Re: 2011 Membership Information Released

Yep.
I was down that way over the weekend so stopped in on Friday and picked up the cap, which i thought looked the best yet.
According to the guy behind the counter they only got them in a few days prior.
There was actually a third option outside of the cap and scarf, too, but i'm not exactly sure what it was.

I really liked last years hat.... now am looking forward to getting this years!!

Re: 2011 Membership Information Released

hmmm any idea on how to claim a cap/scarf if you have a membership but live in melbourne?

In the past you've been able to either pay them a fiver to send it, or alternatively pick it up at either the NAB Cup games or the early games at Skilled.

I don't imagine it'd be any different this year, although they did insist that they scan your card before giving you the cap/scarf (so those that renew in person must wait for their card before going back to collect their cap/scarf).

2011 Afl Membership with Geelong Club Support

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask a quick question, as this is the first year I have been an AFL Member.

I purchased the AFL membership and selected Geelong Club support. Yesterday I received in the mail my Geelong Membership entitlement package (including the key ring, fridge magnet, lanyard, members guides etc.). I was under the impression that I was meant to get a Geelong Membership card as well, to use at home games at Skilled? Is this correct, or is this no longer the case and my AFL Membership card will let me scan in at Geelong games at Skilled?

From some other threads from a couple of years ago that I read on BF, I noticed people were receiving an AFL membership card and a GFC card as well. If anyone can let me know it would be appreciated, so I know whether to chase up the AFL membership people or GFC.

Cheers

The bolded part is right. If people also had a GFC card as well as their AFL Membership Club support card then they may have purchased a seat at Skilled Stadium as well or something.

Re: 2011 Geelong memberships (12/02/2011: 27,034)

The club is clearly concerned about the lower than expected uptake of memberships. If we can't achieve 50,000 members when we're travelling so well heaven help us when we slip.

I think we are a club that will have a relatively stable membership base, compared to some of the clubs with the more cyclic numbers (eg. Hawthorn).

We have a home ground which houses less than 30,000, which hinders us in getting the maximum numbers but helps in the poorer times as most people are attached to their seat and do not want to give it up as they will lose it.

How stable the membership is will be tested if we slip, SJ. I'm not as confident as you about that.

The issue of ground capacity crops up all the time. However, as you know, there are a bucket load of lower cost alternatives to support the club rather than merely barrack for it.

I'd reckon the majority of Hawthorn members aren't full members. Could be quite a few pet dogs, cats and birds counted too.;)

If you don't have a season reserved seat at Skilled Stadium you will only get the AFL membership card. You can use this card to scan into Skilled Stadium general admission (standing room and limited seats) as a GFC member or purchase a reserved seat the week before the game.

If you have a season reserved seat at Skilled I would contact the Club.

Your best chance is Round 1 - Cats home game at the MCG v St Kilda. Or Nab Cup game on Sunday at Skilled.
Choose one of three items this year - members cap, members scarf, or members blanket.
You'll need your card to be scanned at time of collection.

Geelong car screen stickers?

Where do you get the Geelong cat face sticker so you can put it on your window??

Re: 2011 Membership Information Released

Just purchased my membership. Being a student this year certainly paid off! Only cost me $116 as opposed to $190 for full price.

Re: 2011 Geelong memberships (18/02/2011: 27,668)

I love this "we need to think outside the square".

How about just follow some of the other clubs. For example:

Hawthorn give a cap if you renew early, and the scarf with the # of years on it to everyone. This is a good opportunity for Geelong to introduce this. Whilst we are on a high and have record membership, do the scarf with the years on it. When we then fall away, people will still be incentivised to renew to keep their # of years growing.

In regards to juniors (not that this is a core group, but get em in young and hopefully they'll keep renewing under the scarf theory) Melbourne give a pack (I believe) Hawthorn give a drink bottle and some stationery, but at Geelong, you have to pay an extra $40 for what must be said is very average stuff (I think my kids got a cape last year. Why???)

So I haven't renewed the kids yet this year, because whats the point? They are too young to go, and even if they could go, they can't sit with me (I'm social club) and really, unless I pay $70 odd dollars, they don;t get much more than a card, a key ring and some stickers. Really not worth it. I'll probably end up renewing them, but really no need to rush.

The clubs membership department is light years behind other clubs IMO.

Re: 2011 Geelong memberships (18/02/2011: 27,668)

I'm just grateful for the fantastic ride the club has given me over recent years. That's more than a satisfactory return for me. The stuff that comes with the membership isn't why I am a member.

BTW. That isn't to suggest we shouldn't be looking at ways of attracting new inclusive supporters. Of course we should.

Something I wrote quite a while ago below. I feel the same as you.

I reckon our draw has not helped things at all. Obviously to get kids/families signed up they would prefer to go to day games and a lot of the time in Melbourne where they can turn up and get in. I went through our fixture the other day. JUST ONE DAY GAME IN MELBOURNE ON A SATURDAY OR SUNDAY! At the dome in r18 versus the Tigers.

And that's a 1.10pm start too, which would be difficult for families who have kids who do Auskick on a Sunday morning in Geelong to get to in time.

Re: 2011 Geelong memberships (11/03/2011: 31,156)

Our major problem is, our membership is still greater than our grounds seating capacity. On the odd occasion I can come to skilled, its not worth me driving 3 hours to find out I can't get a seat. Love the cats and have a limited membership, but this is a real issue.

Re: 2011 Geelong memberships (11/03/2011: 31,156)

Its interesting to hear about the deals and packages other clubs get as i have often wondered why our membership isn't higher than it is. I know quite a few Cats supporters in my area, more than essendon and carlton, yet im unable to convince them to buy a membership just for the sake of supporting the team. Perhaps more incentive to do so may help in that regard as i dont think 50,000 Cats members is out of the question at all.

I buy an interstate membership for roughly 100 each year and i usually get to a cpl games a year and im happy to do so. I dont have a point for saying that just wanted to brag about my loyalty :D

Yeah I hear that a lot. I reckon it's a bit of a cop out. There are plenty of packages that don't cost a great deal if people want to be supporters rather than just barrackers. It's great you're in one.:thumbsu:

With all the success we've had in recent times we should top 42,000 easily. With a population of around 200,000 in Geelong (not to mention the Surf Coast) it's pathetic that most members are still Melbourne based. Nothing is a better promotional vehicle for the Geelong area than the football club.

BTW. SS will never be large enough to cater for the sort of membership numbers we'll need if we're to match it with the membership rich clubs here and interstate in the future.
