That seems low, I wonder if they have an abnormally large concessional/junior numbers.
No idea.
Their standard, 11-home-game-reserved-seat membership is only $260 which is lower than most.
Quite possible that there are just a lot more on non-reserved-seat memberships, given there haven't been a lot of sell-outs and they look like dropping down this year.

Yeah, that is interesting, checked the membership package info and they have raised prices significantly of the premium memberships in recent years.
There is genuine risk of their membership out-selling what is available at the G. Let alone what's available for finals
License to print money.

It would be interesting if it impacted their gate revenue sharing agreements if that trend continued. If a significant chunk of say Collingwood vs Essendon is made up of Collingwood members rather than ticket purchases then it would diminish the appeal for say Essendon to share the gate if on the return leg Essendon supporters purchase significantly more tickets on the day.
Those memberships were being marketed (at one point) as being the only way left to get tickets to specific games - like ANZAC day.
Seems we're trying to emulate. (No idea if Carlton/Richmond are the same.)
If you can't beat 'em...

Plus, David Evans and The Ed go way back.
They'll work out a way to juice the market whatever happens.
(I should note, I'm not a fan of the locked-in-two-games-per-year: for any clubs)

People in Tassie are paying for those memberships. We're not hoping they find them at the bottom of their VU orientation showbag.

They don't count to our total so why does it bother you so much?

Wouldn't Collingwood be forced to cap their membership at what the MCG could realistically hold? This is what has the Crows and Eagles memberships with waiting lists.

That would be assuming every ticketed member turned up at the same time. They never do, so to exceed by 50% would not be a problem. Anyway, it would be Collingwoods issue, not the AFL.

Do all the Eagles members show up?

No. A closer example would be the Essendon situation at Docklands. It's about whether Collingwood want to force reserved seating for their games. Considering how few games per year they would have that are genuine sellouts I don't think it's worth worrying about for quite a while.

Doesn't the AFL have a rule that you can't sell more memberships than you have seating to accommodate?

Essendon get around it because they play their larger drawing games at the MCG. Geelong get around it because they play their bigger clashes in Melbourne.

I didn't believe it was optional. I could be wrong...

Eventually, if they continue rising, I'd expect that would come into play.

You'd hope they (first) change the 3-game memberships from sell-out chances to smaller games before doing anything against the 11-home-gamers.

Another way around this rule is to sell GA memberships 'subject to capacity', and advise members to upgrade to a reserved seat prior to potential sellouts. I recall hearing somewhere that Essendon want to make Etihad a proper home ground, where all tickets are sold to members with away supporters having to resort to the AFL Reserve or Medallion Club.

there is no afl reserve at etihad. you get general admission thats all.

Honestly they're probably expecting a significant drop off from last year and don't want to publicise it.

Yeah it's an interesting one. Not sure if we'll get as high as last year, but there should be a fair amount of enthusiasm with Bucks coming in and a list that should challenge.
