Jimmy Toumpas (SA – Mid)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 02/01/1994
Recruited from: Woodville West Torrens
Player comparison: Chad Wingard
Range: 1-5
Profile: Really damaging player with some versatility. Can take over and influence games as well as just about anyone in this draft and throughout the u18 champs for bursts really imposed himself on games which was impressive. Skill level excellent by both hand and foot, has that combination of hurt factor and clean ball use that will make him a big time weapon. Consistently good decision maker. High level athlete and has that combination of explosive speed and agility that will make him desirable as well as in game work rate. Also has shown very early on that he can lift for the big games which is I strongly believe is something that he will take with him to AFL level. Can play as a midfielder, forward or back which is a big advantage but long term will no doubt develop into a midfielder. Has the ability to play both as an inside and outside midfielder. One important note with Toumpas is that throughout the u18 champs he was playing with hip problems so to play through injury and influence games in the way he did was very impressive.

Sam Mayes (SA – Fwd/Mid)
Height: 187cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 20/05/1994
Recruited from: North Adelaide
Style: Steve Johnson
Range: 5-20
Profile: Leadup forward who can also push into the midfield and have an impact. The standout feature of Mayes’ game is his kicking ability and it would have to be the best in the draft, just so good by foot and hits his targets and around goal just never misses. Has great pace and can really burst away from the trailing defender with ease. Marking ability very strong for a player of his size so there is allot to work with. Long term with Mayes the view would be for him to develop into a midfielder and with his great footskills, speed then ability when pushing forward to present as a marking target he looms as an ideal player to have in your rotation. But will take some time to develop into a high level midfielder and might benefit from learning off other high level midfielders.

When these two players are (hopefully) running around in our midfield, the loss last night to Carlton will be a distant dream.

There are better phantom drafts on BF IMO. What is the likelihood that the Suns or Giants will bid on Viney?

Also, I know there is a slot of speculation about Stringer but how do you not have him in the first round?
I honestly think GC will bid on him. They wouldn't be unhappy if Melbourne passed on him and they had to take him, since GC need a player like him. He's a top talent, so there isn't much risk I don't think. Melbourne will take him anyway though, Schwab is just trying to bluff everyone by saying they wont take him if they don't think he is worth the pick.

That's not dahlhaus_1993's draft, it's one from TAC cup future stars. But I agree with you, Stringer will go top 20. Would be insanity if no one took him, imo.

He had a serious broken leg, thoughts of Nathan Brown come to mind when you think of such a severe injury.

Stringer has lost his explosiveness, it's pretty concerning. I'd understand if clubs don't want to take the risk in the first round given what he's shown.

Would he fall as far as the rookie draft??

Cheers. Wow @ O'Rourke at number 2. Good prospect, but not that good I wouldn't have thought.

To me Whitfield looks a class above the rest, after that I think there's a group that's fairly even talent wise. I don't agree O'Rourke will go at No 2, but I agree with those players in the top 10 and it's exactly what I'd have but positioned differently. To me those 9 players are very even, so it will be interesting to see what clubs pick and who is available at our pick.

Agree about how even the selections after Whitfield are. That's part of the reason why I think GC will bid on Viney. It's going to be a fairly safe draft for those top 10 or so selections.

Don't expect many fans to agree and I'm not sure this is even possible but:
I think we should at least consider trading picks 5, 6 and maybe our second round pick for BOTH Jack Martin and Jesse Hogan. Both are considered top 3 prospects next year and address our two biggest needs: Speed/Skill/X-Factor of an outsider midfielder and a key forward.

2014 would become extremely exciting year for dogs fans with the possibility of 3 top 5 picks joining the side

I would also more realistically like to get at least one of these guys but wouldn't be against keeping all of our picks this year if we are outbid by Melbourne and Gold Coast who have better trade chips.

My rankings for "attainable" players:
1 Jack Martin - has Harley Bennell match winner potential
2 Jesse Hogan - best key foward prospect both this year and next
3 Sam Mayes - Great user of the ball, speedy, has size and is versatile
4 Jimmy Toumpas - very fast, good skills, kicks goals
5 Dayle Garlett - similar to Toumpas, has had some discipline issues from what I've read (good work rate though)
6 Jake Stringer - i am tempted to put him much much much higher but concerns about his explosiveness since broken leg. Kind of player you would hate to pass on
7 Brodie Grundy - Gun ruck prospect but not really a major need at the moment. I GWS pass on him anyway
8
9 Oliver Wines - good player but we have enough inside mids for now (Libba, Wallis, Clay Smith)
