It hasn't been a great start to the season but to be honest we would still have melbournes measure ;). P.s if your the smac im thinking of you should worry about getting a kick instead of trying to put a club down that is going through a rough patch after years of sitting near the top

Shaq good to hear u boys haven't lost ur sense of humour!

Bit rough there smac - first post and couldn't construct a sentence properly - maybe ur second post will be better!

Which club are u from?

Yeah but not at FF for those blokes BOC (and stuyd - like I said, FF is one position where age is irrelevant imo, seen big fat bastards dominate games out of here let alone a bloke in reasonable nick. Age is just a birth certificate, has no bearing on ability imo) - I'm not downplaying his efforts but the bloke could seriously play in his day. Div 2 footy would be pretty straight forward for him, no matter how many blokes sitting on him. I'm sure in a side that is winning by as much as you are currently he is getting better than average delivery too - its not Plugger Lockett playing for the saints circa 1985 where he won everything off his own bat I imagine! Look, good luck to him (and Robina) but to my mind it would be no different to putting Fev in the mix in the O&M league and just dominating (which he is). I think we occasionally forget that there is a significant step up from division to division and the better players make it look pretty easy sometimes.

smy1305,
agree with many of your comments here. But disagree with your comments on the age thing. Not many players are still playing senior footy at say Fultons age (37), regardless of the standard of the comp..... in fact most of this age group play in the magoos for a club.He kicked 80 plus goals for Surfers in div 1 last year, and missed 3 or 4 games..all things going well, he may get 100 goals this year in Division 2..
I dont know the guy personally, but he obviously loves his footy , and good on him to be able to play and perform, even at division 2 level, at his age.He has kicked some 1000 goals plus in his career, and is a credit to the game. Robina must be loving having him at the club,,,

Gee whiz Stuy - not sure about that - there are many blokes still playing local footy (and playing really well) at that age. Some play in the midfield but most play at either end of the ground where the legs are saved and footy smarts will win you a kick. Look at Dickfos - still was Sandgate's best tall last year really aside from Forbes. TBH I would be amazed if a guy like Fulton could not kick 100 goals for the next 5 years in Div 2 - as you get older its only your speed that goes backwards and reflexes but then in his case it only brings him back to the blokes he is playing against. Mugavin the same. As a general rule the reason guys retire at this age isn't bc they can't get a kick but bc their body is smashed up or they decide there are better things in life to do.

Even though i didn't get to Yeronga on Friday night I hear the Caboolture coach was not happy with my favourite people those muppets in orange. Is there any truth to this rumour??????

Shaqs, being a bit touchy. If its the same Smac, he never struggled getting a kick. The Vikings Right Now, need players like him at the club.

When a team gets done by 80 points it's not he umpiring. Can't play a game without them.

I think the coach had words with an umpire who yellow carded a player but didn't walk the player off and let the interchange stewards know what was going on. Complaint was pretty straight forward, if you don't know what's going on and simply assume its a 15 minute yellow card when its not you end up putting yourself in it. It had nothing to do with a subjective decision, just a failure to follow procedure.

Fults could easily tear the div 2 up for years to come if he so wished & the body held up ok. :thumbsu:

where to for poor old Wynnum? Wouldnt be suprised if we see them start forfeiting games in the near future it cant be easy turning up every week & having cricket scores kicked against you. Hope they hold it together, rebuild in the off season :thumbsu:

If that's the case it's fair enough. There are procedures which need to be followed

Gee things are quiet on here - makes me sick - looks like the worse thing we could of done is beat yeronga as good mate devil seems to have gone particularly quiet ;)

quarter of the way through the year and at this early stage id say its hard to get a read on a few of the mid table teams. Aspley dusted the kings but havent won since, 4th - 10th looks fairly even and even though they havent got a win up Caboolture would be looking forward to playing shaq and his boys this weekend!

We cant wait to come up against the kings in 2 weeks time to get another real gauge of where we are at.

Anyone else want to share there thoughts so far? surprises? top 5? how many the chunk brothers will kick on the weekend? give me something.... im actually having to do some work with the lack of bigfooty action..

BOC firstly compared to last year this thread is almost equally commented on as the Div 3 one, step up IMO. Next on the agenda the Robina reserve grade: I watched the Redcliffe game from a biased midfield point of view and the Roos were close to perfect with their clearance work, kudos to whoever sets the plays/structures. In regards to Wynnum it's fine to have a crack at their results, as it is to credit the top sides but let's not question the character of the guys that are turning up, that's commitment that could see them add half a dozen top players and turn it around in a heartbeat!
As for 35+ yr olds playing well, no shock there, as I think SMY said, it's more of a body/injury/life situation thing as opposed to age, the seniors in Div 2/3 are largely made up of aging champions and future star prospects, the more Fulton/Mugavins running around, the better chance of developing quality backmen - big picture. Apologies for the rant, haven't been on for a while..

Mate definitely agree regarding wynnum - goes to show what difference blokes like Mansfield and alloway to name a cpl can make. As already mentioned there 18s are going well and as I've said before props to the jimboomba boys who filled in when we played them. Hopefully they see the year out, enjoy having a beer and do it all again next year!

