I hope so. Still worried we'll take the typical Richmond approach of thinking now that we've made the finals once we'll automatically just keep doing it and just naturally keep getting better. Talk of minimal list changes and drafting worries me and smacks of resting on our laurels and "locked and loaded" crap. Our ultimate downfall after 2001 & after 2008's so-called "best 9th ever".

People say we shouldn't give too much weight to today's result alone, but that's exactly what we should do. Finals is the ultimate litmus test of players & lists.

It's the defeats that need to be studied & learnt from moreso than the wins. The bad quarters in the wins too for that matter, because we had more than a few of them as well.
Hardwick, Hartley and Jackson will not allow that to happen, of that I am certain. They will know what is required to be done. Only real concern I have is with managing the salary cap TBH. It "may" stop us going out and doing what is required. But, having said that, I may be well off the mark.
But mark my words, they will know where we are lacking and will take appropriate action to fix it, of that there is no doubt in my mind.

Or multiple times guys marked the ball too far out to score, held onto the ball for too long so had no real options so they kick the ball to a pack, in the bloody goal square. What an absolute waste FFS:rolleyes:
Yep, my biggest disappointment for the year was our F50 entry strategy. It has to be sorted out over the upcoming pre-season or we will not get the ultimate prize we are looking for.

Agree totally. We can look back on the season and say it was another step or we can say that we were 32 points up in the third quarter of the Elimination and well on the way to playing an undermanned Sydney at Homebush.

If any player isn't bleeding that he decided to start Mad Monday at 4:30pm on Sunday then he should take himself off to Western Sydney or the Dees. I hope they look at this as a big wasted opportunity and use it to motivate themselves all the way through next year.

There is a lot to learn amongst yesterday's debacle. I hope we can heed the lessons. I'll back us to.

It would also mean Carlton jump into the top 6, and since we would vs them twice it would mean 0 or 1 of the actual top teams instead of the 2 or 3 it would have been. That is huge.
Yeah that's my point, the implications of that loss really help us for next year if true

What about the Bombers? Surely they still get the hard fixture grouping.
You would imagine that is why the afl made essendon finish ninth. It's the highest position without playing finals. So they aren't advantaged by falling into the bottom tier.
I don't think we're ready to play a. Season in the top tier. It could be a blessing in disguise

You know what shits me, an 80% fit Chris Judd can shit all over our team, his third quarter was amazing, really dragged Carlton over the line today.
Yep amazing footballer.I hope Cotch and the rest of our mids watch the 3rd qtr and see whats required to take their game to the next level.

Yeah that third quarter of his was simply amazing, I was so pissed off that we were leaking goals, but, at the same time kind of in awe of Judd and how he was just willing his team over the line, he was on another level and won so many crucial contests, no matter what we think of Judd as a person (mercenary etc) Judd the footballer is in the top echelon of midfielders, past and present.

Second half drop off was due to three reasons IMO:

1) Losing Conca early killed our rotations. Dusty needs regular breaks, and we had Newy/Sheds/Tuck who due to injury/games/age struggled to run out 4 quarters without some rest. Hindsight call would have been Foley for Shane Edwards, but given their respective 2013 form you would have been laughed at for that

2) I also think the first game nerves finally took hold. Adrenaline only gets you so far, and I think a week of nervous fatigue caught up with a few once the adrenaline passed.

3) Due to all of the above, we stopped running, and our defenders were left to be pillaged. If there was no more in the tank, why not leave more down back?

Good thing is with White/Knights coming back, our attack through HF improves a lot (and Sheds won't play that bad again). Another preseason into our young mids will do wonders. And the experience will be invaluable.

Still devastated, but now onto 2014

EDIT - I should also say congrats to the Blues. Wanted it more, outran us when it mattered, defied injury to keep the rotations and the game plan going, they were good. Special kudos though to Judd, reminded everyone why he gets the big dollars, was instrumental in the change.

