I see him playing most games and starting round 1. He is what we need and gives us some experience in what is a very inexperienced team.
Experience counts for nothing if you're a worse ball-user than Boyd, and he proved last week that he's just not up to being a sole ball-winner.

If we plan on playing Lower, Boyd, Cross, Wallis, Libba, Smith and Stevens in the same team I may just kill myself. Five of those are almost guaranteed games (Boyd, Cross, Wallis, Libba, Smith), and on top of that you'd simply have to fit Cooney (if fit), Griffen, Higgins, Dahlhaus and Picken somewhere in that midfield. Hunter, Hrovat, Howard and Macrae all breathing down their necks for game time as well. I just can't see how he fits in there consistently...and if he starts in the team, he's no guarantee to stay there. Whether he stays there or not, Steven has much better job security in his team. He's the safer pick, and is scoring very, very well this pre-season.

Already done one on the buldogs board best 22
Your team:

Picken - Morris - Wood
Higgins - Williams - Howard
Boyd - Wallis - Cross
Cooney - L.Jones - Dalhaus
T.Campbell - R.Murphy - Gianciracusa

Roughead - Libba - Griffen

Bench: N.Lower, Addison, Grant, Stringer, Macrae, Hrovat ect

For starters Lower isn't guaranteed games in your side, named on a six-man bench, with Macrae and Hrovat earmarked to play early games and Addison a favourite. Smith has torn up the pre-season and will be in there. No Minson, Dickson, JJ, Markovic who will all likely play.

Doubts on stevens.

Higgins will play forward, dont think otherwise

The young kids have to still prove themselves that could start this week in Nab
Higgins is training with the midfield and has been training with the midfield for the entire pre-season, as well as playing midfield in his NAB Cup matches.

Young kids in Hrovat, Macrae, Hunter, yes. Wallis, Libba, Dahlhaus etc are without doubt amongst our best players (think all three finished top ten or close in our B&F?) and will play every game if fit.

Havnt heard forward players training with the midfield group before just to take their fitness to a greater level so they dont take the normal small forward easy role. Ive been at a club that is VFL level in comparison and alot of small forwards naturally trained with the midfield group a) to understand structure b) to not go through emotions c) improve fitness d) if required they have an understanding.

Admittingly not long after that i remember saying i forgot Clay smith. Minson would be in my side as at the time i didnt realise how settled the club was on Roughy down back.

Lower is first named on the bench for a reason.

Heres my team, updated from 2 months ago.

Picken - Morris - Wood

Goodes - Roughead - Cross

C.Smith - Wallis - Liberatore

Cooney - Murphy - Dalhaus

T.Campbell - L.Jones - Gia

Minson - Boyd - Griffen

Lower, Dickson, Higgins

1 of Stevens, Hroavt, Macrae as sub

Why is he being started on the wing in matches firstly, and secondly there have been videos and articles from the club stating that this year is the year he will start to play more midfield than he does up forward.

Alright, I'll go through and put a team together based on who has to play round 1 if fit:

FB: Morris Roughead ________
HB: Goodes _______ Johannisen
C: Griffen Boyd Cooney
HF: Dickson Jones Giansiracusa
FF: Dahlhaus _______ Murphy
R: Minson Smith Liberatore
INT: Wallis Cross Picken SUB: _______

So you've got five spots to fill, one being the substitute. You've got Williams, Cordy, Lower, Stevens, Grant, Addison, Markovic, Higgins, Wood, Young, Hrovat, Howard, Talia and Pearce around the mark of a best 22 appearance. Lower can't play CHB or FF, so that leaves a couple of options:
  1. Play back pocket - won't score highly.
  2. Play Cross/Picken at BP and start Lower on the bench - would need to prove to be a better midfielder than Cross (doubtful at this point in time) or a better tagger than Picken (unlikely at this point). Is also competing with Stevens, Higgins, Hrovat and Howard for this position.
  3. Start Lower as substitute.
  4. Don't start Lower at all.
You might be right, he might play every game - but you can't deny that there are a lot of people pushing for his position, compared to Steven who is likely to hold his place in the team through most of the season.

Lewis, martin or Robinson atm I have Lewis up forward seems more fitter n trimmer
Probably Martin but all 3 have their problems

Lewis is prone to missing games and doesnt score super high
Martin fades in the second half often, and it happened in the nab cup
Robinson can play fwd tagger which makes him dish out some deplorable scores, but who knows with Malthouse,

One spot left in the midfield, do I pick
1) chris judd or
2) mundy from freo?

Think now the captaincy is gone juddy might just go bang

What - when he's not injured... Which he is, again.....

yeah would say fyfe personally.

Boak vs Steven
feel both are in for pretty big years. I think boak is the better player but is likely to cop numerous tags throughout the season, so im leaning towards steven. thoughts?
