Thread deserves a bump. His game has taken a massive leap in just his third year. His clean hands and decision making have stood out above all else and the kid could be anything. Ive said it a lot but he reminds me a lot of JPK and i can see him developing to those levels by the time our next true flag tilt comes around.

Congratulations on playing 50 games today Connor:thumbsu:. It's been a couple of tough years so lets show him a bit of love!

Blakely, who will today play his 50th AFL game when Fremantle battle Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium, admitted to dark thoughts when he almost tore his hamstring off the bone in the pre-season. It came after he had missed the second half of last season following knee surgery.

'Dark thoughts' = he thought he could be delisted lol. Kind of an offensive phrase considering it usually infers, you know, suicide.

You pick the strangest things to find some kind of offense to, even for today's standards

Think it’s time to bump, for precarious reasons.
Lachie Neale leaves Freo for Brisbane and you’d think Blakely would’ve had this spot all his. Fast forward 12 months later, he barely makes it on the field and when he does, it’s across half back where he looks slow and unaccustomed.
Now it’s 2020 and already round 4, Serong is picked for his debut. A similar player to Neale, and a role in which Blakely arguably is fighting for.
What has happened for Connor? He can’t break in this team that is 0-3, rebuilding and a perfect age for Connor to stamp himself as an inside bull. Only 24, however am seeing Cerra, Brayshaw and now Serong used ahead of him for development. Interesting times for him.

He was the emergency against Brisbane, the player kept over for a late change, and had to make up his running after the game, so he didn't get the match sim against any opposition. That's probably counted against him and in the favor of Serong this week.

Honestly have no idea how this lad hasn't gotten the call up. You're after a big bodied midfielder who attacks the footy. 2017 showcased his midfield ability. He also has AFL level experience. Nothing against Serong but I really thought this was Blakelys week.

It seems to me Connor has not worked hard enough on his game to improve his skills etc. Maybe he is more keen to work on his surfing. Time to get serious Connor

Emergencies normally get the call up the next week.
Blakely is going to get his opportunity soon enough, no need to stress.
I’m sure he will, but just in the queue scheme of things. Haven’t heaEd much about Connor these days. Serong, Young and Valente get the coverage. Blakely is only 24. We need him alongside Tucker and Fyfe in the middle.

I reckon he will too, but i do question the selection for this w/end.
Our mids have been smashed at times, with Brayshaw, Tucker and to a lesser extent Cerra being underwhelming so far.
I would've replaced Brayshaw with Blakely

We shouldn't be discussing why Connor isn't in the side. We should be discussing why this talented player hasn't reached his potential and why he isn't in the midfield using his big bulk to help Fyfe. If he is another bust it will be a damning indictment on the club.
Evidence so far would be self discipline issues, sneaking off to go surfing when he said he was unwell.

Young guys mature at different rates, he might have grown and grown out of that.

Remember the Lols we all had with Tom Lamb over Blakely. Those were the days.

The days when Blakely was our second most promising youngster. Feels like a lifetime ago. Fast forward a few years and now Connor can't even make the team despite being in his athletic prime and having (in theory) the exact skill set our team is lacking. I hope Taylor is right and his main issue is late maturity rather than the coaches all thinking he's a spud.

Amongst all of the talk on this site recently (some good, some bad) about how the club is tracking and why haven't we won flags, why do we get injuries, why does Colyer still get a game, why is Margetts still stealing oxygen, the one thing that frustrates me the most is our inability to develop young players.

To me, the one thing that separates good sides from bad, is the ability to draft a young player, like all clubs have to, and turn him into something at least decent, maybe elite. If you can't do that, the game is over before it begins.

We could all point to Fyfe, Walters, Pav, Sandi, Mundy, and Johnson as successes but it starts to thin out rapidly after that.

If I had control of the purse strings, a big chunk of your generously donated membership money would be sunk into funding the best development program in the country. Drafting good players is relatively simple, developing good players to become elite and average draftees to become good is where it's at.

Yeah funny I remember a guy doing that. If your skinnies are high you go to swan districts.

From the media today J. Lo said that he was really impressed with Caleb's work ethic and how hard he had worked to get his debut game. When I heard this I took it as a message to CB that "this is the required standard". Hopefully CB does a Michael Walters in his response.
