What are the chances someone else picks Dugan now the cat is out of the bag?

What cat and what bag?

You think the recruiters didn't know all this about him?

I've stated to a select few. Gold Coast is the big threat for him to go earlier, but GWS and WCE have some interest also.

I think he gets through though. At this stage.

what about caleb Daniel for pick 52
seems like a very good player could have a lewis taylor thing going on ..
being so small makes him slip right down the order.. but I rekon that small can be an advantage to a certain degree
I hope we take him, only at 52 if there's no one else we like there left, but definitely wouldn't risk missing out on him in the rookie draft where others have earlier picks. I know Ben Cavarra looked to be a similar option last year and was overlooked even on the rookie list, but his disposal wasn't as good as Daniel. After Cavarra has smashed it for Frankston this year his coach is already planning for next year without him next year as he's pretty sure he'll get picked up.

Anyone for Clem Smith as a replacement for Kingy as that defensive small forward/hard nut role?

What I don't understand is we said we want inside grunt first and pass second. Isn't Duggan neither of them?

I've definitely come around on Duggan and would love us to get him, but he's not an inside mid and he's not quick. So neither of the things we stated we wanted?

This makes me a little scared we are going to to take Ellis whether or not Weller and Duggan are there. If we want a genuine inside mid get Blakely, hes a jet.

You'd reckon Duggan is as slow as a wet week reading through here.
He's not.
And his calmness makes him quicker than most anyway.
I have no idea who we are looking at just like everyone else but I'm certainly not concerned about Duggans pace.

But he is class and you cant pass on class or youll look like an arse

I have taken this straight from oneeyedrichmond.com Thanks to One-Eyed (the moderator on that forum) for the research.

"From twitter:

Brett Anderson has Gold Coast going for Weller then Cockatoo then Langford at 8 (if Pickett, DeGoey & Laverde are gone before their pick).

Callum Twomey has the Eagles tossing up between Duggan or Weller.

Sam Landsberger says the "Tiges, Eagles and Roos all like Liam Duggan".

Emma Quayle says West Coast, Richmond, Adelaide and maybe Gold Coast too in the mix for Nakia Cockatoo."

I think that Pickett will go at 4 to GWS and De Goey to Collingwood at 5.

Whilst GWS will potentially take Laverde, I have them taking Wright and Goddard. Or maybe Lever and Goddard.

I do think one of Laverde, De Goey or Pickett will fall to Gold Coast at 8.

I think that the WEagles will take Duggan (just on the basis of @rodneydanger comment and Callum Twomey's comments above). I think Weller will fall to us. Certainly one of Duggan, Weller and Cockatoo.

I just hope to god if Weller and Duggan are both gone we take Cockatoo over Ellis.

Gold Coast won't take Weller at 8. After leaving his brother out to dry to St Kilda. Lachie went to live in Gold Coast to be with his brother. He has stated he wants to be in Victoria. If Weller got to Gold Coast at 15 then it may be a very different story.

I'm pretty sure we will Go Duggen over both Weller and Cockatoo.
I think if Weller goes to Geelong and West Coast bite on Duggen then we would seriously look at Cockatoo.

I think our preference for 12 is:
  1. Duggan
  2. Weller
  3. Ellis
  4. Cockatoo

The more I think about the more I have come to the conclusion our most important signing is Dusty in terms of our future prospects. He is critical!

You need players on rookie contracts because they are not on market rates eg. Selwood in 2007. Clubs like GWS will have to trade out guns prior to FA for rookie draftees to maintain the value of their list as long as possible via the guise of regulated rookie contracts as they are not at market value reducing their nominal list value under their cap.

So we need to keep guys like Dusty in that generation to attract GWS guns and others that have to be offloaded! Young leadership in our youngsters will be important to!

I think I see were you may be going with Wright. I had a similar response to the Gun where quality ruck types develop quicker. However, all this depends on where RFC sees where the best window is to get a premiership. If GWS does win in 2016 or just misses we probably need to look a little further out when they need to trade some of their stars out.

Interesting comment re: Dusty the most important signing. I can see the justification for it - though I would say that Rance and Cotchin are equally important re-signings for our current prospects.

Flowing on from your argument, if Ellis can continue to improve and take the next step up, I can see him fitting in with that same bracket as Dusty as an elite youth of the competition, enough that may draft some players circa their age group over to us.

Just reading what Emma Quale has tweeted re Cockatoo I am not so certain that this is the actual case. She seems to have quite tight links to Tigerland (and is generally correct) and I can see it being Duggan, Weller, Cockatoo and then Ellis.

On Ellis, his video is up on the AFL.com.au site today. Having watched that, he compares his game to Heppell. Which I can actually see a bit of. Not the most quickest guy on the park, but his ability to hit targets in traffic is a big plus. Looks like he has a frame that could stack on some muscle quickly (something that I am not certain Weller nor Duggan have) and be a legit inside midfielder.

I know the reservation about picking him ahead of more prominent types (say Cockatoo, Blakely etc) but if we select him (assuming Weller and Duggan are gone) I wouldn't be all to displeased. A year in the gym, and get his tank up to a point he can will himself from contest to contest I could see him being Heppell like. I still would prefer Weller, Duggan, Cockatoo if one of them fell.

Though, knowing he has a stress fracture is a concern.

I like Cockatoo but he is being massively overrated. Sounds like his decision making is questionable.

Ellis wouldn't be a bad pick up...might turn into Luke Parker.

There's always one kid rated higher than he should because he's indigenous.

I always look at best and worst player comparisons. For me it would be:

Cockatoo Worst Case: Gary Rohan
Cockatoo Best Case: Patrick Dangerfield

Ellis Worst Case: Mav Weller
Ellis Best Case: Dyson Heppell

AGAIN I should clarify, this is simply from watching all the highlight videos on the Internet available. Anyone who is a more astute watcher please do not hesitate to correct either or.

My first choice would be Wller. IMO looks a class above Cockatoo, Duggan, Ellis ect.

His quick with great foot skills and having a look at his brother he won't have any issues putting on some size.

You'd be surprised, I actually think that the ability to add size may be one of the knocks on Weller.

Case in point me and my brother. My brother goes to the gym some, and works out hard. But he really doesn't have to much muscle. I go to the gym - and without putting to finer point on it - am an absolute beast :p

I have started liking this draft to high school. You know, when you see the hottest girl at school (Weller) and you just simply want a piece of that. This happens all through high school until you get to 16. Then you discover pornography (Duggan) and whilst you still want a piece of the hottest girl in school (Weller) you know there are certainly some pretty darn good alternative (pr0n/ Duggan).

Please don't say you like cockatoo.

I don't think Weller would need to put on much more than 5-6 kgs. He is 78kg at the moment. Getting him to about 84 kg for an outside mid would be about right.
