Midfielders have the ability to go forward and crumb packs & be just as good as Milne & have the flexibility of running through the middle.

Milne was a once in a lifetime small forward, if you actually look at the stats of small forwards over the years you'll find that it's a bit overrated, most don't make it.

Midfielders resting forward is a much safer option.

Mate I'm the first person in the line of people to kick small forwards I think they are the most over rated parts of a list , in saying that some players are better left inside the 50 most of the day

But yeah no I agree modern footy is heading towards your mids going forward an kicking goals

Which means kent tapscott Nicholson Jetta blease Etc hav to be good in the midfield

I agree with Roos.

All hail Roos

I don't give a stuff who he picks as long as we start winning and competing!!!

Think there's some players on our list that won't last long though, it's time for all supporters to start letting go of mediocrity.

Onwards & upwards. :)

Correct. You can't coach speed - it is a valuable attribute that players either have or dont.
Yes but you need intelligent coaching to use it to its best impact. And to use it best in the context of what the team needs. And a blistering 50m run is no use at all if you turn the ball over at the end of it.

Speed without good coaching is just showing off.

I've put my coaching hat on.

My 2014 team:

There is a rumour getting around that we won't get pick 1 PP but will get picks 2 & 3.

We need leadership, mids & quality disposers. Roos has said he'd like to trade for two experienced mids with early picks.

Pick 2: David Swallow- is contracted but wants to come closer to his brother in vic. Club has spoken to him. Skilful mid & leader.

Pick 3: Scott Selwood-is contracted but wants to be closer to his brother in vic. Club has spoken to him & WCE won't give him up easily.

Pick 19: Luke Dunstan

Free agent: Daniel Cross

PSD: Taylor Adams(won't happen)

Going on from the above trade scenarios I think they would represent great trades from our perspective.

I think we could get all of those players listed with a slight change to the trades & pending us being granted a PP immediately after our 1st round selection.

#2 - GWS in exchange for Taylor Adams & their compo pick #9

#3 - GC in exchange for David Swallow

#9 - WCE in exchange for Scott Selwood

This I think represents the more accurate value of each player & would still leave us with an early 2nd rnd pick to use on the best remaining mid, while also leaving that PSD selection open & the possibility of adding a Daniel Cross as the FA.

Whilst it isn't impossible to lure Adams via the PSD I think it's unlikely.

If we were to add Adams, Selwood & Swallow we have significantly addressed the quality of our midfield & especially our contested ball winners.

Perfect scenario for mine. Tweet it to Roosy.

If we couldnt get them all, I'd be least attached to swallow, yet to see any evidence he will be elite.

Yep, above would be great.
Certainly it appears the club will target:- Adams T (GWS), Swallow D (GC) and poss Atley S (NM)
during trade period. Selwood S (WC) and Kelly J (MFC shown interest in him last year in mini draft, but was overlooked) would also be in the mix.
Mumford/Jolly - Roo's has history with these 2 players so could be interesting.

Atley is signed for another 2 years, doubt he'd want out when they were close(ish) to finals this year

Yes, DoP came in to brag (surprise surprise) and people creamed their tweeds prematurely
Not a huge fan myself. Has great potential but I personally believe he should be doing a bit more by now. Mind you like we're one to talk :)

Re. Priority Pick - can safely say end of Round 1 (if at all).

Demetriou on SEN yesterday accidentally let slip that Boyd would be going to GWS...that wouldn't be the case if Melbourne got 1st pick.

We might get one directly after ours , a mid first rounder or end of first round .. I never expected us to get the first

I'm not sure taking Jolly back would be a good idea for us. He's been at 3 clubs, He's getting on, we have Jamar, Gawn, Spencer and Fitzy, and we need to address our midfielders. Why on earth are people constantly talking about recruiting rucks!?

If you want to address our rucks, Then Get Sam Newman in to coach them in the ruck.

I just heard we may be looking at the old Ben Hudson move here. Rookie draft and job as a coach.

I didn't think Demetriou made the decision about the priority pick on his own? I thought the entire commission does this and they haven't even met to discuss it yet?

Has Swallow shown enough to be worth pick 3? Sure he hasn't tailed off as much as Watts has, but there could be someone else out there in the competition more worthwhile. Unless we got something else from GC on top of that.