I think the league has done a good job at getting the right mix of teams in this div - unfortunately I don't agree with the way the roster is set up as per one of my first comments on here 12 teams over 16 rounds is never going to be perfect.

Interesting to hear ur feedback on our game - I didn't play that week personally but can see we have tried to address areas where we felt uni and kings exploited us last year in the finals.

I think both comps are very open and let's be honest - at least from a reserves perspective it's nice to not see uni pulling everyone's pants down!!

The competition changes certainly were questioned early but I agree it's turning out to be a good comp. I won't divulge specifics but ur ressies guys that day looked like they had plans, backed them & executed them! It's a long way off but can't wait to see the top 5, & the finals matches...looking like camera worthy footy ahead!
As for the draw...joke! I get the balance but the fact that teams can play twice before they meet others once wtf?
Umpiring is getting a run on the forums of late, when I played, consistency shut me up, & there does seem to be a fair variance in interpretation, in saying that, footballers can make poor decisions so it's all part of the game!

I actually caught the last qtr of that game also & noticed the roos reserve grade were extremely efficient. There ruckman was a gun along with a couple tall forwards, depth doesnt seem to be a problem at the roos?

Kings vs Roos should be a cracker of a game :thumbsu:

To be honest its reserve grade footy and with the changes in players each week theres nothing too elaborate going on - its not a hell of a lot more complex then asking the ruckman where he thinks he can hit it :)

Yeah look its been well documented weve got a cpl of handy talls in the 1's which has seen the 2's get access to some good players - our depth is good with a div 4 team where even blokes are missing out each week - which was a bit of a worry given the emergence of carrara as an option for blokes wanting to have a kick.
Yeh we are ticking along nicely but anyone thats ever been associated with footy knows they dont give cups out in may and ur only 1 or 2 injuries away from structures being effected so theres a long long way to go yet.

Regarding the draw i dont know what the other options are hey - if the AFL cant get it right it makes it difficult to expect AFLQ to have a div 2 comp with complete fairness!

Go to be back! (overseas for 3 weeks on the honeymoon!)

Looks as if BOC's Blokes have the comp wrapped up after round 4?

Look i am the first bloke to bag umpires cos at times they make you shake your head or want to cry,
but if the blokes in the AFL dont have any idea what they are doing ! what chances do moro and his fellow whistle blowers in Div 2 have?

Apart from robina and yeronga i agree the rest of the comp looks fair even!

i will be down at training tonight to have a look at the fellas have a run around and to chew the fat with the old boys! no really sure whos playing well etc?

in regards to 16 round season , i really think its a joke TBH , like how do we decide who plays other teams twice before a ball has even been bounced? i mean i would feel robbed if you go Robina Yeronga Cooparoo twice ? and in saying that (other then bigfooty) how would you expect robina who avent played finals in 2 season in the comp to go to the level they have?

IMLOyou should play everyone twice , home and away (simlar to the EPL concept) weather that means this season playing 22 games , (less practice games) or next season depending on the number of teams considering wynumm , and redcliffe have hadly been competive maybe a 10 team comp 18 rounds that would work perfect.

I think there is merit in a relegation / promotion type arrangement between the div 2 and 3 comps.

AFLQ obviously has a vest interest in locations and some would argue we are headed towards a north / south conference type arrangement, but I cant help but wonder how strongly the funding for the ground and facilities at Cab helped prompt them to be promoted again to div 2 after not exactly dominating div 3 since there relegation.

Redcliffe won the comp so think they have earnt the right to compete.

But agree a 10 team comp with 18 rounds that started earlier in April and possibly finished a week later with a final 6 is a fairer comp then 12 teams 16 rounds and a final 5.

In response to your above comment Steamer? How is it that Redcliffe have hardly been competitive?? Yes it might take us a little while to adjust to division 2, but that being said we only lost to Kenmore by 11 points (I'm pretty sure they finished 3rd last year). And though I admit we have a way to go to match it with the likes of Robina, we hardly got our pants pulled down... Didnt Yeronga lose to Robina by a similar margin? In no way am I implying that Redcliffe are on par with Yeronga, I just wonder on what you based your assessment of Redcliffe?

Having only played 4 games this season, and not having any knowledge of the teams we haven't played yet apart from Nambour (as they were in our division last year), I am not here to make any bold statements, but I do take offence to your comment about Redcliffe being 'Noncompetitive'!!

That being said, I agree that 12 teams and 16 games is not ideal, and we are one of the 'lucky' teams that get to play both Robina and Yeronga twice. But if you want to get the best out of your team you need to play the best teams. So bring on the weekend!

Bondy - whilst entilted to his opinion i think stanley may have gone a little hard on the duty free he brought back!

As i said you boys won div 3 so definately deserve your spot and our boys definately new they'd played a game after the road trip.

imagine the kings would be loving this - they have won the last 2 flags as "underdogs" - traditional slow starters, they will play finals and wouldnt surprise me if they are there gf day in both grades!