Newman-One more year left in the tank,On the decline,Not in our starting 18 next year.
Grimes-Another year interupted by injury, looked and played liked he missed most of the year when he came back.No more injuries plz.
Deledio-You would have to say an average year by Lids,Needs to work both ways if he's going to take the next step.Question is,Does he have it in him?
Martin-Improved year by Dusty. Can be a game breaker,We just need him to play 4qtr football on a regular basis.
Ellis-Coming of age year by Ellis inparticular in the 2nd half of the year,Forget about not breaking a tag,He'll learn from it.
Grigg-So so year by Grigg,He's the type of player we need,Needs to work alot harder.
Jack-Hard to say what type of a year you'd put down for Jack,Mixed maybe. As for next year i hope we just let him do what comes natural to Jack
S.Edwards-Great 1st half of the season,Then fell away.Type of player who needs our Midfeild to be on top.
Pettard-Served his purpose as a depth player.Should be the same next year.
Houli-Solid year by Houli, key to our rebounding HB line.
Rance-Slow start to the year but came on solid for the rest of the year,Chaplins arrival helped.
Ivan-Down on last year but still a workhorse effort throughout.Needs help.
Tuck-Great servant to the club.Don't need to be the best skilled to play at the top level.G&D wins all the time.:thumbsu:
Jackson-Most consistant player of the year,Will win the B&F by a country mile.If only he had Lids skill,Or is it if only Lids has what Jacko has.;)
Chaplin-Been one of the reasons why we have improved this year,Good year.
A.Edwards-Right place at the right time with performances against GWS and Ess.Like Pettard will be a depth player only.
King-A bit like Newman,1 year left i feel,Ok year from him,but others will pass him next year.
Vickery-Probally our most frustrating player on our list and he played that way,Good, bad, ugly.Huge year coming up for TY.
Conca-Got better as the season went on,Stepped up in the middle,Must re-sign him.
Vlas-Nothing negative to say about this kid.Next captain i feel.
Cotch-Speaking of captains,Cotch like Lids had a quietish year by his standards,But i suspect he's been carrying a knee all year,Expecting him to be back to his best next year.
Those who missed out:
Foley-Looking grim going fwd into next year if he's still at the club.
Dea-1 more year to see if he can make it.
White-Who would have thought that we missed him yesterday. Our Sub specialist.
Bachelor-Very dissapointing,Might be put up for trade or be given 1 more year.
McGuane-Played well up fwd.problem was he could only manage it for the first 2 qtrs. Will be lucky to survive. If not then thanks for your service Luke.:thumbsu:

Lol KB still trolling on sen
He's a very funny man.
I cannot believe that people think he's fair dinkum.
Behind me yesterday on the last quarter sat these three nerds from Carlton.
" oh may canno way for tomorrow may"
" may Kevin barklett is gunna try slash his wrist may"
"Yeah may oh may this will be compulsive viewing may"

Newman-One more year left in the tank,On the decline,Not in our starting 18 next year.

I think Newman's defensive efforts are worth keeping him in the starting 18, and his disposal decisions and efficiency are excellent. Another year or two agreed, but I'd still have him running out with the starting 18 on current form.

Fair enough although starting 18 or not doesn't mean much these days,Pending when we kick the first goal.:D

Highlights:
winning round 1.
thrashing WCE, Adelaide, Port Adelaide away and beating Freo here
Ellis and Vlaustin.
Jackson

lowlights:
lids year.
loosing yesterday
Grimes injured early
Big Ben not developing as i think we all thought he would.
Knights injury.

overall a very positive year. We had some good recruits, developed players and made the finals.
My uncle said yesterday by the time he was my age (23) he had seen 5 Richmond Premierships!
Im predicting another record membership next year as well as more development and for us to finish 5th or higher.

I hope Newy might take Tucky's place in the green vest next season & come on have an impact for a quarter or two. As he is struggling to run out the games now. Noticed yesterday that he struggled to kick the ball more 40 meters yesterday, which was probably due to his lay off. Yet we can no longer afford players to be gifted games, no matter what their name is.

