2011 Ladder Predictions - Part 2

Remove this Banner Ad

1. Collingwood - The standout side in the competition - by lengths.
2. Western Bulldogs - Now is the time. Forget about last year.
3. St. Kilda - Still too many stars and too organised to fall away.
4. Hawthorn - Still lack speed but have too much talent to have a third poor year.
5. Geelong - Still rate them, transition period will slow them down but will finish strongly.
6. Carlton - Really needs to get moving. This year will be the next step.
7. Sydney - Solid list that could threaten in the next few years. Will play finals.
8. Melbourne - Will be inconsistent but show signs of brilliance. The start of something big.
9. Adelaide - Promising list that just needs another year before they start threatening the top sides.
10. Fremantle - Some great players but lack a little depth and injuries hurt. Expecting a dip in 2011 before a rise back to form in 2012.
11. North Melbourne - Great chance to make finals if not for a wretched pre-season. Still a big chance to threaten.
12. Essendon - Really rate their kids but have a weak last five or six players. Needs another year.
13. Port Adelaide - List just doesn't inspire me. Really bipolar club. As such, could still surprise.
14. Richmond - Some terrific players, some real mediocrity. Expecting another year of inconsistency.
15. Gold Coast - Too much genuine talent to finish last.
16. West Coast - Lack any real depth. Some promising youngsters but not enough.
17. Brisbane - Shambles of a club and list. Will need a few more top picks before they get back.

I expect this list to turn out horribly wrong, the ladder never seems to turn out how we expected it.

Guaranteed finals
Collingwood
Western Bulldogs
St. Kilda
Hawthorn
Geelong

Likely to play finals
Carlton
Sydney
Melbourne

Could sneak into finails
Adelaide
Fremantle
North Melbourne
Essendon
Port Adelaide

Not happening
Richmond
Gold Coast
West Coast
Brisbane

1. Western Bulldogs - I'd like to see that.
2. Collingwood - Thereabouts again.
3. Adelaide - Ended 2010 well and form looks good thus far.
4. Hawthorn - Still have doubts on their key defenders.
5. Carlton - Have the talent to challenge top 4.
6. Geelong - Aging legs but still a class outfit.
7. St.Kilda - Can't see where the improvement will come from.
8. Essendon - Can only improve and it seems they have.

9. Sydney - Will miss what Roos & Kirk bring.
10. Melbourne - Forward line lacks a monster.
11. Fremantle - Those cramped seats on Virgin will kill Sandilands.
12. Port Adelaide - Could surprise, but unlikely.
13. North Melbourne - Injury already taking a toll.
14. Gold Coast - Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3.....
15. Richmond - Apart from Riewoldt, they lack goalkickers.
16. Brisbane - Michael Voss.
17. West Coast - I thought the Ken Judge era was bad....but their last 2 years have eclipsed that.

 Hmm, we will see

St. Kilda - riewoldt, Goddard, Hayes and dal santo to dominate
Pies - few injuries will pull them back a touch, still very good team
Hawks - buddy to lift
Crows - fewer injuries and the rising of Taylor walker
Cats - to finish between three and here, just lack a dominant forward
Freo - will be a force with pav, sandi and their kids
Carlton - strong side, between fourth and here
Sydney - good side, good kids

WB - slide, inevitable
GC - not quite finals material
Demons - still a young side
Essendon - forward line depends on Hurley and midfield on Watson
North - over rated by their own supporters
Port - better luck next year
WC - improvement
Richmond - deledio and riewoldt show.. The rest don't
Brisbane - trouble

My ladder predictions for 2011

Western Bulldogs
Collingwood
Sydney
St Kilda
Geelong
Fremantle
Carlton
Adelaide
Hawthorn
North Melbourne
Essendon
Port Adelaide
Melbourne
Brisbane
Richmond
West Coast
Gold Coast Suns

A little unorthodox and seeing that every year my team doesn't rate I thought I would put them where I think they will come....(or hope).

Do not understand why so many predict the Dogs will finish above the Saints.
You could say that the Dogs have the better ruck division, but Saints have a stronger midfield, defense and attack.
Saints have had the experience of being in the last 3 GF's, Dogs haven't got there at all. Get real people!

2002-2003 Port Power. Were up there while Collingwood made consecutive grand finals and lost. 2004 Collingwood fell away while Power won the grand final.

Bulldogs midfield at full fitness is even with the saints.

Lake, Morris, Williams are better defensively than Dawson, Fisher, and whoever plays as the third tall.

Saints have a better forward line.

Plus you have to think Saints will be effected by the mental demons of two grand final losses and a horror off-season.

1) Collingwood
2) Hawthorn
3) St Kilda
4) Geelong
5) Carlton
6) Sydney
7) W Bulldogs
8) Adelaide

9) Melbourne

11) Essendon

Ain't gonna happen. ;)

1. Western Bulldogs
2. Collingwood
3. Sydney
4. St Kilda
5. Fremantle
6. Geelong
7. Carlton
8. North

9. Hawthorn
10. Melbourne
11. Adelaide
12. Essendon
13. Gold Coast
14. Richmond
15. Port Adelaide
16. West Coast
17. Brisbane

Before the NAB cup, an Essendon supporter was being ridiculed out of their mind for placing Essendon 7th. 80% of people had them in the bottom four. They do well IN THE NAB CUP and you see non-Essendon supporters putting them as high as sixth?

1. Collingwood
2. St Kilda
3. Western Bulldogs
4. Geelong
5. Hawthorn
6. Sydney
7. Fremantle
8. Adelaide
-------------------
9. Melbourne
10. Carlton
11. North Melb.
12. Richmond
13. Port Adelaide
14. West Coast
15. Essendon
16. Brisbane
17. Gold Coast

I really think that Essendon has been overrated by many, and are probably the worst Victorian side atm despite their promising pre season.

