The option of adding another Rookie to the midfield and adding another premium to the forward line is tempting - but I'll need to give it more thought. I could switch my midfield to a 5/0/5 and my forward line to a 4/2/2 seeing as there are many more options in the mid field. I've got a few of the big scorers from last season but IMO being able to save 100,000 for someone who will perform almost as well enables me to improve all around the ground HOPEFULLY generating bigger scores

So you were going to run 6/0/4 in the mids....
wow

but but Jaeger, Wines, Whitfield, Viney, Crouch!!! So many guns

One of the teams I have is 6/0/4. Wines and Whitfield are quite expensive for rookies and aren't guaranteed to score all that well; Sheedy has also stated that Lachie won't play every game this season and will be rested. He's very lean. I still think Crouch will get the vest and won't score that well even without it. Viney handballs a lot I believe, but will probably score well, while Jaeger should score well but is far from a points guarantee.

The team I have at the moment runs a 5/1/4 structure; that's probably my preferred one right now.

I don't buy the Sheedy crap

The kid is a gem and absolutely in their best 22

Plus he's an absolute ball magnet seagull perfect for DT

No use being in your best 22 if you play them too much and they cop a severe injury. The kid has a very lean build, and will be ravaged early by the Giants' aggressive game style. Too much of a risk at ~$180k in my opinion, but that's not to say you shouldn't pick him. Just my opinion.

The Western Derby

Chris Masten - WCE (436,000) vs Nathan Fyfe - FREM (458,500)

Was sold on Masten but he's carrying a knock so I'm worried it might effect his output

As an Eagle fan and a Masto fan, I'd go Fyfe. Just an absolute jet...though reckon Masten will be considered a very good player by the end of this year.

Another in the price range to consider is Jack Steven. Huge PS numbers per min played...I think he's more of a SC pick but def consider with the Saints early draw.

Fyfe vs Masten

Fyfe is a classier player but Masten is death by 1000 chip kicks.

Masten played 22 games last season, so on top of having more midfield time this year, there's also better chance he won't get injured compared to Fyfe

Fyfe because he doesn't look like he marches in the mardi gras.

But seriously, I would go Fyfe given we have trades to burn and should average 105ish.

A Halloween gift - a trick or treat.

I've taken risks elsewhere, I'm not prepared to take the leap of faith with Fyfe.

with these so called gun mid rookie options he's an easy down grade... i'll play team fyfe and then give
whitfield/missed rook a look in if it doesn't bare fruit early...

I'm thinking of doing something similar with a player that's around Fyfe's price point for M5 or M6. Purely based on their first few opponents and their previous high scoring records against those teams..

Dal Santo v J McVeigh ?

I've pretty much decided that it will be my main strategy this year. Pick a 3-4 players that I think will go BANG in the first few rounds and go on a 22 round trading frenzy based on players draws. At least I won't run out of trades doing it this year. Just a matter of getting the players right, which is easier said than done.

Longer, Leuy, LeCras vs S. Jacobs, Gorringe, Neade/Lee.

My rucks are the last piece of the puzzle and it will determine what I can spend in terms of having another forward.

Cox and Currie are locks in the ruck for me and Rowe is a lock as a foward emergency for the DPP link.

Byrnes vs Varcoe vs Karnezis?

I have them ranked... Karnezis > Byrnes > Varcoe
I cant see anything in Varcoe - when he has a shade over his shadow following him around he goes missing horribly way too often.

in six years of senior footy he's tonned up twice...

I think Varcoe has the best JS at the moment, but I don't think he impacts the game enough. Just doesn't get involved in the game enough to build up big scores. I think Karnezis has the most upside, but Byrnes may be the safer bet.

Will be watching the NAB final closely to see how Karnezis goes, as he's currently in F5 for me....

I agree i will be watching closely this weekend. Good points about Varcoe being an impact player. Price probably wont rise by a hell of alot and he is coming back after virtually a year out. So will probably decide between Byrnes & Karnezis.

yes he has tonned up twice, he has also never played as a halfback in all that time that i can recall, he has predominantly been in a team where he has played half fwd, deep forward (very little time in the middle).
very very different roles in terms of SC scoring capability

No doubt will kill it in SC this year, but is a pass for me as far as DT goes.

I probably just don't rate him at all...but good luck with it.
