, similar to the Scooter trade so there is a precedent.

This is like 17 and 39 for 23 and 29.. back then we got 22 for 30 and 35! Lol idiots...

Broome is an absolute spud, total waste of a spot on the list.

Shows absolutely nothing at Claremont, can't been get a game in the league team.

So you missed the first 4 weeks of the WAFL season when he was leading goalkicker with 17 goals?:D

What I'm getting at Phil, is I think Nelson is under-rated. ;) Don't disagree with the weakish draft, but the top line talent seems OK and let's face it, as Adam Selwood said, 90% of AFL players are role players, they have to find their niche. by the by, it was a great article with A Selwood in the Eagle Eye mag.:thumbsu:

I have been texted the same thing I got yesterday and that is Eagles have one or two fitness concerns over Josh Hill thats stopping the deal from going through atm. Any Doggies fans know what injuries he carried this year?

So it's not that the Bulldogs want pick 45? It's fitness concerns. Fair enough.

Sigh...

I wish we were a bit more proactive during trading period.

For Example,
Have spent at least 4-5 years needing a small forward (apart from Le Cras) and continually coming up with duds. Bedford, JON, Hams, Masten, Broome, Weedon, Neates, Strijk... and not anywhere closer to finding one.

St Kilda spent a 5 pick downgrade and got Saad and Milera. And luck with probably have it that one of them turns into the next Milne.

Next season you can bet that teams will look at our speed in the forward line as a weakness (collingwood and geelong inspired).

Nicoski was good this year but will me more on the radar. Not enough tricks and too left sided. Small defenders with pick this up and shut him down.

Just praying that Weedon can have a big year.

Hams, Masten.. duds??

I can't believe this deal isn't done yet, so frustrating. Bulldogs are lucky to get anything for Hill so I don't know why they're hesitant over the pick they're getting for him.

Would have to disagree to an extent.

If we get Hill, he won't play as a small forward. Personally think he's beautifully suited to a wing. Has that silky indigenous stride tailor made for a subi wing (JON MkII ). If not he'll replace Ebert as a high HF.

Won't even attempt to argue Broome's case. We all know he's just too small and weak to hold down a spot in modern footy. Unfortunately he's the only true small forward on our list.

Also of the opinion Hams is not AFL quality. Despite his size he's not a traditional small forward, but rather a high HF/ midfielder. He certainly won't be forcing a LeCras, Darling or rotating mid from the team anytime soon. Same goes for Strijk, but with far greater potential as a high HF with his marking ability, size and skill.

Weedon's a tricky one, if he eventually steps up, and that's a big IF, it sure won't be as a small forward. I personally believe he'd make a nice HBF/ third third tall (even though he aint that tall). But most likely he'll fill a role as a mid rotation, rotating from the forward flank straight to the guts.

Is it possible that the Eagles have given up on the small forward in favour of taller utilities to fill the role (Nicoski, Darling, Weedon, etc)?

milne goes missing in big games so no thanks.

in case you have forgotten, we finished last, 2nd last and 11th in last 4-5 years. agree we need a small fwd, but we have had more pressing matters last 4-5 years. id rather have that issue than what some other teams have ie. carlton and no bigs, melb and fwd's, essendon and mids. fixing their issues are harder than ours.
