The issue wasn't the number of members, it was the number that attended the games given AAMI's financial model.

Correct me if I am wrong, SAers. But I believe AAMI has 3 membership categories. Port, Crows and Both and I believe both clubs claim the both category numbers. While I am sure both clubs profit equally from the 3rd category, I believe it is still heavily in favour of Crows supporters which accounts for the discrepancy between membership and attendance levels.

Yep pretty much spot on Tas, but its hard to get recent figures.

Around 2003/2004, a couple of years after the northern grandstand opened the figures and guestimates were:

1. old Category 1 now called Ultimate membership access to all 22 games
- approx 11,500 and approx split was 7,000 crows, 4,000 port and 500 real neutrals. These numbers are counted in both figures. The benefit was when GF tickets were apportioned based on club memberships. That's gone but the double counting continues and probably will at Adelaide Oval as the SANFL still wants that revenue stream.

2. old Category 2 now called Essential crows - 11 crows games - approx 5,000

3. old Category 3 now called Essential port - 11 port games - approx 3,000.

The SANFL used to publish that they had 19,500 members for several years at the start of the decade.

In their 2008 annual report the SANFL said they had 17,365 members. There has been a general decline in all 3 categories but a lot of crows supporting stadium members have transferred from access to all games to just crows games. In their 2009 and 2010 annual reports the SANFL said their membership numbers were down on the previous year but don't say how much.

Since 2007 the SANFL has tried to stem their membership drop as Footy Park has been on the nose and the push to get an inner city stadium. They introduced, cheaper junior priced stadium memberships for the first time, reciprocal rights with the MCG and other stadiums and also offering more access rights to SANFL games at suburban games, in a bid to give greater value for $$$.

Tigers on 32,000 now. With 7 and a half weeks until Round 1 and family day to come we'll sell at least 2,000 per week and with a bit of luck hit 50,000 by Round 1

Thanks for that info, yeah, I didn't think that category was massive but I felt people didn't take it into consideration when they were critical of Port's attendance levels.

We have a lot of SA and WA members and it is often a similar reason for us why we don't pull a strong crowd, especially against interstate clubs. The membership level can be a bit misleading, it represents a financial commitment more than an indication of how many you will get through the gate.

How does that compare to last year. Was thinking it should be up given a lot of Port people are pretty optimistic at the moment.

We were up by a fair bit (a bit over 1,000 or so) but its dropped off for some reason the past two weeks, not quiet sure why but we have dropped under last year. Have a feeling it may be due to the Automatic Renewels not being counted as of yet, and only being counted sometime in Feb (Perhaps earlier last year?)

Not really sure.

Anyway, at the current state we are a bit down on last year.

Brisbane: 13,106 - Jeeze, Jonathon Brown really deserves better than that.

Gold Coast aren't far behind Brisbane either. Just under 4000 members behind. GC just need to have a crack at the NAB and do better than Brissy and they'll probably overtake them.
