Melbourne's request for a priority pick in the national draft is in the spotlight.
But before one is given away, let's consider Melbourne's history with the priority pick. In the past 10 years, the Demons have had three, and used them to select Colin Sylvia, Sam Blease and Tom Scully. Sylvia has been the best of the bunch. In 2010, he was on the verge of being an elite player, averaging 96 fantasy points a game. But he has slid backwards.
Blease showed promise in his first two years, but was poor in 2013, playing just 10 games and averaging only 31 fantasy points a game. Scully had two promising seasons with Melbourne before jumping ship and joining Greater Western Sydney.
Carlton has had four priority picks in the same period and used them to select great on-field performers Andrew Walker, Matthew Kreuzer and Marc Murphy, while Shaun Hampson has failed to reach those heights.
The Western Bulldogs acquired Adam Cooney and Ryan Griffen, the Tigers landed Brett Deledio and Alex Rance. More recently the Eagles snared Luke Shuey and Jack Darling.
All things considered, it poses the question: why have none of Melbourne's priority picks reached the standard of these players? The numbers simply don't support the Demons' case for a priority pick.
Aside from the 'what Priority Pick should/will we get' discussion..
is it just me, or is this the shittest article of the year from The Age;
Dees fall short of priority pick

How on earth is this printed in our national paper??
Measuring their performances on "fantasy points"
Fantasy land
We had the NAB rising star in Dean Terlich, based on fantasy points.
I am actually in the office laughing, is this really an article? I tell you journalism has always been bad but this is terrible. What has that go to do with the price of eggs? because our priority picks haven't been as good as the other clubs?
Go back and look at most of our young kids since then, there haven't been many that have actually developed into super players, if they had then we wouldn't be having this convo.
Any of those 3 would have developed into guns at the right club, unfortunately it wasn't our selections but the rest of the coaching staff and development team.
I couldn't see a PP come in under Roos and failing.
I'm dumber for having read that.Aside from the 'what Priority Pick should/will we get' discussion..

It's not just our PPs, its our whole list which has been underdeveloped. Hence 2 wins & 50%.
Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees.
Just to humour this muppet though, Blease was 2nd round and copped a broken leg, Scully was poached in an AFL sanctioned move and Sylvia has always been one of our better players in a struggling team. I don't mind constructive counter-points but this is just tripe.
Furthermore, what is his ultimate point? We shouldn't get a PP because based on our history, ignoring our whole over-hall as a club, we won't use it to good effect? Ridiculous and irrelevant argument. Under Roos, we could develop a youngster well or trade the pick. My god talk about taking liberties with your rubbish.

The PP system is part of AFL legislation and is a system just like the national draft. Many teams have wasted national draft picks 1 way or the other but we aren't arguing that their picks should be revoked because of it. The PP is no different. Just like the ND, the PP has a specific purpose and like the ND prior history is irrelevant. Yes, the AFL has made it a discretionary system now but it is a system none-the less that was brought in for a very simple reason that people can't get their collective heads around. If we've made no progress in 2 years time under what appears as a stable admin and top line FD team - then I can see it being relevant

I miss the Age pre-Gina. When it was a broadsheet, written for a reading level of 9, rather than 6 like the Sun.

He is still in the legends room at the gabba screaming like a drunk school girl.2 hours later, no Wona.
Did Brisbane have a free Bundy day and the city is sinking under the vomit...

I'd say the fact that the pussy wants out of NM after one year (if true) indicates that Neeld was right on the money with booting Gysberts.Should never have left, i was rabid about it at the time and the trade only looked worse all year. Mark Neeld made that many bad decisions my god.