Also, hi to everyone on the boards here. I've been a Tigers supporter for way too long, but only discovered this forum recently.

Moving to footy.

Am I the only one who rankles slightly at the 'even spread' mentality? I agree that it's wonderful that we're building some depth, but I think that we're pushing it a bit too far. Some of our premium talent aren't really being used in the best way possible, and their return is suffering.

Deledio: A lot was made of the decision to send Deledio to one of Freo's key players (I can't remember who) in our first game against them this year, and how he had a selfless game and that from a team standpoint, this was a net gain. I can't help but feel that someone of Deledio's talent should be able to use that talent (leaving aside issues of shaking a tag).

Reiwoldt: I think that Jack has learned a lot this season, and the forward line is probably stronger as a result of him searching for, or creating other options. But he's our best key forward by a long margin, and I would like to play him in that role more often. There is a reason that teams / commentators are constantly talking about how necessary it is for teams to have a big forward for success, and it isn't so that they can create space for the second / third talls, or play up the ground. I think we should back Jack in, and run him out of full forward more often. Use the skills / danger of Vickery and McGuane/Edwards/Knights to pull their defenders away. They should be dangerous enough to keep their defenders honest and prevent them going third man up.

2014: With our probable easier draw now that we're 'middle six' I'd like to push for finals again next year, but do so on the back of a strong depth team alongside a few excellent players. I think Cotch (uninjured), Reiwoldt, Martin (with a bit more fitness and experience) have the talent to stand up and really excel like they've done (Cotch / Reiwoldt when he leads instead of muscles), or have the potential to do (Martin).

Going to love watching Floss / Conca / Ellis continue to develop. It'll be interesting to see who really stands up next year. (Last year I thought was Houli / Cotch, this year was Rance and Jackson. I'm almost tempted to add Morris, but I thought he was given and absolute bath on Sunday).

GO TIGES

he struggled to kick the ball more 40 meters yesterday

He was also playing injured (ankle) which can't help. He's normally a thumping kick, and there isn't anyone in the side I'd rather have the ball in the hands of for a set shot outside 50.

I agree that his tank might be running a bit dry late, but that might be a result of him pushing further up this year than he has previously.

Can I just say be cautious when traveling to other boards as every time I've left them, I've felt a lot worse. We really need to remember how strong we're becoming as a team and fan base, when I saw Carlton's banner read 50,000 members it put into perspective how we're on our way to becoming the biggest club in the AFL once again. And in a way it's a compliment that Carlton supporters are saying that's the biggest win they've had for 10 years, 3 years ago they wanted us removed from rnd 1. Their list is aging and we'll have a good 5-7 years of inflicting misery on them, there's comfort in that.

How shit was their banner???? #Believe.

Ours was amazing, class of 2013, and the two big tigers on the other side with our stats. Was amazing.
Haha yeah, believe is such a negative term, it's saying I know you've seen no proof, but believe anyway. **** off with your ****ing # shit too.

You beat me to it Greggy!!!!

In sticking with the title of the thread .
6/10 .
Coming into the season my expectations by seasons end were :
- we would make finals but not win one .
- Ellis , Batchellor , Helbig , Griffith, Arnott , O'hanlon would be comfortably be in our best 22 by seasons end .
- 2012 part timers Nahas , McGaunne would be out of our best 22 whilst players of the Tuck , Grigg and Shane Edwards ilk would be ver much form dependent .
- Vickery would spend at least 50% of the time within the ruck .
Real competition for spots , no tolerance to half arsed games .

Negatives :
Griffith , Batchellor , Astbury , Helbig , O'hanlon and Arnott I have real concerns that they will not make it , they have alarmingly stagnated .
As a result our 18-22 best players are players with no upside .
We now have players within our best 22 existing/ retiring and to improve that is going to have to happen at a decent rate . Where are the players with upside going to come from ??
Players were still within the side despite poor games on end .
Our forward set-up
Vickery

Positives :
Jackson , Martin , Jack's ability to adopt new role , Morris continuation , Ellis , Vlaustin .
