We won't get much change from pick 2 for Shiel if GWS have their heads screwed on. Unless he has specifically requested a trade home (which hopefully he would if we dangled a $350k carrot at him) they will be playing hard ball over a contracted, best 22 player who they surely don't want to lose.

Yeah, him for #2 is a fair swap though - and there was an article about him wanting out of GWS in the Australian.

It was a bad day all round for the Giants, who not only lost out on Franklin but are understood to have been told by rising star midfielder Dylan Shiel that he wants to be traded to a Victorian club.

Maybe we can take someone like Bugg off them too if he isn't in their plans.

Yep. Ideal would be Shiel and Bugg for 2 and 21 and Adams walking into the PSD. Adds Shiel, Bugg, Adams and potentially Zac Jones with our Sylvia compensation to the midfield next year. Then Chapman and Cross potentially too. Would be fantastic, even if we didn't pull off Adams.

If that's what it takes i'm not sure I want him.

All the talk about Shiel is fair enough & if that's who we've decided to target with #2 so be it but I think it's an extreme longshot to think that we will get Adams.

Adams has refused to sit down & speak with us by all reports so it would take a large change on his behalf for him to be at Melb next yr.

As for Bugg, he is a meh player & I think we would be better off looking elsewhere.

I also think Shiel is contracted to the end of 2015, but I could be wrong?

Sewell on the market, according to this article:

http://www.watoday.com.au/afl/afl-news/sewell-on-the-market-20131007-2v4e3.html

But, then, if you actually read the article, it all sounds like a bit of faff.

Could be handy in a mentoring role at the dees, but doesn't sound like he wants to go to a non-contending side. Also, the issue will be that clubs probably won't be prepared to part with much for him, hence it would be hard to do a deal to satisfy the hawks.

Also, I don't really buy the whole 'free up salary cap' argument they're peddling - Buddy just left FFS. Surely that's freed up a considerable chunk?

Sewell is still a good player, however if we're going after Cross we should be careful not to over-compensate with old, slow midfielders who aren't great kicks.

Yeah, you would go for one or the other. Not both.

Josh Mahoney on SEN this morning said that we're not in the running for Taylor Adams.
Yeah he was advised by his manager to have a good look at an increased offer but as I have said previously we were always behind a few other clubs.
Plus I imagine increase offer, increase manager payments :)
From what I've heard we don't have a great chance a Shiel however keep an eye out for a couple of young kids who aren't really enjoying Sydney and could be talked into a trade (some contracted).

Name them!

I'd imagine it would have to involve Parker as a starting point but who else, Lamb, ?, ?, ?

Sorry meant GWS but not liking Sydney the city. O'Rourke and Jaksch are the two big ones I mentioned months ago. Outside of that I would only be guessing on rumour. An educated guess is Treloar could be coaxed out for decent cash. Would be overs but that's how you get them.
