Re: Delistings

We got mugged with Ebert going for (less than) Pick 28. He will very likely play 200+ games and he will be a solid player, no star. His skills will improve modestly year-on-year for the next few years as they have done here. Sadly, we were never going to get a reasonable deal - but should file that in th memory bank for future years.

Pick 49 is probably more than Hill is worth. He is 2yrs older than Ebert and had poorer stats than Ebert this year (when Ebert was playing in an unfamiliar role). IMO Hill will need the equivalent of a "ticker transplant" to become a regular player. I hope he can make it, but my gut tells me it will not happen.

If Hams can stay rookie listed, then that is where I would leave him - otherwise de-list him. Replace BJ, CW, & BD with three fresh faces using Picks 23, 28 and 63.

Hams will be a better option to upgrade then anyone we pick up at 63 in this draft

Go Eagles was saying not long ago that Ebert is in our best 22 players and now he is saying that its a massive win that he is gone. Go figure.

Okay, the explanation.

Ebert was in our best 22 one spot ahead of masten in the last part of the year.
So for me Ebert was 22 and masten was 23 although the selectors thought otherwise, the opposite.

THis includes the fact that Rosa was out and Hooligan was out of the picture.

If you look at the the best 22 teams I have picked Ebert is many times not in it.

He is definately a Port man due to tradition, so his heart is not here which means he might daydream abit on the field. I could go into that but I wont.

I was concerned that Stevens might leave because he was one of the main reasons for our great pre-season and needs his chance.

Also I am factoring the bulkier Gaff and Rosa, the fitter Weedon and Strijk, a dancing Josh Hill and pinpoint recruiting for the future with an earlier pick 28 as now it is clearer what we need.

We might become the toughest physical side out there next year.

I am surprised that Callum Wilson has been delisted though, although I think they will go for another KKF in the draft for the future, although Lycett will be around in the immediate future.

If I was the recruiting manager I would try and find a Marc murphy type steal.

If Priddis goes down, Stevens is also a great replacement in his position, far more so than Ebert for that style of player.

Well forget that then and reference this trade period. Jordan Lisle (5 games, 21yo) get pick 29. Jack Gunston (14 games, 20 y.o.) get pick 24. Bard Ebert (76 games, 21yo) get pick 28 (plus a 4 pick downgrade in the 40's).

YEAH, WE GOT THE DUD DEAL OF THE TRADING PERIOD.

Everyone knows talls, most of the time get you more in return than below-average mids....Especially young talls. Brad was also out of contract and Port could easily have got him for nothing.

On top of that whist Brad may have 76 (mostly terrible) games and be 21, he is what he is and hasn't really improved since his first year. The talls traded could still become something very good....Showing me how many games they've played doesn't mean much, as I'm sure all clubs would take NN, Darling and Shuey from us over Brad....They're quality.

Like I've said, I'm not fussed to lose Brad and I look forward to seeing Koby take his spot and not embarrass himself.

Back on topic...

This article on The West suggests that Dalziell will survive the cut to give some midfield depth in the absence of Ebert.

If Dalziell stays then one of Neates or Stevenson has to go ... would definitely rather they both stayed.

I would be very disappointed if DDD was kept at the expense of Stevenson or Neates. If we delist Stevenson, watch Collingwood pick him up.

I can't see the Eagles delisting Neates. You can't say we are focusing on developing a crumber and then delist Neates without him even having an opportunity.

Neates probably will be rookied and rightly so, harsh but he doesn't deserve a spot on the main list as yet.

Sounds like this draft will only go to about Pick 64 , according to Emma Quayle and an article on the AFL site . Seems like a good year to have only a few picks with clubs opting out and promoting rookies and keeping changes to a minimal !

Seems like with free agency and a very strong 2012 draft , most clubs will only have 3 picks in the 2011 draft and load up in 2012 .

"Jones met with club officials this morning to receive the news, while Wilson had been informed earlier this month."

Earlier this month as in yesterday by JLo?

J Jones was getting pretty good stats in the WAFL. I wonder what happened? Is Dalziell really a better option?

No JoJo :(

Wouldn't mind betting the Dorkers picking up Callum Wilson and him kicking 40+ Goals as a full time FF.

Wow, would definitely have kept Jojo ahead of Neates, as I'm sure Neates could have been rookied. Kinda disappointing we didn't go after Walters all those years ago, since we just delisted the alternative.

Jones and Wilson cut

Jones and Wilson have been cut.

http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7155/newsid/125289/default.aspx

Very disappointing to cut Jones but leave Daziell.

Wilson I feel sorry for, he can make AFL but not at WCE. Would only get a game if JK, Darling, Lynch, Lycett were injured. Saying that would on been nice depth to have. Probably means we are looking at KPF for pick 23.

Stevenson should be cut imo. Great skills but soft as butter.

Extremely surprised JOJO got the arse:(....I really, really like him. Some one will take him for sure. Wilson going is no surprise. Lynch, Darling and JK are all better as tall forwards and more versatile too. Wilson will also get taken imo

Looking to the draft for a sec....I'm officially opening up a bandwagon and filling it with 'Brad Mckenzie @ pick 23' fans. Just watched the SA v WA match and shit....He was the standout imo. For those who haven't seen him, think (in physical size and style) of a better looking version of Heppell with a bit of white Stephen Hill.

Great size and will easily put on muscle. Very good overhead mark, great reading of the play in defence, poise, an awesome left foot, more pace than Heppell and gets in to the physical side of play too.

Listed as a HB in the draft combine (don't roll eyes yet) but is a genuine forward and mid too (in SANFL under 18s last year, kicked 34 goals in 13 matches). Can run and carry and kick goals from midfield/wing.

I'm officially set on getting him at 23 and Newman at 28. I will kill myself if it doesn't happen.