You missed the fact that St Kilda's best 5-6 are considerably better than WB top 5-6 and this alone should see them go further.

People read too much into NAB cup. We have improved a lot, and the youngsters are showing signs, but the top 8 maybe another year or two away. Only a small minority of Essendon supporters are talking top 8 anyway, most of us have Essendon finishing at around the 10-12 mark, I don't know what's with the massive turn of tide with opposition supporters, maybe we will surprise this year? But the main objective from the coaching staff is just improvement from the youngsters.

1: Collingwood
2: St.Kilda
3: Western Bulldogs
4: Geelong
5: Hawthorn
6: Sydney
7: Fremantle
8: Carlton
9: North Melbourne
10: Melbourne
11: Adelaide
12: Essendon
13: Richmond
14: Port Adelaide
15: West Coast
16: Brisbane
17: Gold Coast

Update, having gone through the fixture:

Western Bulldogs- 20/2
St. Kilda - 17/5
Collingwood - 16/6
Hawthorn - 16/6
Geelong - 15/7
Carlton - 15/7
North Melbourne - 14/8
Sydney - 14/8
Fremantle - 12/10
Adelaide - 12/10
Melbourne - 9/13
Essendon - 7/15
Richmond - 6/16
Brisbane - 5/17
Port Adelaide - 4/18
West Coast - 2/20
Gold Coast - 2/20

Thats how it came out when I predicted each game. Will probably be pretty wrong, I though Freo/Adelaide would make the 8 and was surprised at North. Carlton bias affected some match-ups, but I actively worked against this and had us on a pretty bad losing streak heading into finals.

Whilst a 20 win/two loss season would be ****ing awesome, I don't see it happening.

1. St Kilda (One last crack at it for mine, no real weakness either)
2. Collingwood (Will turn it on come finals ala Brisbane 01-03)
3. Hawthorn (Buddy and Roughy in for great years midfield ticking along well)
4. Carlton (Will bully lesser teams but KPD weakness will ultimately cost them)
5. Western Bulldogs (May struggle for goals if Hall struggles, but thereabouts)
6. Geelong (Injuries to key players atm but will do enough to win a home final)
7. Sydney (Best of the rest)
8. Adelaide (Strong in KP but midfield seems lacks brilliance for mine)
---------------------
9. Fremantle (Unfortunately injuries in the pre-season will cost them)
10. Melbourne (Another year of improvement but not quite there yet)
11. North Melbourne (Building nicely, but will need to wait one more year)
12. Essendon (Expect a strong start but will fade as the season wears on)
13. Port Adelaide (Strong defensively but can't see them threatening)
14. Richmond (Wanted to put them higher but there just too young)
15. Gold Coast (Talent alone will get them off the bottom)
16. Brisbane (Youngsters and top end talent slightly better than the Eagles)
17. West Coast (Only strength is their ruck division, weak in all other areas)

but you are going to get the reality check you deserve when we beat your crappy list and you won't even expect it.:)

And for what its worth our forward line> Yours

Le Cras, Kennedy, Darling, Hams, Strijk.

Yours- Dawes. Cloke, Shit Shit Shit Shit :D

by the way Collingwood is the weakest premiership side in the last 10-15 years.

You missed the fact that St Kilda's best 5-6 are considerably better than WB top 5-6 and this alone should see them go further.

Riewoldt
Goddard
Hayes
Montagna
Fisher
Gram

vs

Lake
Cooney
Boyd
Griffen
Cross
Hall

I don't think one set is considerably better than the other.

Port - better luck next year
WC - improvement
Richmond -.. The deledio and riewoldt show rest don't
Brisbane - trouble

you really have no idea if you think there are our only players!

Hard year to pick the ladder I think. There are probably 12-13 teams that you could make a legitimate argument for for them to make the finals.

Likewise there are number of teams that could put their hand up for top four spots. Will Geelong & St Kilda slide? Will Hawthorn & Carlton improve? Hard to say until the real thing stars.

How much can really be taken out of the preseason? Its when the real stuff starts where we will find out what is what. First 5 or so weeks could be ver tellin imo.

Anyway my crack at the ladder.

1. Collingwood
2. Western Bulldogs
3. St Kilda
4. Hawthorn
5. Sydney
6. Geelong
7. Carlton
8. Fremantle
---------------------------
9. Melbourne
10 Adelaide
11 North Melbourne
12 Essendon
13 Richmond
14 West Coast
15 Port Adelaide
16 Gold Coast
17 Brisbane

But within the first few weeks with injuries etc that will change. Will get to see just who was bluffing in the preseason once the season proper begins.

I feel its one year that is so even that the possibility of the premier not making the top 4 is a chance.

I think there will be some surprises this year;

  1. Collingwood
  2. Geelong
  3. Western Bulldogs
  4. Sydney
  5. St Kilda
  6. Hawthorn
  7. Melbourne
  8. Fremantle
  9. North Melbourne
  10. Richmond
  11. Carlton
  12. Adelaide
  13. Essendon
  14. West Coast
  15. Port Adelaide
  16. Gold Coast
  17. Brisbane

Riewoldt
Goddard
Hayes
Montagna
Fisher
Gram

vs

Lake
Cooney
Boyd
Griffen
Cross
Hall

I don't think one set is considerably better than the other.

Gram?

Try Nicky Dal maybe. Gram wouldn't be in their top 10.

St Kilda's top end talent is superior than any club in the competition. It's not a knock on the Bulldogs.

Riewoldt, Goddard, Hayes, Montagna, Dal Santo have any other clubs top 5 covered.
