So you'd just refuse to pick him on principle.
It's got nothing to do with principle. History tells you that just as many top ruckmen come from rookie drafts than top 10 selections. If Gawn doesn't make it by the time Jamar retires, I'd just trade for a 2nd ruckman at another club. I proved how successful that's been, but you wanna blow a top 4 pick on Grundy.

If Viney slips to second round, wouldn't mind getting Grundy. If not... tough call, depends what picks will be used for trades I guess.

Depends on what the FD thinks Watts can do as a forward when he fully builds up.

It's a toss up - Grundy's an absolute beast, weighs 100kg's but he has a lot of bulking up to do - has good skill and great follow up work for a big man.

He's raw but he probably has as much upside as Naitanui - without the explosive pace though.

Hogan has great attack on the footy in the air, average set shot though - reminds me of Hurley except not fat.

So in summary - Grundy.

Is Grundy more a forward or a ruck? I think the more pressing need is another power forward

I've seen brief youtube clips (which obviously never tell the whole story). He is a big lad

Grundy is a ruck - who's pretty capable up forward already; you might be able to get a great ruck from a late/rookie pick; but Grundy is a once in a generation (well, twice with Naitanui) athletic ruck prospect.

He's very aggressive as well.

He looks a big lad - but I've walked next to him (he didn't realize..) and he's certainly got some muscle to put on.

The other thing about Grundy is that commentators (in every year of his U18 Rep footy) are 'staggered' by how much he improves - sounds like the kid works very hard.

Grundy with Clark as his mentor would flourish IMO. Grundy has the ruck side of things pretty well covered (some of his tap work is a thing of pure beauty and his skills are fantastic for a guy of his size) Clark would teach Grundy everything he had learnt from Jonathan Brown. It would be very scary for opposing backlines trying to match up a guy of his size playing forward with Mitch at the same time in 3-4 years time.

Think they would be an outstanding duo.

The same people who have been bagging us for drafting skinny kids, ironically want to draft Grundy. I don't really care if we get him or not, if we do great we've got a great ruckmen and a suspect forward. If we don't we will get a proven quality mid. I'm confident whatever the decision, it will be the right one.

Here is some info I have come across that may be of interest:

Lynden Dunn will be offered a new 2 year deal.

Steph Martin will be traded, he wants to go and Neeld doesn't want him. Collingwood extremely keen to get him in the 'Leigh Brown' role.

Bate and Bennell to be delisted.

Petterd to be offered for trade with a couple of interested parties including the GC, but will be delisted if nothing is offered. He missed a recovery session after a Casey game a couple of weeks ago but his cards were marked over a month ago due to poor attitude and Neeld not liking him.

This same source may have confirmed last week that Cook would be delisted so I have no reason to doubt any of it. It's nothing ground breaking but interesting about Martin and Dunn. Anyway lads, all the best!
Needs moar Jizz news.

100kg's is light for an 18yo ruckman is it?

We dont really need to stock up on kids either. Neeld should know a bit about the younger mids worth pursuing on Collingwoods list.

I see what you're saying, but a mid-20s pick could be handy if we end up trading 3/4/14 for a mature recruit... or if we traded someone like Petterd, an extra mid 20~ pick could be a handy 'sweetener' to get us over the line in a trade.

Just thinking Grundy over, seeing as it seems likely he won't go top two contrary to discussions about a month or two ago - how about grooming Grundy and Clark as the two ruckman/forwards, a la Hale and Roughead (except hopefully better)?

Might be dire straits for Gawn should his knees not hold up and we draft him...

One thing, Grundy isn't skinny

good lord guys... i was reading posts from half way in looking at ppl frothing over grundy thinking wtf??? surely ppl dont rate heath grundy that highly he's a spud.... then i realised ur talking about this young beast... phew! looks alright, and we definitely need to secure a future ruckman. i reckon fitz will make it but more as a fwd target than a pure ruck. spencer and gawn could be anything but unsure how certain their futures are.

God no!

The only thing I'd take Heath Grundy for is a step ladder :D

*yes i realise he's playing in a strong finals contending team but even finals contenders carry a few spuds*

Mattner's face in that photo is classic.
I only know of Grundy what you guys have put up here, but is he really that good? We've got plenty of talls, granted Sellar, Martin and/or Spencil may not be on the list next year, so I'm not sure that drafting Grundy will really fill any holes (unless all 3 of those mentioned get cut/traded).

I ju
Jack Darling would be handy right about now.

Not all that sad to see Martin go, i dont see how he fits in our best 22 with Jamar Clark and Sellar playing a backline role with potential to chop out in the ruck, if we get something reasonable from magpie land for him i wont mind.
I cannot understand why Neeld doesnt try to mould Stef Martin into the other big power fwd...

what are peoples thoughts on jonathan o'rourke? had a very nice last game in the championships and is a great inside out midfielder, maybe pick 13?

I dont agree. good set shot, very athletic with a strong grab Needs to be taught a little more & an extra 5-6 kgs to his frame and could be used as a permanant CHF with Gawn & Russian permanant rucks. I just think Neeld is throwing the baby out with the bath water too quickly with Stef, Gys & Lucas Cook. The rest, we'll they've had there chances.
