What on earth are you on about? North vs Dons 2nd week of round 1 they say. Usually with these predictions, they are right. And Cats wont be playing 2 home games at simmonds stadium to open the season. Don't be silly.
Sorry, I should have put "Hitthepost's idea for what to do with Round 1 and 2 season 2014" on the top

Article says "likely to fall against" and "rumoured".

I hope it isn't true, there is absolutely no good reason why we (or the Swans) should ever play a Victorian team in Tassie. There's an AFL agreement stating we get six games in Melbourne every year and the AFL should honour their agreement. Any away game we have against a Victorian team should only be in Victoria or Queensland on the condition that we get the contracted six games in Melbourne. There is no logical reason why we should ever get sent to Tassie or Darwin until they get their own team.

I know the Hawthorn Tasmania agreement is four home games, two against Victorian teams and two against non-Victorian teams. They should actually honour that contract properly and send two actual Victorian teams there, not send us there as a Victorian team due to our Roys heritage. Our Roys heritage is the reason why we should NEVER get sent there until Tassie get their own team. Their two games against Vic opposition should be against either St Kilda, Melbourne (who haven't been sent down to Tassie in the AFL era), North or Footscray. Their home games against the non-Vic teams should either be against West Coast, Fremantle, Adelaide, Port, GWS or Gold Coast. No ifs or buts.

We haven't played a home game against the Hawks since 2008. We should only ever play Hawthorn at the 'Gabba or the MCG.

Also I think the AFL will group the "sixes" on home and away ladder position so Collingwood and Richmond will be in the first six, while Essendon and Carlton will be in the second six, so they can all play each other twice. I highly doubt the AFL will stop playing Carlton V Richmond matches twice just as it starts to look like a good match-up after years of being shit.

What's the problem though? You have 11 games at Gabba + 1 in Metricon, leaving 10 games interstate. Whether that's 6 in Victoria, 4 in NSW/WA/SA or 6 in Victoria, 1 in Tassie, 3 in NSW/WA/SA, does it really matter?

Plus, 11 at Gabba, 1 at Metricon, 6 in Vic leaves room for a game in Tassie before you run out of games in a season :p

Yeah, how come? Could be the only time that people actually want to go to a Melbourne game!

In a confusing update, the Herald Sun says Collingwood are part of the middle group of 6, then claims that we are going to play 3 top 6 teams (Hawthorn, Geelong & Carlton) twice, which should be impossible under the new rules.

Isn't there an exemption for blockbuster/marquee fixtures in which instance Carlton v Collingwood would apply?

Not anywhere that I've seen. The way that they built the system means it is possible for any single marquee fixture to occur.

Allowing all of the 'Big 4' match ups to occur is only slightly more difficult. In fact it's only in this exact situation where Carlton are on their own in one section of the ladder and the other three are all in one other section that it even becomes impossible for them all to play each other twice.

There is no need or reason for the AFL to be breaking their new rules to accommodate this fixture.

To clarify: I couldn't care less if we end up playing 3 top 6 sides rather than the maximum of 2 that we are supposed to have, but it would be very annoying for new rules to be introduced only to be immediately ignored.

Agree, what is the point in creating this 'conference' system to the ignore it before it has even started. HS must have this one wrong for a change

The Herald-Sun website confirms Melbourne v Port Adelaide in Alice Springs in round 11 - which is Indigenous Round.
Carlton play Port Adelaide in round 1 on Sunday 16th March at Docklands, on Grand Prix day. Round 2 is the first game at Adelaide Oval, with Port hosting the Crows on Saturday 29th March.

Yeah there is something wrong with that. Since Carlton is confirmed, I think you'll be playing one of Hawthorn and Geelong twice. If you do play all three twice, then the AFL might as well scrap the whole thing. So money hungry
